@@snarkycommenthere9027 To clarify my point, in most setting where goblins are being "raided" its not fair to compare them to humans. While humans range from altruistic to psycopathic goblins are almost all at the psychopathy point. To put it another way "if the goblins stopped raiding and put down their weapons there would be peace, if humanity did the same they would be destroyed." Of course you could change this in an individual setting, but basically any official setting that exists matches my description. Further, even if it was fully mutual warfare and not a case where one side is clearly more malicious you would still have an ethical gap between adventurers and outlaws since the bank isn't going to hunt someone who didn't rob them, but the goblins will keep attacking humans till destroyed (warfare not outlaw crime). The only way for it to even be equal is if goblins were peaceful to humans and you raided them anyway. Then and only then would it be as bad or worse.

The group lineup was a Pinkerton agent hired to investigate name Luigi Luigi Luigi; a civil war vet who had a Gatling gun, confederate cavalry sword, and donkey to pull the gun, we have no clue which side he fought for; a traveling scam artist by the name of Joesphi Krackowski that I’m convinced his wagon was some kind of Anomalous entity with the amount weird stuff that was just kinda “sitting in it”; and a med student from Miskatonic University who ran west due to them figuring out he had not paid them a dime right before he received his medical license.

Player: "It's also a pretty realistic game, so keep that in mind." Other player: "Yeah, that doesn't sound too bad." GM: "Alright, so last we left off, we're on the run from the Pinkertons." Other player: "Like, the American government?" GM: "That's what I said, ain't it?" Actually, the Pinkertons are and have always been a private company, frequently contracting with the U.S. government--but sometimes also acting as an effective enemy of said government when that gov't.'s actions/goals are at odds with the Pinkertons' largely rather wealthy clients which often have taken the form of huge corporations--but never an actual part of it. So, at least in terms of historical accuracy, the campaign in this sketch isn't quite as realistic as it's presented to be. Obviously still a clever, well written, and well acted sketch nonetheless :-)

My experience with Pinkerton was Bioshock Infinite, and then US History in 11th grade. That was a fun experience for me. And then I got to use Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 for government. Because I've never been out east and have no real world connection to these things or places.

President Lincoln's personal security was the Pinkertons.
@erichanson33693 жыл бұрын
@@Synthetic-Rabbit Ah, really? I never knew that, but, considering the Pinkertons' historical clientele--naturally, those who can pay the most and/or provide other valuable benefits to the Pinkerton company, which the country's president is clearly well positioned to do--I'm not really terribly surprised to learn that, either. The thing I'm most surprised about, actually, is that the summarized history of Allan Pinkerton, his organization, and his and its legacy didn't mention Abraham Lincoln even once. Hm, well, I guess even very knowledgeable sources can't be expected to be aware of every little detail..
@erichanson33693 жыл бұрын
@@silverwyhrecat5 Hmm, my own high school education barely mentioned Allan Pinkerton or the company he founded... I'm glad to know that you, at least, were made aware of that rather fascinating aspect of U.S. history, and I of course hope your instructor included how the Pinkertons (and other organizations like them) have impacted various events and phenomena that have shaped the U.S. in multiple ways from their founding near the turn of the 20th century up to today. I myself was initially made aware of the Pinkertons' existence from some Western-themed movie many years ago that I now otherwise hardly recall, but a more detailed history of the Pinkerton National Detective Agency was provided to me through a podcast called "Inward Empire", which I highly recommend as a hidden and super-underappreciated podcast, every episode (as few as there unfortunately are) being extremely well researched AND super interesting to listen to.
@Synthetic-Rabbit3 жыл бұрын
@@erichanson3369 I first heard it in Ken Burn's Civil War documentary. This makes me love my western D&D Dungeons&Desperados. Druids are Natives (you get a spirit animal you can summon with an instrument made from some bone related to the animal) artificers are carpetbaggers (you use oil to power mechanical spells instead of having spell slots) Monks are foreigners (made up some homebrew abilities) Barbarians are Wranglers (you also get benefits with animals and riding horses) And I made up a custom class called sharpshooters. Party is a Minotaur native, a skinwalker carpetbagger (changlings), and a tabaxi Minotaur. They are currently preparing the defenses in a town for a blood moon that allows the skeletal demon Diabolos to unleash his army upon it.
