Great review. Sekiro is definitely small. Once you understand how everything works, specially the prosthetic arm weapons, you can beat this game in like four hours fairly easy.

I just watched a video of a guy who finished the entire game in under 2 hours and then refunded it immediately after, so.. Point taken lol

I've heard the streamer LobosJr describe The Old Hunters DLC as "the single greatest piece of multimedia entertainment ever designed". I agree, though his review was likely heavily informed by his experience playing through every Souls' game since 1 (Maybe DeS. Not sure) up to then, which is the same for me. Because of this, I'm gonna cast my vote for the Dark Souls series. They are worthwhile experiences to this day and are definitive examples of the core of From Software's design. They're also easy as balls compared to Sekiro and ER. Going through them next would give a greater appreciation for the anthology, along with the few subtle cases of fan service in BB, DS3, and ER. My best advice if they're chosen would be to take it sloooow. Although i have a place in my heart for all iterations of Dark Souls 2, it's reputation as a black sheep of the series is well earned and many burn out playing it or avoid it altogether. For that game in particular, i think i would recommend the original DS2 and not Scholar of the First Sin, if it's available. Scholar added some mandatory dialogue which provided context for the main story, but many things are changed between the two like items, enemies, npcs', key placements, and enemy placements, which can range from reasonable to frustrating. Either way, both versions seem to fulfill the intended experience and i wish you well with whatever you choose. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences with them all in the future.

Thanks for the detailed comment & explanation :) Nice plot twist, going from the Bloodborne DLC quite possibly being the " the single greatest piece of multimedia entertainment ever designed " to " hey, play Dark Souls " but I'll take it. Taking it slow is a good one. I truly try that when playing these games, but I often get a bit too excited whenever I finally figure out where to go, that I tend to beeline towards it. I had indeed, even when avoiding the entire series, often heard that Dark Souls 2 was a bit controversial, or at least not as loved as the other two entries. I still don't exactly know why though, so I'm keen on finding it out soon. It's still a long ways off anyways, because no matter what game I end up choosing, I won't start with Dark Souls 2 no matter what haha

Your comment, being the first one, made me realize I really should've turned this into a poll instead of a random collection of comments. With that being said, I'm totally keeping it as it is hahaha And damn, 700 in Elden Ring is nuts, someone is prepared for the DLC

Did you beat Demon of Hatred? It was the hardest boss for me by far which is why I'm curious! Isshin was difficult but I felt like I learned the fight at least every time I died. With Demon of Hatred I just kept dying and felt like I wasn't learning anything... I think Demon of Hatred gave me the most issues out of any Souls boss I've fought and I've beaten every game in the series except for Elden Ring. ( It was just too big lol )

Completely missed him 💀 I might end up going back to it today before heading to work. I did see ways to entirely skip him by letting him fall of the map though, does that count as beating him?

As a Souls veteran, it feels weird to me the way our community (part of it) has put Sekiro and Bloodborne on a pedestal. I love both, but they have problems like every other game in the franchise. I agree with you, Sekiro definetely feels small. It's the game that really needed a dlc and never got one, unfortunately. The areas are really beautiful, but there are only a handful, and it doesn't help that the game has the same problem of repetition of bosses as Elden Ring but instead of having like 70 different types of bosses it has, like...25? My personal problem with the story is that it deviates from the usual formula of not having any fucking idea of what's happening the first time you play. I like the mistery that brings to the games, and Sekiro commits the cardinal sin of having obligatory dialogues, which is a big no-no to me. That being said, it's the only game in the franchise (well, not counting Dark Souls 2) with a script not written by Miyazaki and I like that, From has to learn to step outside of that man's shadow eventually. Anyway, Bloodborne's DLC is brilliant. Best part of the game, you should experience it. Good video!

Maybe I'm overthinking it, but it could be the classic "it's different from what we're used to, so it's automatically better" syndrome that the community is experiencing. I can imagine DS 1, 2 and 3 being very similar to one another, so the moment they released something slightly onorthodox ( bloodborne, sekiro ) people immediately fell in love with it. As for the "not having any fucking idea of what's happening", that's an excellent point, and I have no clue how that thought hasn't crossed my mind once while making the video and playing the game. I even mentioned it in my Elden Ring video; that no one plays a From Software games and thinks " ah yes this makes sense! ", it's always " sorry but wtf is going on? " and I think it adds to the feeling of helplessness and despair you experience during your first hours or even days of playing. Everything is scary and you constantly feel hunted, and I didn't really have that in Sekiro. In any case, thanks for your insight ( pun sort of intended ) and "vote" for Bloodborne + DLC as it is winning at the moment :P

@@REALVINERGY Yeah, and another thing the vague lore does for these games is bringing together the entire community. I've been in touch with the discourse surrounding Elden Ring's lore since it came out, and that shit is so cool, like we're all archaeologists theorizing about an ancient culture. The fact the community just recently, one year after the release of the game, has gathered enough info to make a coherent timeline of pasts events in the game, IS CRAZY.

As much as I liked Dark Souls games & Elden Ring, Bloodborne & Sekiro somehow seemed like a tailor made experience for the player, if that makes sense? Every single fight, every set piece somehow mattered and Sekiro still has some of the most innovative combat I've ever seen. Sekiro & Bloodborne are in my top 5 games of all time and I'm a guy who's very hard to impress. Also a lot of the reasons you disliked the game are exactly why I liked them lmao. Goes to show how willing Fromsoftware are in trying different things and pissing people off in the process.

It's funny that you mention it, as whilst I was writing the script I could totally imagine someone reading it and being like " but that's exactly WHY it's so much fun! " Nontheless, even though I didn't like Sekiro as much, it's still a great game, maybe I'll look back at it with more appreciation after finishing every other souls game
