I sat for my CPC Exam on the 16th and passed!! 🎉 Thank you for your tips. I want to share what I took away from the exam and the CPC self paced prep course I purchased through AAPC.. My biggest piece of advice is get to know your ICD10 and CPT books like the back of your hand. Almost everything you could need to know is in those books, including anatomy illustrations that can help you answer a lot of the questions. The biggest thing is to read and highlight and tab your chapter guidelines!!! This saved me, especially regarding questions about Diabetes and HIV. Good luck to everyone testing in 2024.

Congratulations on passing your CPC Exam! 🎉 That's a fantastic achievement. Thank you for sharing your valuable insights and tips with others. Knowing your ICD-10 and CPT books intimately is indeed great advice, and it's wonderful to hear how well it worked for you, particularly with the detailed guidelines and illustrations. Your advice about tabbing and highlighting is spot-on and will surely help many future test-takers. Best of luck in your coding career, and keep sharing your experiences and wisdom!

Total cost for the course was about $975 (not including books, im sure those are gonna be expensive tho) and its totally online. Hi, I am preparing to take the CCS exam. I am doing self study (well I bought some materials and some guides from primacode camp but technically still self-study). The materials are helpful but the self-paced recording is annoying to listen. So I just self go through the materials. It has been 9 years since I graduated from my bachelors in nursing. I remembered how challenging it was to study. How to study? I have to force myself to read. Looking up codes is fun; but reading guidelines is not. It’s not like I will remember the guidelines not until I have to use it and practice. The Forest App has been helpful but men, just the discipline to keep my eyes open is so hard. I really want to do this though. I want to transition out of nursing. Maybe be an RN CDI someday.

There is no such designation as "affiliated." There are programs that use the AAPC curriculum, but no consideration of affiliation, accredited, etc, when it comes to the AAPC. Personally I would go with Preppy as it offers more and will count towards the 80 contact hours to remove 1 year of apprenticeship designation for the CPC certification through the AAPC.

I'm considering a change in career as a RN with a BSN with 19 years of hospital work, I'm tired of the bedside nursing, more likely burned out! I don't want to quit my day job yet but I'm over 50 and I'm attracted with the remote positions! I've tried to find remote positions as an RN before but since I've never had any manager or IT experience, very difficult to find! What would you recommend for someone like me?
@ContempoCoding2 ай бұрын
Transitioning into medical coding or auditing could be a great fit for you, especially with your clinical background as an RN. You can start by obtaining a coding certification like the CPC, and many positions offer flexible, remote work options. Since you’re not ready to quit your day job, you can pursue training part-time to ease into the transition.

I took the AAPC self paced course, took the exam and failed. So lost. I have 11 years already in the medical field and dont know where i went wrong. I feel like AAPC doesnt give you enough support. I spent thousands on their program with nothing to show 😢
@CatsQuest7 ай бұрын
Exact same thing happened to me and no follow up support from AAPC. I'm still paying off the loan I took out for the AAPC program. My only recourse is to take the exam again but the fail really messed with my confidence! Only a few of my classmates passed...

@@CatsQuest same. Smh. AAPC is a scam it seems. Overpriced, under-supported BS. I have one more attempt and dont know what the hell im doing apparently lol i also had to take a loan out to pay for the program. Someone should investigate them…

Are RNs sought after for this job? I no longer wish to work as an Inpatient RN and am looking at learning to do this remotely this year.
@cynthianoelting49918 ай бұрын
A job you might be interested in is a Clinical Documentation Specialist. It does involve. reviewing and coding medical records. Some positions offered can be remote, on-site or hybrid ( few days in office & few days at home), depending on the employer . Educate yourself on what this job intails and see if it is something you are interested in. Check out what employers requirements for hire are. Alot of times it is expected to have a certain amount of acute care experience or bedside nursing experience. It is on the job training. In addition to maintaining your nursing license, an expectation to obtain certications such as CCDS or other certification pertaining to the job within a period of time after hired may be required.😊

I've signed up for Medical Billing and Coding Career Diploma through my employer (A university hospital), and I was wondering what you think of career diplomas? It's taught through Penn Foster Career School. I don't know much about this sort of thing and have only began my new adventure a few weeks ago. I recently completed a year long course on personal and professional development, again through my employer, and have decided on medical coding. Medical coding was discussed as a career option through my recent course and I found your videos and have been binge watching them ever since. So, my question again, are career diplomas a good thing/place to start? After completion would I need more education in order to be hired as a coder? Any insight you may have would be wonderful. Thank you for all the content and education.
@ContempoCoding6 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your journey and I'm thrilled you've found my videos helpful! Regarding your question about career diplomas like the one offered by Penn Foster, I generally don't comment on specific programs unless I have personal experience with them, for liability reasons. It's great to hear about your proactive approach, and I encourage you to research the accreditation and outcomes of any program to ensure it aligns with your career goals!

Hello Victoria. Firstly, I want to say I love the blue duck pillow you have in the background. I have a question about the medical terminology and acronyms. Whats your advice on the best way to remember that stuff? I feel like with the amount of them, it's not possible for anyone to memorize them all lol. Its just really intimidating. I graduated high school with a 2.7 gpa and got a bachelors with like a 2.9, so im not the smartest 😅. Thank you ^_^
@ContempoCoding11 ай бұрын
Diving into the world of medical terminology and acronyms can indeed feel like scaling a mountain, but don't let your GPA fool you into thinking you're not up for the challenge. The key is to start with the basics, like understanding root words, prefixes, and suffixes, which can help you decode many terms. Creating mnemonics, those fun and quirky phrases, can be a lifesaver for remembering complex terms. Regular practice, even in short sessions, is crucial for retention. Flashcards can be a great tool for this. Also, try to relate the terms to real-life situations or things you're familiar with, as it makes the learning process more relatable and less intimidating. And don't underestimate the power of study groups - discussing with peers can make the learning journey more enjoyable and effective. Remember, everyone's learning journey is unique, so take it at your own pace and keep in mind that with time and practice, you'll get more comfortable and confident.

If our country ever got Universal Healthcare....would we still need coders? Would there still be coder jobs?
@ContempoCoding3 ай бұрын
Yes, even with Universal Healthcare, coders would still be needed. Coding is essential for documenting healthcare services, managing reimbursement processes, and ensuring accurate medical records. Coders would continue to play a crucial role in healthcare, even under a different system. It doesn't become a billing free-for-all under universal healthcare.
