The music works very well with this scene. I wonder if Williams would have even scored it? He might have chosen to leave it un-scored, like the Bar Fight in Raiders.
@boudreauxbroletariat39595 жыл бұрын
I suspect the bar fight in Raiders was scored through, and maybe they chose to leave it out during post-production. I know Jackson took this approach with Shore in much of Lord of the Rings.

The Medallion is 3m4/4m1, while Flight to Cairo is 4m2. I think the Raiders bar fight was intentionally left unscored to resemble bar fights in movies like Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

I actually quite like the score for the show. It evokes old cowboy serials which is what they're going for with this show. Right down to the way Mando "rides off on his wagon" at the end of each episode.
@minhuang88485 жыл бұрын
Ludwig Göransson is a real master of his craft and his work on Mando really makes the show for me. Community, Black Panther... he always nails it. I'm really grateful for someone like him changing it up a good bit. I like the original score, but at this stage putting some old motives in newer movies almost seem like pandering while everything stays exactly the same. I want a different reimagination. People have become accustomed to different sounds, the feel of Mandalorian is much more renegade-y than any Star Wars I've seen... the score is fantastic and what made me like the show to begin with.
@CharlieFisherMusic5 жыл бұрын
I must disagree with you. Whilst I think it's a cool genre, and some elements of this 'western' vibe work with the show, I think it is less pragmatic than the approach that Williams had already established. Sometimes I feel that the music 'disconnects' me from some scenes in the Mando. I would of liked if he used what Williams had already established as a foundation and gone off that - I can't hear any resemblance as it is. Just because it's different, doesn't mean its better imo. I'm sure Ludwig is a talented composer - but the music just doesn't cut it for me.

@@CharlieFisherMusic Glad someone feels the same way here, he clearly stole his inspiration from Bill Conti's Rocky score ! And how the refuses to admit he stole more then an inspiration from that score for Mando in an interview i saw is sad! He worked on the movie Creed before ,that is clearly a Rocky continuation , for his work on Creed he must have done some research and found and liked Bill's OST and nearly lifted all instruments and many cues from there. His Love for Rocky is further evident as he named his own Son Apollo ! The same name as Carl Weathers had in the Movie. And then he lies here about stealing mostly all his music from other places. Man, so sad ! Actually, there seems to be mostly nothing original in all his compositions , and especially in the Mandalorian the music is so random, generic often and all over the place, its mostly just bad ! He ignores existing Star Wars musical history , tunes and existing motif's that would benefit the show for his own selfish reasons. OR he just don't know how to compose a good original score ! Really i I like the show, but his music nearly pushes me to the limit of what i can take.

He definitely would have scaled it back. This is just a bar fight, and might have done better with some cantina theme to start, interrupting when the fighting got deadly, then resumed when it resolved as if scumbags dying horribly was a normal occurrence.

I kind of wished that Ludwig had tried to embrace a little more of that Williams Star Wars tone. He did a fantastic job with the orchestral version of the main theme, but every thing else is either too modern sounding or just Morriconne (which I’m fine with). Michael Giacchino found the perfect balance in my opinion between his sound, the overall sound of Star Wars, and using many of the key John Williams Star Wars motifs. If that’s all Ludwig did was add classic Star Wars motifs and maybe created more of his own, then the score would improve massively.

While I really like the Mando's score, I've always maintained that it doesn't have that Star Wars sound that makes a very Star Wars like project on the visual production side feel a bit less like Star Wars. This really illustrates why. I agree with Ephriot that perhaps for this scene Williams wouldn't have gone "so big" (This is more of a running from velociraptors track) but as a representation of what Star Wars has consistently sounded like since 1977 until 2016, and how the Mando could have turned out with a composer that mirrors John Williams, this works.

@peterjoyfilms5 жыл бұрын
John Williams does a lot of mickey mousing, but it's usually a bit subtler than this Edit: I think also this video syncs things up too closely rather than too much, for example how the music changes when the hologram comes on. Typically with this sort of thing the music comes a little after, because it's non diegetic and sort of reactionary to the image.

@Timbecillus5 жыл бұрын
I think that's the point. The style of the show isn't typical Star Wars, I'd rather have them try something new with the music as well. (Just like Kevin Kiner's TV scores only occasionally quote Williams, when appropriate, instead of emulating his style all the time)
@miguelbayne45065 жыл бұрын
@@Timbecillus I totally get it, it's just that, to me, the music is a bit too extremely removed from classic Star Wars music. And it doesn't quote any of the old themes (from what I've heard so far). It's just that what Ludwig did (unsurprisingly) is so devoid of the kind of naïveté and fun that makes John Williams' Star Wars scores so engaging and timeless. Kevin Kiner would have been a much more appropriate choice as the composer. Ludwig's music possesses none of the emotional richness and complexity of the other Star Wars scores.
@boudreauxbroletariat39595 жыл бұрын
I had high hopes for Ludwig since I love his work on black panther and creed. But the music is definitely his own genre, especially compared to how Powell and Giacchino essentially aped Williams' idiom (not that I'm complaining, they did fantastic work). The new sound gives SW some viability in the future and lets it step out from the shadow of Williams and Lucas.

I will say though that the interpretation is very much in there but if we look at the show as a whole , It really is a western, down to the cinematography of it it demands that sound To a point. Nonetheless if you were to rescore it with a more John Williams vibe with a western style you would probably get something far more closer to what you re-scored. I really appreciate this thank you very much this was very cool. This really does show the dramatic difference in tone of film by the change of sound.

This was interesting. But contrary to what a lot of people say in the comments, this does not sound more like Star Wars. It sounds more like Big Movie. And The Mandalorian isn't that. John Williams music might evoke a sense of nostalgia for the franchise, but it wouldn't fit the style of the series at all. This is not in the epic fantasy genre, like the main series, but rather the western/samurai genre. The music has to reflect that. An epic fantasy soundtrack muddles the genre and waters the scene down.

This sounds so much better in terms of tone than the music that is actually in the show in my opinion. That being said the recent episode was much more true to the star wars style. Every so often however Göransson will just completely go off on a tangent musically - like he has run out of true to style ideas, throwing my whole perspective off. Its annoying. I digress though, much better - though he'd of had the music loose its energy once the fight was over and the blue guy was talking. Even though the dynamic is lower, the rhythm of it is still too distracting and unintentionally gives off the feeling that the Mandalorian is still in danger, when he isn't - which in turn, doesn't allow us to focus fully on what the blue guy is saying. Much better overall.

I love the Mandolorian, but I hate the scores! They take me out of story. I get what they are trying to do with it, but I don't think it works. It just seems amateur to me. I can tell the composer is able to do good work, but the philosophy behind this show's scores are all wrong. That is my opinion, and I have heard the same from most of the fans I speak with. There are glimpses of greatness there, but the scores are just too unbalanced.

Much much better ! I really want to enjoy the mandalorian but this terrible OST drags me every time down ! The OST sounds like all over the place nothing seems to fit, action scenes with metallic noise and snare drums that doesn't resemble music at all. Worst..the main theme sounds like a copy of Bill Conti's Rocky ! The music was always an integral part of star wars, a character it self that made the whole experience ! Watching Mando with this music just feels like dragging it down. Cheap straight to DVD level stuff. Star Wars has such a rich history of music, and many people or places have tunes and musical motif's that are mostly all absent here ! Sad ! The music is the weakest part in this otherwise great show for me !
