I love the sleeves with Aspirin since it drapes in a way that almost mimics muscle -y arms when you squint at it. Its fitting since you described it as making someone sort of unaware of the pain they're going through and almost feel stronger then they are in reality. Probably not an intentional design choice but cool nonetheless.

Willows are my favourite tree. Not only are the responsible for aspirin, but they’re also incredible for the environment. They’re remarkably good at removing toxic or harmful substances from water, (such as pesticides or fertilizers, if you’re in a farming region like me) great for carbon sequestration, and have the bonus ability to coppice. What this means is that if a willow is cut at the stump, it will grow more branches quickly in its place. This is the other reason why they’re so useful for absorbing and cleaning pollutants both from the water and from the air- because they can be regularly cut, they can keep absorbing more. tl;dr willows prevent pain for people and for bodies of water, hell yeah

6:46 I had a sudden flashback to "Pocahontas" where she gives John Smith a little bag and says, "It's made from Grandmother Willow's bark. It'll help with the pain." And it suddenly made sense. Pocahontas essentially gave John an ancient form of aspirin for his gunshot wound, since most European "remedies" for pain and inflammation at the time were alcohol (either consumed by the patient or poured onto the wound) or bloodletting (through leeches or cutting), and the occasional poultice made with dubious materials, which most often didn't help and only made things worse.

Blood letting was... Actually very fringe and dying out by that point, European medicine of that time (while yes occasionally quite questionable) wasn't just random, many of the medicines used back then are still used now, I mean, willows are native to Europe, and we figured out the pain relief thing too, it was just a sort of folk remedy (Willow bark on its own wouldn't do much)... Also alcohol is a pain relief, its a pretty bad one but you're likely to already have it around anyway.

I can just IMAGINE the first time they tested penicillin... *A student is sitting on the desk of their professor, as I don't know whether or not they already discovered that you need to have everything sterile at the time and I'll just assume no for the bit. The professor and student are both holding open the infected eye while everyone else has gone home already. The professor wanted to test this after work and asked the student during his own class if they were willing to help him test something that may cure their eye infection. The student is nervous and asks* "Professor, are you SURE this will work?" *The professor, already having the needle VERY close to the student's eye replies, with a slightly excited voice* "I have no idea!"
@Haunted20772 жыл бұрын
“Let’s go practice medicine.”
@juliabarrow-hemmings66242 жыл бұрын
Tbf, they did already have an idea it would work; penicillin was discovered because the professor forgot to clean his petri dishes and when he came back, he saw that the penicillin had fought off all the other things on its petri dish, so it stood to reason that it would also fight off the germs inside your body too. Also, yes, they already understood sterilisation, although that had only been cleared up fairly recently, a few decades prior you would have been rather scared if your doctor had clean clothes, a bloody doctor clearly did more work.

An interesting way to look at medicines is actually to think of it as poison in small doses. Imagine a plant that makes your heart beat WAY too fast, but you have a dangerous condition that makes your heart beat too slowly. If you consume the plant in small amounts, your heart will beat exactly fast enough. I think that that is a very good way to describe medicine. If I learn about a lot of exceptions, I may update this comment if I remember that I made it.

i feel like it would be super interesting if u did a insulin ‘character’! i’m a diabetic (type 1) and i feel like most people don’t really think of insulin when it comes to medication, wether it be a) they aren’t a diabetic or rlly someone who knows a diabetic or b) ppl only think of it as something we “all” make lol. i feel as though it’s more important we all know more abt insulin and diabetes in general. There are also some ppl who are allergic to it and have to work out a way to take it without their body freaking out!

Please do anti-depressants next! I’d love to see how different ones make others feel and how you’d perceive them as humans (from a Zoloft user, still have bad anxiety with it but not so much depression)

Next time you decide to do one of these again, you should absolutely do naloxone (narcan), it's the absolute wonder medication that emergency response use to defuse an opium overdoses.

What if you made a video were mushrooms were people? I've seen some pretty cool mushrooms and I feel like you could make some pretty cool art inspired by them.

A fact you missed about penicillin is that it’s actually been used since the ancient Egyptians. They had discovered that the penicillin mold on bread could be used to treat ailments common amongst children especially infections or broken bones.

I absolutely love these!!! Could you do one where to make characters out of drugs? As in, illegal drugs? Just a suggestion. Idk if KZbin would allow this though😅

Your art is so pretty! I've been watching you for a long time now and your character designs REALLY help me with ocs. I also really like the mushrooms on Penicillin! (P.S my mom is allergic to penicillin, if she takes it she cant breath, her throat would swell)
