Baby June (Ann Jillian) and Louise (Natalie Wood) wish Mama would just marry Herbie (Karl Madden).
Louise wants it to be 'Just Momma, three ducks, five canaries, A mouse, two monkeys, one father, six turtles. And me.' And the little lamb of course!
Postscript, 05/11/2014: Recently watched Chichester Festival Theatre's production of Gypsy which was amazing. And I was reminded of something: WHAT HAPPENS TO THE LITTLE LAMB??? Shouldn't they address that?

In real life, June Havoc (Baby June) was a huge animal lover herself and provided a home to many animals, including birds, dogs, cats, and donkeys. Also, the sisters were rather confused about exactly how old they were for many years because Mama Rose kept changing their birth years to get around child labor laws. According to her obituary in the New York Times: "Her mother reportedly carried five birth certificates for her younger daughter, to satisfy the child labor laws of every state, so June wasn't sure exactly how old she was..." In later years, June endorsed the birth year of 1912 as correct.

Natalie Wood did all her own singing for this movie - it didn't require a strong operatic voice as was required in her previous film WEST SIDE STORY. As for Roz Russell, who played the Mama role, most of her singing was dubbed by Lisa Kirk, although a small amount of Roz's own voice remains, such as in the song "Mr Goldstone".

An oddity of this film is that everyone thought Rosaland Russell sang her own numbers and Natalie was dubbed as she was in West Side Story. But in fact it was Rosaland who was dubbed and Natalie did all her own singing. Great number here.

In real life, Louise was almost 2 years older than June. In this movie, she looks like she's about 10 years older. Natalie Wood was in her early 20s. Ann Jilian was 11 or 12. It's obvious.

That's the way they've always cast it on stage as well. They have to cast a louise that's old enough to pull of playing louise when she is older and working in the club.

At this point in the stage version, older June has replaced young June, which makes the snark way more believable and understandable. No late teen wants to be dressed like a baby.

Natalie Wood had a girl-next-door kind of voice which was fine for this role, but no, the musical score of WEST SIDE STORY is vocally challenging even for a Professional Female Soprano, which Natalie was not - it's really understandable that they used an Operatic Soprano (Marni Nixon) to do the singing for her in WSS -
