If I Was Baptized As A Child, Should I Be Baptized Again As An Adult?

My entire youth group was baptized at the same time. I don’t even remember agreeing to it. I was 22 when I had the actual moment of acceptance and flood of pure emotion. That was 18 years ago and I recently just started my journey back to Christ. I know I don’t have to be baptized again, but part of me feels like it’s time.

Some churches misplace the meaning of baptism and use it as an initiation act and commitment or ceremony to become a member to “their” church instead of an act of profession of personal faith to Jesus. That’s why people stay away from churches that insist on people becoming re-baptized. Some churches use baptism as a commitment/joining to their church instead of to Jesus.

@@Portious You were christened as a baby in the Catholic Church which is not baptism as baptism is immersion in water. My children were christened too so I’m aware of what you’re writing. It is not baptism. I also understand the deification of Mary is wrong too. She was chosen to be the mother of Jesus. The Bible states that Jesus had brothers and sisters so after He was born she had other children. You’ll find good information by looking at videos from Beyond Today, United Church of God sermons, or Tomorrow’s World.

There is only one Baptism necessary for the Body of Christ in this dispensation according to the words Jesus gave us from Paul: Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, That is by the Spirit into one body. No water in this one baptism. 1Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. This happens once we believe Jesus died on the cross shedding His blood, was buried, rose for the forgiveness of our sins. By trusting this alone by faith we are saved and are put into the body of Christ by the Spirit. This is the only baptism needed and takes place in this time we live. NO water necessary. The words and the math are very simple. One means "one". Put away your traditions and believe the bible. Whatever you think you are doing when you get wet has nothing to do with what Jesus told us to do through OUR apostle Paul. The one baptism we experience is done by the Spirit, not a man. Just read the verses and know the context in which they were written.

Those years between the ages of 17-20 I was living on a repentance experience...leaving Jesus hanging there on the cross, so to speak. (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16, Acts 2:14-41, Acts 8:37-38, Acts 10:47-48) tells me I was not obeying the command to be buried with him in the waters of baptism and I had not received the Holy Ghost so thus was not resurrected to walk in newness of life. Therefore, could not live a victorious Christian life. We can go out into the highways and by-ways to share our testimony and compel the lost to come in to the church, cell groups, house meetings. The new converts need a place to fellowship with saints of like precious faith and to grow in Christ. They need a place of refuge Bc when they get saved the enemy is going to attack hard. They need a Pastor, who not only shepherds and gently guides their souls but is accountable to preach the truth as well. As soon we receive the Holy Ghost we can pray for whoever, whenever and wherever the Spirit leads us: For them to be healed, delivered or pray through to the Holy Ghost. If there is water, what does hinder them to be baptized? YOU can baptize them in Jesus name. Just be sure they have repented and it’s understood what takes place in baptism. I have witnessed healings, participated in baptisms and helped pray many thru to Holy Ghost in my Church as well as a few on the streets and even in my living room. I am not in a religion but in a relationship with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

