My first memory of Florida was walking out of MIA at about six in the morning (the sun wasn't up yet) and my glasses fogging over completely the moment I was out the door. I moved to Central Florida in 1974, the kids at school said it would take about a year for my blood to thin down enough to tolerate the heat and humidity. It was closer to two years. Moved to Miami in '79, it took two years to get used to that extreme heat and humidity. Moved back to VA in '82, first blizzard they'd have since I left, I thought I was going to freeze to death. Back to Central FLA at the end of '83, I've been here since. I can drive on sand, I can't drive on ice. And thank God for air-conditioning. All in all, it's a nice place to visit, but I don't recommend trying to live here.
