Actually a Firefighter with a Fire type mon does makes sense. They can use their partner to enter hot zones that are too dangerous for a Firefighter. Back fires are also a forest fire's worst enemy. Used correctly you can burn out a forest fire by using up all available fuel before the real fire can get to it.

For those of you who saw the segment about Torchic at 7:47, I must clarify there's a huge difference between spicy and hot. A pepper can be spicy and cool, simultaneously, whereas ham can be hot without being spicy. By the way, I believe there are chickens in the pokemon world; they simply do not appear so often in the show, as it probably didn't matter any of the episodes' plots or arcs. Thank you.