(At this moment, in a natural birth, the water, blood and baby is there but until the you HEAR the baby CRY after taking in its first BREATH it could be still born. So you wait for the CRY to know baby is alive-So is everyone that it’s born of the Spirit). I began to speak in other tongues and could not speak English! It was the most amazing, most powerful, most enlightening and cleansing experience ever. It wasn’t till THAT MOMENT I was truly born of water and of the Spirit. Thus, BORN AGAIN! I was finally filled with the power to help me live a victorious life. Romans 13:14, Galatians 3:27-When you are baptized you are “covered” you have “put on” Christ (Gen 3:21-God “clothed” or “put on” the coats of skins of a bloody animal to “cover” the sin of Adam and Eve), (Romans 6:4) you are buried with Him in baptism, (Acts 2:33, 3:19) you have your sin remitted, (Acts 4:12) you take on His name and become the Bride of Christ in baptism. You are then adopted and become the sons and daughters of God. The Holy Ghost is just a portion of our inheritance. If we do not have His Spirit dwelling in us we are none of His. Those years between the ages of 17-20 I was living on a repentance experience...leaving Jesus hanging there on the cross, so to speak. (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16, Acts 2:14-41, Acts 8:37-38, Acts 10:47-48) tells me I was not obeying the command to be buried with him in the waters of baptism and I had not received the Holy Ghost so thus was not resurrected to walk in newness of life. Therefore, could not live a victorious Christian life. We can go out into the highways and by-ways to share our testimony and compel the lost to come in to the church, cell groups, house meetings. The new converts need a place to fellowship with saints of like precious faith and to grow in Christ. They need a place of refuge Bc when they get saved the enemy is going to attack hard. They need a Pastor, who not only shepherds and gently guides their souls but is accountable to preach the truth as well. As soon we receive the Holy Ghost we can pray for whoever, whenever and wherever the Spirit leads us: For them to be healed, delivered or pray through to the Holy Ghost. If there is water, what does hinder them to be baptized? YOU can baptize them in Jesus name. Just be sure they have repented and it’s understood what takes place in baptism. I have witnessed healings, participated in baptisms and helped pray many thru to Holy Ghost in my Church as well as a few on the streets and even in my living room. I am not in a religion but in a relationship with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I felt utterly defeated Bc I could not stay faithful to God, His Word or His commandments. 3 years later I walked into an Apostolic Church in Appleton/Menasha WI and the truth of salvation was revealed: The Gospel is the Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus Christ: (I Corinthians 15: 1-4). I learned to rightly divide the word of truth: The 4 Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John witness Jesus’ earthly ministry: He healed the sick, raised the dead, cast out demons and performed many miracles. In John 3, Nicodemus came to Jesus. They talked ABOUT being born again (JOHN 3:3-5 Except a man be born of the water and of the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven) but no one was ACTUALLY born again in the 4 gospels. Before Calvary they were still under the law but after Calvary we are under grace (Church Age) so it was not possible to be born again bc Jesus had not yet been glorified (John 7:37-39). This is why the thief on the cross was able to be in paradise...he was still under the dispensation of the law. It isn’t until the day of Pentecost, in Acts you witness people actually BEING born of the water by being baptized by immersion ONLY in the name of Jesus and BEING filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Yes exactly mee too i Got re baptized because now i understand what is truly meaning about baptism. My age now is 23 and when i was first baptized i was only 17 yr old. I didn't know about Jesus. But today im happy and receive the holy spirit comes from God. And i called my self a reborn Christian . Because of the grace of God.

I was baptized right as I turned 12, following my first church camp I went to. I think I did it cause it felt cool and the leaders made it seem that way ( which it totally is!) but didn’t understand the seriousness of it. Being 23 now, I would love to get baptized again being my choice entirely as I am now living and wanting to live a life following Jesus. Thoughts on a second baptism?

I was 7 when I was baptized and they made it seem cool to get baptized like if you did it you were in the in crowd instead of really informing us of the seriousness of it. I literally didn’t understand it. Now that I actually have a relationship with Jesus I want to do it again the right way with full understanding and receive the Holy Spirit.

I was baptized as a child around the single didget age. Once i was in my teens I really was not on the path of being a christian even though i went to church every sunday, and didi various activites in church weekly! As an adult i have been leaning on christ more and more often, there might be times when i fall off, but i always come back to him. Im even starting to was to learn more about jesus, the bible, and who he is as my savior! I think that now as an adult i would like to get baptized again, and really walk with jesus. I think that that is really where my journey with christ is going to expand more.

I was 11 1/2, when I got baptized. I don’t remember going up to my parents, saying I want be baptized. It was my parents decisions, for me get baptized. We talk to the Pastor about it. I didn’t fully understand it. My parents, should let me choose, not forcing me to be baptized. It was at someone’s backyard, with a pool. Then I was wondering, if my sins was in that pool, forever? Cause how can my sins be washed away, if we used someone’s pool?

NO! Baptism isn't about a "personal decision," because the Scripture never once attributes Baptism to a "personal decision." Baptism, like Circumcision of old, is God's mark on the person, setting him apart into His eternal kingdom. It's no different than a father and a mother giving a newborn a name, YEARS before the newborn is old enough to make a "personal decision" about his own name. It's identity and citizenship in God's kingdom. This is not to say that a person who is baptized won't apostate or disregard his baptism, but with daily repentance and faith, his baptism as an infant is as sure and God-gifted as was circumcision in the days of Abraham.

Im quite conflicted, can someone help? I was baptised as a baby but it was done as a tradition nothing more. I was raised completely secularband was an atheist until age 28. I love Jesus with all my heart but nothing seems to answer this specific predicament: If you were a baby with no understanding of Sin or repentance, and were baptised but raised completely secular, does this warrant a baptism now im an actual christian? I cant find an answer anywhere and im quite concerned as it don't want to be unbaptised if my original ceremony didnt count. But if it did, i dont want to be disrespectful to Christ by unwittingly trying works based salvation. Can someone please clarify?

