The tie to his dog goes a little further than what was stated. The dog was a gift from his wife, delivered right after her funeral. Also, from the beginning of 3 on, it's self defense. We do see him repeatedly give people an option to not try to kill him. Additionally, it's implied that the world of the assassins is in fact integrated into every aspect of John's world. They may in fact be untouchable by the law, or have infiltrated the establishment so much that the legal system is theirs to control.

@genxer1 Жыл бұрын
Yes, a lot of people say 'all that over a dog?'. You are right though. It wasn't just the killing of a dog. It was what the dog represented. It was a posthumous gift from his recently deceased wife to help him cope with her death. It was a personal gift from her; the last thing she did for him and a living link to her. When they killed the dog I always thought it was a terrible desecration of her memory that John couldn't tolerate, far more than just killing an animal. He left that lifestyle for her and she was his anchor. Without her, he was lost. I always felt like the people who say it was just a dog are taking a very narrow and simplistic view of it. Also, like another poster said, they broke into his home, assaulted him, stole his prize car, and damaged his other car. With all of those desecrations and violations and without his wife to restrain him I always thought it was natural for him to revert back to what he knew and what he was comfortable with. He had a mission and a focus again in a lifestyle he knew well and excelled at and could use it all to gain revenge and find some stability and familiarity Might just be me, but I always thought there was much more depth in the first movie especially than many people give it credit for.

...I could actually see Mr Wick, after completing his vendetta and getting his "victory"...just going to a jail cell. He'd see the NSA strike team (because no way would it be just PD at that point) set down his guns, and let himself be taken into custody. By the end he's just battered, tired and completely worn and done. Spend the rest of his life in a quiet Max-Security facility, just reading, taking up hobbies and resting and maybe playing with the occasional dog or puppy until he meets the long dark? He'd befriend the guards, the Warden, and be an inoffensive and polite model prisoner. His war is done, after all.

I thought Jonathan would've suggested John bring an "emotional support HK MP-5" to the fight. It also seemed to me that the longer barrelled AR-15 variant wasn't ideal for the close quarters "gun-fu" shown in the scene.

If John had an emotional support MP5 it would have been a gift from his late wife that then got destroyed at the start of the movie

I agree with you - if we think that Wick was prepared for THAT close quarters of a fight. I think that he, being an expert assassin and also knowing that he was not-so-slightly above the cut, would've picked a weapon for his preferred fighting ranges, but a weapon that would also not fail him at less than desirable ranges. The idea is more or less that eventually, whether or not you want to, you adjust to life without whatever it was that you lost and not obsess with hurting whoever it was that took it from you (you might still think about it, but it can't effectively remain your purpose for continuing to exist while keeping you a functional human). The unresolvedness eventually dulls and fades away on its own if you do something else but remains if you continue to obsess over it. It's not really an answer, and frankly I can't give one. It ultimately boils down to "You'll forget about it, unless you actively choose not to."

The best answer if your financial situation and such allow for it is to figure out how to find a clinician that specializes in the problem you have. For example, the specific kind of trauma you went through. In the absence of that I'd suggest taking the time to educate yourself on trauma and also working out how to figure out what info is good and whats bunk or too speculative. Find good expert opinions from reputed and well respected sources, and look for evidence based methods. Also read up on people who've gone through the kinds of things you've gone through. That helps a lot. Just don't fixate on it, and always return to the basics like taking care of your sleep patterns, eating well, having structure and routine, etc. I had a friend who got stuck in their head trying to process their trauma and pushing themselves to and they'd get stuck in cycles of getting really upset. Doing basic things helped their recovery a lot

Why do insane ruthless killers bother to have so many rules? It brings to mind a favorite Doctor Who quote. Madame Kovarian tries to dismiss concern about angering the Doctor. (“The anger of a good man is not a problem. Good men have too many rules.”) The Doctor corrects her in his reply. (“Good men don't need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many.”) The High Table society has a similar issue; when your group members are all self-interested and morally dubious, you need a comprehensive set of strict guidelines to keep from tearing your collective apart.

@XDD50Hz Жыл бұрын
granted i do think it’s true that they shouldn’t have a rule that could potentially go against them, i do think that if they tack on some more details in their rules then there will be possible ways to exploit the rules against them anyway, so keep it simple can be a good approach i guess

@@XDD50Hz Haven't seen the 4th yet, so not sure what that scene involves, but honestly I'd argue that the rules only apply to those NOT at the High Table anyway.🤷😅 So if a person of the High Table challenges a duel, then that is their prerogative, but someone NOT of the High Table could try, but if not accepted, attempting anything would be against the rules. The psychologist may be right in general regarding "revenge" but I think she's neglectful of the elephant in the room. John Wick spent a major and deep portion of his life training to be, becoming and excelling at ... assassination. It was the love of his wife that got him away from that life. After the props on that change got kicked out by her death and the loss of her living gift to him of that innocent puppy, where else could he go but regressing to what he has always known and done? His adversaries removed all the barriers he had built. After the first film, John is initially really trying to reestablish his break with that life but he is forced back in early in the second film. After that, it's all been self defense. In that world the only options are to fight or put a bullet in your own head.

And the reactions from special-forces people, the kind who know how to do gunfights, and let them point out how many times they would have killed JW if they were the bad guys. I mean; JW stands in the middle of the room reloading his weapon while he can already hear the next batch of badguys coming. Surely they would have heard the gunshots, they'd know that JW was close, would a trained assassin even think about just running into the room? it wounds more like a flashbang/handgrenade type of scenario, ammiright? What I'm saying is; the only thing that they got right in this movie is how the guns work and how they should be handled. Everything else is completely wrong.
