I miss the 90's. Very few movies were specifically designed to appeal to EVERYONE. They appealed to a lot of people but if you were one of the few who didn't like something then oh fucking well. Just don't watch it. Move on. We got better entertainment that way, cuz the writing and story telling was more focused, also because the filmmakers were working on projects they enjoyed, as opposed to movie-by-committee garbage designed for maximum profit. Disney is the worst offender today. They are so focused on capturing the largest audience possible they forget to be entertaining. Thats why why the minions and Universal Studios are killing them.

Funny enough, those boxes represent them quite accurately. Dwayne has the biggest box because he's the main protagonist, Gal has the second biggest box because she's the leading lady-but not as big as Dwayne's because her character is meant to show the viewers that the hero always gets the girl. While for Jack and Kevin's characters, they have the small boxes because they're just comedic relief.

The weird accident I always admired ironically about Gadot’s “Wonder Woman (2017)” was because of her lack of emotional range, she actually played the “fish out of water” role amicably throughout learning the horrors of WWI and her naïveté felt genuine, but I know that’s because of a lack of talent rather than directional intent from Gal’s perspective.

I'm about to state an unpopular opinion but I'm doing it anyway LOL. Keanu Reeves is a terrible actor, always was. At his current stage, he looks like a normal guy his age. And at this point, Bautista is not a typecast and along with John cena, he's the best modern wrestler/actor and he likely has a better agent than the rock to be getting roles in great movies like Dune part 2, guardians trilogy, blade runner etc. The rock is the rock. And he doesn't have the eye for picking up good movies to act in. Hell, Cena outacts him in the fast and furious movies lol The rock is getting his big break when he gets his safdie directed movie. Most Hollywood Studios and casting directors really have no standards. It’s like.” oh she’s attractive and she had one good movie?” “ then let’s hire her for this role.” no standards.
@michaelegan352217 күн бұрын
It's just name recognition, dude. If the actor is recognizable by the general public then the studio knows that casting that actor will be enough to sell tickets to a certain amount of people. Most of these movies are for people that will just go see the latest Rock/Kevin Hart/Jack Black movie just because they know and like that actor. The audience's standards are what sets the bar; the studios will just keep making slop as long as slop continues to sell tickets.

2:38 It's funny calling out the Stoic Beauty stereotype, because apparently Chinese actresses are slaves to it. Their ideal is the Cold Beauty, and comedy is the death of that image. Apparently, Gong Li turned down a role in a Stephen Chow movie (maker of Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer), because it would ruin her cool beauty image, so an older actress got the role, allowed to stretch her acting chops, and revitalized her career. This stoic ideal for acting, that comedy is somehow the death of actual acting ability, seems to infest the mindset of Awards Season.

Stop with the concentration camp/genocide nonsense. No evidence china is doing a genocide. It's not exactly moral to coerce cultural change on people but it's basically just the industrial revolution but delayed and sped up and without the deaths from starvation. The area is a total backwater they're trying to modernize it and get rid of the appearance of it being Muslim. Not great but way better than what we are currently doing

Will Farell- the consummate man-child whose comedy style of being arrested in development peaked at Stepbrothers. Bruce Willis- the straight to DVD king himself whose aggressive mediocrity was so legendary Comedy Central deemed it worthy of a roast. Liam Neeson- your stepfather’s favorite old man with a particular set of skills. He was never quite able to capture that same lightning in the bottle after the first Taken, but bless his heart that never stopped him from trying again and again and again and again…

The one movie I saw how great Jack Black can be in the right role is King Kong as Carl Denham. His face and the role make a perfect match for what you need. On the other hand, Fast and furious is the exact embodiment of the apocalypse, except you replace Jack Black with Ryan Reynolds and his eternal irony-filled acting face. He may be Deadpool but speaking of horsemen, he would be the Apocalypse mutant of the group.

@yonahsefchovich593111 күн бұрын
I was literally talking about this issue with my brothers yesterday. The amount of type cast actors and if we’re being realistic here, celebrities who read scripts is absurd. I just watched Nosferatu and that movie is one of the best things I’ve seen in so long since it has actual acting in it, the characters were all the characters to me and not a celebrity wearing clothes of a different time. (The only one who might have come short here was Willem Dafoe, but he still did well). The people above are 4 great examples, but people like Jason Bateman, Timothee Chalamet, Jason Sudeikis, Denzel Washington, Samuel L Jackson, James Spader, Ryan Renalds and so many others (I’m going to include Cilian Murphy in this too). Every time I see a movie with them they’re playing the same exact character and it always throws me out of the immersion of the movie. In Gladiator 2 I didn’t see the main villain as Macrinus, I only saw Denzel Washingtonius. The man was playing himself but with Roman Garb on. That’s not acting, that’s just reading the script. I’m sure that at least some of the people on that list can act, but by god, 9/10 times they just play themselves. It’s a horrible phenomena in film today. A sort of circular logic where Studios need to stuff in a famous/notable personality/celeb to make hedge their bet the movie will make money since the budget is so big. The budget is so big because they spent 40% of their budget hiring a ridiculously expensive celeb/actor. Now they need that celeb to be a famous and unchanging character in order to hedge their bet. They need to hedge their bet…. So on and so forth.

As few people below pointed out, Jack Black is an anomaly of these 4 horsemen. In recent times his work makes you feel like he deserves to be part of the horsemen, however if you look at his whole career, he's much better than this. School of Rock, King Kong, Kung Fu Panda..nah man I don't see Kevin Hart doing a comedy like School of Rock or The Rock puling of a Carl Dengam. I can bet on anything that neither Kevin Hart, nor Dwayne, nor Gal Gadot would ever be able to play sincerely comedic and ironical parts as Jack Black has done in the past. Well, I'll be dead honest with y'all, as a kid I liked The Rock the first couple times i saw him, but since then he's become too monotonous. I really liked Kevin Hart in Jumanji 2 but that's about his range. And i never really liked Gal Gadot ever.