I have the same question, baptised as a preschooler, not understanding. When I left the church they sent me a letter that my baptism is no longer valid, I'm paraphrasing, but now I definitely want to make sure I am baptised. Agree children should not be baptised too young as they are influenced and under parents control. When they fully understand and walk with Jesus that they choose the right path into obsidian to God. Then it's time to BAPTISM. JESUS SAID LET THE CHILDREN'S COME TO ME FOR THEM IS THE KINGDOM OF GOD. so you see they don't need it.

There is only one Baptism necessary for the Body of Christ in this dispensation according to the words Jesus gave us from Paul: Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, That is by the Spirit into one body. I know I was baptized as a baby like everyone in my moms family plus my brother and sister. She had my sister and I taking ccd one year for first communion when I was about 8. And then I was 10 when we got to start going to ccd again. Wasn't until I was in middle school when I found out about Yeshua and certain info from the Bible. Got confirmed, went to Catholic church until several months ago after I stopped going. But it wasn't until last month I fully found out and understood that why Yeshua was crucified. I'm the only one in the whole family, including relatives, who has converted and is fully into doing what Yeshua and Yahweh wants us to do. They need a Pastor, who not only shepherds and gently guides their souls but is accountable to preach the truth as well. As soon we receive the Holy Ghost we can pray for whoever, whenever and wherever the Spirit leads us: For them to be healed, delivered or pray through to the Holy Ghost. If there is water, what does hinder them to be baptized? YOU can baptize them in Jesus name. Just be sure they have repented and it’s understood what takes place in baptism. I have witnessed healings, participated in baptisms and helped pray many thru to Holy Ghost in my Church as well as a few on the streets and even in my living room. Since then I moved away from God and lived a life of homosexuality. I recently gave my life to Jesus and the pastor explained to me what baptism means and he explained why small kids should not be baptized. I just got baptized an hour ago because I decided to.

I feel I don't need to be baptized again. And when I was on the edge of being baptized my church got pushy about it and made me uncomfortable.

When I was 17 I was shown in the Bible that “Ye must be born again”. I was told to say a “sinners prayer” I sincerely repented and cried rivers of heartfelt genuine tears. I learned to rightly divide the word of truth: The 4 Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John witness Jesus’ earthly ministry: He healed the sick, raised the dead, cast out demons and performed many miracles. In John 3, Nicodemus came to Jesus. They talked ABOUT being born again (JOHN 3:3-5 Except a man be born of the water and of the Spirit he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven) but no one was ACTUALLY born again in the 4 gospels. Before Calvary they were still under the law but after Calvary we are under grace (Church Age) so it was not possible to be born again bc Jesus had not yet been glorified (John 7:37-39). This is why the thief on the cross was able to be in paradise...he was still under the dispensation of the law. Ephesians 4: 5 One Lord, one faith, ONE BAPTISM, WHICH BAPTISM? 1. The baptism, John the Baptist gave in WATER. (Matthew 3:11) OR 2. The baptism, Jesus gave in Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:5 and Luke 24:49) OR 3. The baptism, Holy Spirit gave in Jesus Christ as one body. (1 Corinthians 12:13 and Galatians 3:27). Today in the dispensation of Grace, Paul says there is ONLY ONE BAPTISM. Which one is that? John the Baptist gave to Israel. Jesus gave to the little flock. Holy Spirit gave to the Body of Christ. So according to Paul, we have only ONE BAPTISM which saves us in the present dispensation grace, which is given by the Holy Spirit into Jesus Christ in one body. So Water Baptism is an old one which was given to Israel. We the Body of Christ have only one baptism which was given by Holy Spirit into Jesus Christ in his death, burial and resurrection in one body which has the head as Christ. So according to Ephesians 4:5 this is the only one baptism Paul was talking about. When God changes things in the Bible to next modified advanced level old things are of no value. For example, the sacrificial laws of Moses for the sin was replaced by the sacrifice Of Jesus Christ and we no longer go back to the animal sacrifice which was commanded in the Bible. Same way the medium of baptism and the giver of baptism was changed. The giver was changed from humans to the Holy Spirit and the Medium of baptism changed from physical water to spiritual Jesus Christ. That's why the right division of the word of truth is necessary according to 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Book of Acts was a transition book. which records: The transition from Peter's ministry to Paul's ministry. The transition from Law to Grace. The transition from believing nation of Israel (Little Flock) to the Body of Christ. Book of Acts is NOT A DOCTRINAL BOOK. The content constantly changes in the Book of Acts. Dr. P. Samuel Paul I can't see any proof that the Ethiopian Eunuch was a Jew that Philip baptized. Water baptism is necessary or Jesus wouldn't have had it. He was baptized in the Jordan which is very symbolic if it's true that it's the lowest part of the earth. To be immersed there in the depths of the earth, lower than our level and then risen on high later, doesn't that symbolize what he came for? Also the Holy Spirit came upon him like a dove and this signified who he was (John 1:32-34). John said this would be the one who would baptize with Holy Spirit. This is saying only Jesus does that. Man baptizes with water, but God with Holy Spirit.

