If you could start your plant collection over again, what would you do differently? Would you focus on fewer, bigger statement plants, or maybe choose varieties that need less maintenance? I’d love to hear your thoughts 🪴🌱

Nothing, I love the process of how my collection developed! 😅 If for whatever reason all of the plants got destroyed beyond saving... I have no idea. Try getting cuttings from people that have received my propagates in the past? I need my plants to have memories attached to them, buying new ones to replace the ones lost wouldn't feel the same.

I never thought of this and this is actually a good thought provoking question for me. I will have to hash this out with myself and do a video 💚🪴

@@poeticplants get a few statement pieces or grow some species as the focal points. Then I’d have small curated collections around my home in different rooms. To tie them all together, various types of pothos. Highlight pieces are small but flashy and def Hoyas, dieffenbachia and cast iron are included, non negotiable

I tried fancy plants but once I discovered the common types, I’ve been loving my plants WAY more. The look and feel of my place has changed dramatically and I’m left extremely happy in my limited space and can’t wait for my sat plant chore day! I guess find the plants that you’re willing to put the time into, which ones you’re capable of growing so they thrive, you’ll have way more fun and love your hobby even more. Don’t go crazy with one genus. Hoya heads, looking at you :p I save my high end potting mixes for my ultimate fav plants that I want to grow to their potential. I started by rehabilitating plants from the clearance racks as well as from cuttings and learned soo much about my plants. It was also so much cheaper and the plants acclimatized to my home way better than if I got a full plant. It will take time to get those instagram photo ready pics but update pics are just as satisfying and you can see how far your plants have grown! Before you get experience rare plants, RESEARCH them!!!

This is good advice! I have a l o t of small cuttings and young plants that I won’t have room for later, and I want to enjoy my plants as art rather than having a hundred of them mashed together

This is good advice. Rather have a few unique plants than 100 common plants

Cuz whats wrong with common plants? Why is a common plant worse than a unique one. The point is do you like it or not. It is not a good advice to go for plant shopping amd have a mindset like ,,oh i like this plant, but its just a common plant so i dont buy it,,

I’d rather have 100 common plants as long as they’re easy going.

Hi 👋 this is my first viewing. Liked and subscribed. 🙂 I can relate to the appearance of different colored plant pots. I try to use only white or sometimes black.

You are so spot on! However… many of these things we only find out in time. First comes collecting/enthusiasm… (getting everything interesting) Then overwhelm Some stay there… or quit the plant hobby And some start curating (sometimes with relapses into enthusiasm 😂) I think the real appreciation/enjoyment starts after the curating.. the collecting part can be stressful and overwhelming. Less is can most definitely be more… but when it comes to houseplants we usually get told/indoctrinated “the more the better” “got to collect them all”. If I look back I would advise myself something similar to your video… curate from the start…. But would I have listened to it in my episode of enthusiasm? Probably not 😅 Advice I would have taken from myself: start with good quality and comfortable-to-look-at-light-colour grow lights straight away, use beneficial bugs from the start and buy almost all pots in the same colour. Pots in the same colour look very calm indeed! I think it looks nicest if a few have different patterns/textures… or maybe one or 2 in the same contrasting colour. The title also reminds me of a question that helps me declutter sometimes “if I didn’t have this (plant) now, would I get it?”. Because sometimes it is easy to keep things just because we already have them.

Lol, the intro! All great advice. 💚 Only thing I would add, If I could start my plant collection over again, I wouldn't be so hard on myself. Instagram plants are not real plants, and our homes are not greenhouses, to offer them ideal growing conditions.

Very good advice. I do only buy white pots because of the cohesive look.

Weed out the space-grabbers that you don't enjoy that much anyways, is that the other conclusion? I was just about to toss some basil or whatever. My shelves aren't that spacious and I have to bring all my favorites in from the balcony over winter.

Here, see, I totally agree! I’ve just come out of winter, so I really understand what you mean-prioritize your favorites, and the rest must find somewhere else to go lol! 😅

I would advise not watching too many plant tubers as some of their advice has been eye opening to veteran plant people like me...

Something you forgot is that you got to the level of rare plants thru common plants. If you would start over, take that you also dont have the knowledge so yeah, you technically bought a rare expensive plant and will kill it an a month or less. Its okay to fantasy about what would you do but then dont present it as advice for beginners

I so disagree with picking up random pots, I don't want any boring white pots, it is maximalism all the way.
@poeticplants

Totally get where you’re coming from. Maximalism can bring so much personality and creativity to a space. For me, I’ve found that having a more cohesive look with similar pots really helped me feel a bit more grounded in my collection, but I think there’s beauty in both approaches.🙌 🌱🌿
