Blown away here! I was just trying to find nice jazzy phrasing for this song to accompany my daughter's beautiful voice on open mic nite, and I think I landed the proverbial mother lode! ( I would love to hear your takes on Scott Joplin) All I can say is "Daaayyyum! It would take me a year or two to play this note-for-note even 1/10 as well as you play it. But I think that I can fake the rhythm comps, and that's all I really need to pull this off. Thanks, so much, Jake!

Great stuff Jake ... Your guitar style has become my role model. Watching you at your craft really impresses me with your range and facility, but seeing how many hundred hours it's going to take THIS amateur to even approximate ONE of your simpler covers, I have a question for you ... about how long does it take you after choosing a song (such as this one) to affix your style to it and perform it well enough to record a video?

Thanks so much! :-) At this stage in my playing, arranging for the guitar has become very conversational to me, so the basic arrangement itself is done on the spot. A typical example is being requested a song on a gig, such as this one as a matter of fact. Then, I'll play through it a few times, maybe during a week's worth of gigs, since I don't practice solo guitar at home, unfortunately. (I practice jazz improv, scales, etc.). Then I post and hope for the best. This is the most common scenario. Other times I might post a tune I've played for years and other times yet I'll post something completely new on the spot. This happens usually when a song I was trying to post is not working out too well and I give up... ;-).
