Pokemon is 100% a kids game. Game freak has drove that home hard. Pokemon aren't original creatures and are inspired by something. Kids can't read and/or understand the pokedex. We notice these things because we are adults. None is shown on screen.

Im not well versed in Pokémon anymore but it was my understanding that Pokémon are either slightly more intelligent wildlife or fully sentient, in one case they lack the intelligence to destroy the world and in the other they lack the motivation, i can also only assume there are pokemon of equal or greater power who want to protect the world.
