If I have glaucoma, is it safe for me to use levodopa (Sinemet, Rytari)?

In this video, I will discuss the contraindications or relative contraindications of levodopa in patients with glaucoma within the context of Parkinson's disease. We will cover the most common type of glaucoma and clarify the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist.
Please make a note of the following essential points:
Levodopa should not be used in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma before they undergo cataract surgery or laser iridotomy. Narrow-angle glaucoma is a condition in which the drainage angle of the eye becomes blocked, leading to increased eye pressure. In these cases, levodopa is absolutely contraindicated.
However, using levodopa is not a problem for patients with open-angle glaucoma, which is the most common type of glaucoma ( ~ 90%).
It is important to emphasize the significance of getting an eye exam at least once a year by an ophthalmologist.
