How long do asgardians live for in the MCU? I know Loki said "give or take a millennium" when Odin compared themselves to humans, but is there any concrete information? Also: jokes on you, Loki will just sit out the prison sentences and fake his death as often as he needs to :D

@@runtergerutscht4401 This doesn't asnwer your question and this is information from someone else so take it with a grain of salt, but I want to share it with someone. A few years ago, someone calculated the Asgardians years according to how old we are told they usually live and how old Thor, Loki, and Odin are. They found that if the Asgaurdians were human, Thor would be in his early to mid twenties, Loki would be 16, and using their math, I calculated that if Odin was human, he would be over 100 years old. I don't remember how old exactly since its been years since I saw the post.

He could be even worse than Thanos. He tried to commit a genocide of HIS OWN people. And moreover, Thanos commited instant genocide, while Loki did it a lot, a lot worse, trying to destroy even the very planet. Not counting literally waging a war against Earth.

A fair few of the crimes here had mitigating circumstances, including all three death penalties. Regicide, for instance, gets murky when you're killing the ruler of an enemy nation. Especially when you're a prince and said ruler is about to commit regicide on your father. Likewise, it's not difficult to argue the Attempted Genocide and Mass Destruction of Property that followed were legitimate military retaliation to what would very much be an act of war. Perhaps a disproportionate response to an assassination attempt, but otherwise comparable to an official with the authority to make the decision pressing the nuclear button in response to... say a North Korean assassin being caught red-handed trying to assassinate the US president. And a fair few of the others were done under the effects of brainwashing.

What would Thanks have wanted from the Battle of New York? He had the mind stone in the sceptre he gave to Loki, and Loki captured the tesseract in the first act. The battle of New York was entirely unnecessary for Thanos’ grand plan. (Unless you plan to argue that his attack on the curry was to steal the time stone, but that feel unlikely). We all know Loki was tried and convicted on Asgard under Asgardian law, though considering his ridiculously long lifespan and the fact that he has cheated death at LEAST 4 times so far...it could be argued he's already served out most if not all of that. Also the "death penalty" sentence would depend on where and when each villain committed their crimes...because you know...there are more places out there than just America. Each of these villains committed at least SOME of their crimes internationally (and in Loki's case, intergalactically), so the charges for crimes committed in those jurisdictions would be subject to the laws of said jurisdictions.

Given that Loki is already about 1500 years old, I think he would likely survive the years of the sentence, and they'd probably have to come up with a new way to kill him for any death sentence, as he's likely immune or resistant to all the current methods given his ice giant/godly physiology. I would also like to point out that the events of the avengers happened while he was under duress, as The Other and Thanos were essentially bribing and forcing him to do it using threats of violence and pain. Yes, he was getting something out of it, but he was also being threatened at the same time. I think he should be able to make a deal there to reduce his sentencing a bit, as he was under duress and we saw that the Other was able to cause him pain even from far away. Even Thor knew Loki was being used by someone else. He was also tried on Asgard and sentenced for his crimes there, as seen with his imprisonment in Thor Dark World, so he's served a small part of his sentence.

Thoughts on these arguments as the hypothetical supervillain lawyer? -The first frost giant Loki killed in Thor is self defense as he was attacking Loki with intent to harm and kill. Loki could not have been expected to know he'd be fine given he didn't know he was a frost giant. -Loki is a foreign royal, regent king for part of Thor. I wonder if that would give him sovereign immunity like the UK royal family or diplomatic immunity (not sure on this one) for crimes off his home world. Unlike Thor he wasn't explicitly stripped of his titles as prince when he was presumed dead. -Laufey declared war in essence after Thor's retaliation -Coulson lived so that would be attempted murder. -One could argue Loki's actions as regent king can be claimed out depending on the laws of Asgard (On that note have you been using estimated charges in the location that would most likely have jurisdiction where possible or just 1 nation? Though I get not being able to go into heavy detail for other realms, I assume some jurisdiction goes to Germany for Stuggart) Given it is a warrior realm with an absolute monarchy I can see him getting more leniency. (except in crimes of years in jail given life expectancy) -In general acts as a country actively at war don't exactly line up with the person on the throne as much as one taking them of their own will. My thoughts going to nukes and WW2, I am p sure the president didn't get murder charges for those? Specifically for when Loki is king, before and after, not his call on the nation, different story. -I assume we are ignoring assault charges across the board for convenience? I don't blame you I don't wanna count every punch each villian throws either. -No way in hell that push dagger woulda killed Thor and I think they both know that. Def a crime but prolly not attempted murder -I know this goes against em but property damage across the board I am an engineering student not a lawyer so if any of these are off, thats why
