"Simple" changing the lighting of one frame is easy. But changing it for an entire scene is extremely hard. Especially with moving backround.

stylistic choice i think, it's taking mostly from the super super early spiderman comic artstyles where the shading was literally from the black lineart only. this looks good but idk it loses its individuality and could be tweaked to represent that authentic comic style more

@@rhinuu045 in order for that to work they need to use the Ben Day Dots to give it that comic texture or it just falls flat Black Cel shading for shadows works WAAAAY better on 2D animation if you dont plan on having lighting. Just look at Rise of the TMNT for example But if your doing a CGI show...whats the point of it being CGI if we CAN'T SEE those dimensions? You might as well have just did 2D and not gone through the stress of rigging

I’m glad you didn’t claim to “fix” it, while I truly love this rework, I think the studio was aiming for the 1960s Spider-Man aesthetic with their stylistic design which I prefer.

Only reason why 60-s marvel tv shows had this piece of "style" - because of low budget and reputation. Ten years ago from present days we known what good animation and composition is. 16 years ago we known what good Spider-man tv show means. This is not style, is little money makes much money by your attention and fake nostalgic feelings.

Tho I know and I get what they were aiming for, with the old comic book style, I just find what you did kinda awesome. New fresh and modern lightings and shadings to clash with the vintage look of the 60s just makes it perfect : it makes it feel nostalgic while still having this new and fresh style to it. 10/10

The people in the replies haven't actually paid attention to comic books or how they were made back then. They had limited shading sure, but they had other ways of demonstrating depth. Like using halftones of the paper to their advantage, or using black shading on the muscles to add visual noise, or using some color gradients here and there, or even something as simple as hatching This show is just lazy

DUDE !!! This is amazing !!! You are truly underrated. I don't know why but with the exception of "X-Men '97", a lot of Marvel's animated look very bad. I am glad that you don't claim to "fix it" (I hate that term) but you are actually showing us how simple lighting techniques can something look much more professional. Great work !!! I would say that it is easier to edit a frame than the entire sequence, but all the work with light and shadow, giving emphasis and depth to the environments, hammered sense into my head Amazing work

I remember Browntable doing something similar for the 2017 series. He ended up finding that the show was actually very well animated but lacked some post production and compositing which made it looked unfinished. Watching this as someone kinda excited for the new series made me think we're probably gonna have a repeat of the same. Though I do think the show looks fine and trying to go for that comic book feel.

While I think this strays away from the vintage comic aesthetic of the show a bit too much, I can’t deny it’s more pleasing to look at. At the very least I wish the original tried to do a little more with its colors, maybe add some half-tones. This looks nice! Great work.

One of the biggest problems with the visual aspect of all mcu related projects is the shadowing, good shadowing will cover up imperfect cgi and make the movie look more “real”

things are the way they are for a reason; they wanted to make it look like the classic comic book style and in a lot of places if you pause, it would actually look like that in an actual comic book. They could definitely make the lighting incredible if they really wanted to, i'm not hating i'm just saying that the efforts the original animators made can't be lost, like tears in rain.