I have a question if you could help me I would appreciate it. I was baptized as a baby in the Catholic Church. I feel grateful that my parents did this because I feel like my soul was protected throughout my life because of it. It was the same God that I believe in now just a different organized religious building (I am a Christian but no longer identifying with the Catholic denomination) In my heart i am baptized already. I would feel like I don't really believe in baptism if I were to do it again as an adult but I do believe in baptism. I believe it was done already and God knows this why repeat it. Does it matter who baptizes you in the name of Jesus or just that you can understand it all? Thanks.

There is no need for water baptism today if you have believed and trust the gospel. That Jesus died shedding His blood, was buried and rose, for the forgiveness of your sins. This is what saves us. I Cor 15:1-4. Paul said: 1Cor 1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. The gospel that saves us today does not require water baptism at all, for any reason or by any method. There is only one baptism for us in the body of Christ and the Spirit is the one who does the baptizing , NOT a man. Eph 4:4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 1Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

As soon we receive the Holy Ghost we can pray for whoever, whenever and wherever the Spirit leads us: For them to be healed, delivered or pray through to the Holy Ghost. If there is water, what does hinder them to be baptized? YOU can baptize them in Jesus name. Just be sure they have repented and it’s understood what takes place in baptism. I have witnessed healings, participated in baptisms and helped pray many thru to Holy Ghost in my Church as well as a few on the streets and even in my living room. Sorry guys, Jesus loves you and all, but you are conflating a human work with God's work. Baptism now saves you 1 Peter 3:21. It is Christ's work on ,in and for us. His work brings salvation. Teach and baptize go together for sure. Order is not significant.babies know their mother's voice at birth and even before. They even trust her in every way. What a perfect picture of Christ taking care of us and saving us in baptism. Love the water and the word, especially when they are connected as in baptism.

I agree with second part but not the first.I would say to his question what is baptism that its not just an expression, its 1) receiving the holy spirt and 2)being born again 1) Matthew 3:16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on him 2) John 3:5 Born of Water and the Spirit I agree with second part thou that you dont need to be babtized more than once thou because if you believe catholic thinking, its not like the power of god wasnt strong enough the first time because like even those guys said its not something you do it something God does. Therefore, could not live a victorious Christian life. We can go out into the highways and by-ways to share our testimony and compel the lost to come in to the church, cell groups, house meetings. The new converts need a place to fellowship with saints of like precious faith and to grow in Christ. They need a place of refuge Bc when they get saved the enemy is going to attack hard. They need a Pastor, who not only shepherds and gently guides their souls but is accountable to preach the truth as well. As soon we receive the Holy Ghost we can pray for whoever, whenever and wherever the Spirit leads us: For them to be healed, delivered or pray through to the Holy Ghost. If there is water, what does hinder them to be baptized? YOU can baptize them in Jesus name. Just be sure they have repented and it’s understood what takes place in baptism. I have witnessed healings, participated in baptisms and helped pray many thru to Holy Ghost in my Church as well as a few on the streets and even in my living room. There's no such thing as being re-baptized. Once you're validly baptized once, that's it. If you try getting baptized again, all you get is wet. Also, the idea that baptism is an "outward sign of inward faith," or whatever, is contrary to the Scriptures. St. Peter said that just like Noah and his family were saved through the flood, baptism now saves us

Pastor, I watched your previous video on “should I be baptized to go to Heaven” you missed one important key part and that is using “dispensations”. you do not have to be baptized to be saved. Baptism is an outwardly works to show our faith in Jesus. Me as an Christian believes in baptism, but I also know that I don’t have to be baptized to be saved. Only Jesus can save me. Romans 13:14, Galatians 3:27-When you are baptized you are “covered” you have “put on” Christ (Gen 3:21-God “clothed” or “put on” the coats of skins of a bloody animal to “cover” the sin of Adam and Eve), (Romans 6:4) you are buried with Him in baptism, (Acts 2:33, 3:19) you have your sin remitted, (Acts 4:12) you take on His name and become the Bride of Christ in baptism. The only way anyone was ever baptized was in the name of Jesus! Matthew 28:18-19. Jesus said: ALL POWER IS GIVEN UNTO ME IN HEAVEN AND IN EARTH. (SO ALL POWER OF HEAVEN AND EARTH MUST BE IN THE NAME OF JESUS!) John 5:43-The name of the Father is Jesus, Matthew 1:21-The name of the Son is Jesus, John 14:26-The name of the Holy Ghost is Jesus. Jesus was crucified for WHO HE WAS not for what he did. When we truly understand WHO Jesus is we will understand the importance of being baptized in Jesus name. Romans 8:9-16. You are then adopted and become the sons and daughters of God. The Holy Ghost is just a portion of our inheritance. If we do not have His Spirit dwelling in us we are none of His. Those years between the ages of 17-20 I was living on a repentance experience...leaving Jesus hanging there on the cross, so to speak. (Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16, Acts 2:14-41, Acts 8:37-38, Acts 10:47-48) tells me I was not obeying the command to be buried with him in the waters of baptism and I had not received the Holy Ghost so thus was not resurrected to walk in newness of life. Therefore, could not live a victorious Christian life. We can go out into the highways and by-ways to share our testimony and compel the lost to come in to the church, cell groups, house meetings. The new converts need a place to fellowship with saints of like precious faith and to grow in Christ. They need a place of refuge Bc when they get saved the enemy is going to attack hard. They need a Pastor, who not only shepherds and gently guides their souls but is accountable to preach the truth as well. As soon we receive the Holy Ghost we can pray for whoever, whenever and wherever the Spirit leads us: For them to be healed, delivered or pray through to the Holy Ghost. If there is water, what does hinder them to be baptized? YOU can baptize them in Jesus name. Just be sure they have repented and it’s understood what takes place in baptism. I have witnessed healings, participated in baptisms and helped pray many thru to Holy Ghost in my Church as well as a few on the streets and even in my living room. I am not in a religion but in a relationship with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Could I be baptized in another church? There's a Christian church near our house.. But I am not participating in their fellowships.. I am serving in other church.. Or should I be baptized in a local church where I'm involved and attending fellowships? Thank you!

Now that you know you must be baptized in Jesus Name, by immersion and in Jesus Name was the way it was done in the book of Acts. You can now teach them about baptism according to the Book of Acts. It they are old enough to understand and can explain it they can get baptized as well. As soon as you can find a church or someone that has already been baptized and have them baptize you. You will then receive the gift of the Holy Ghost which they also received in the Book of Acts. That is where the first Century church started. That is where the dispensation of grace began so it is in Acts that you find out how to be born again. Yes! Baptizing unbelieving babies is totally unScriptural. Only believers were baptized just as Christ himself has instructed. "16 He who believes [who adheres to and trusts in and relies on the Gospel and Him Whom it sets forth] **and is baptized** will be saved [ from the penalty of eternal death]; but he who does not believe [who does not adhere to and trust in and rely on the Gospel and Him Whom it sets forth] will be condemned" Mark 16:16 (AMP.Bible) Belief MUST come before baptism. Babies cannot believe neither can they consent to be baptized. Even then they are only sprinkled with water which is not Christian baptism. Full immersion is the true "One baptism". "As they continued along on the way, they came to some water, and the eunuch exclaimed, See, [here is] water! There is only one Baptism necessary for the Body of Christ in this dispensation according to the words Jesus gave us from Paul: Eph 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, That is by the Spirit into one body. No water in this one baptism. 1Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. This happens once we believe Jesus died on the cross shedding His blood, was buried, rose for the forgiveness of our sins. By trusting this alone by faith we are saved and put into the body of Christ by the Spirit. This is the only baptism needed and takes place in this time we live. NO water necessary. Listen to Pastor Charles Lawson!! I highly HIGHLY recommend listening to him. These two men mean well; however, they are following the traditions of MAN...not what Our Lord Jesus Christ had said!!!
