That’s very easy to correct. Just don’t give them the option. Kids aren’t naturally picky, we train them to be that way.
@CeruleanStar2 жыл бұрын
@@charlescole7532 Slight correction: *Most* kids aren't naturally picky. If your kid happens to be nuerodivergent (such as if they have ADHD or autism), sensory issues could come into play. For whomever may read this: If your kid is uncommonly picky or selective with food despite your best efforts, it may be worth looking into whether they have other symptoms of ADHD or autism as well. Food sensitivity is one of the easiest symptoms to spot in young kids. Same with sensitivity in the other senses, such as sensitivity to loud noises, the feel of certain things like tags on clothing, etc. Not all kids with ADHD or Autism will have sensitivity issues, and not all will have all kinds, but it is there for many.
@violetdusk19682 жыл бұрын
@@CeruleanStar interesting I never heard this before. I have ADHD and I always been a picky eater. If I don't like a food it's really hard to eat it I might even throw up if I force myself to eat things I don't like.
@CeruleanStar2 жыл бұрын
@@violetdusk1968 I have ADHD as well, but I wasn't diagnosed until I was an adult. Looking back, I definitely showed some pretty clear sensory processing issues as a kid. I had a hard time with food too. My mom tried to help, but she eventually had to give in and feed me what I liked just to get me to eat. I was perfectly willing to starve myself over going through the trauma of forcing down foods I was adverse to. It's hard for people who don't experience these symptoms to understand. Some tastes and textures overwhelmed me in a way only pain could otherwise. I think I have only experienced pain as bad as the overwhelm eating some of the foods I was very adverse to caused maybe twice in my life. Of course I didn't want to eat things that caused me the equivalent of very bad levels of pain. I imagine your wanting to throw up is a very normal response to this type of aversion. I did manage to train myself out of most of it starting in my teenage years, but it was a slow and very long process. I still don't handle some foods well, but I am a lot better than I was as a kid. (I wouldn't recommend someone training a neurodivergent child out of this before they are ready though. It could very well create trauma.) Sensory processing issues are a symptom of ADHD that aren't talked enough about. Because of my personality, I was able to mask most of my ADHD as a kid. The sensory processing issues were one of the only clear signs that could have been picked up on. If people had been more open about and aware of this symptom of neurodivergence, I could have had the benefit of an early diagnosis. Of course, not everyone with ADHD will have this symptom, and those who do will have it in different ways with different levels of severity. I guess I'm just trying to spread awareness. I may not be the person to do so in the best way, but I hope that maybe someone could read this and have something click for themselves or a loved one.
@violetdusk19682 жыл бұрын
@@CeruleanStar I agree. as an adult it is easier to re-try some foods I didn't like when I was younger but it's still hard for me to try new foods. I never realized I even had these sensory reactions until now. Sometimes when I eat food when I'm super hungry it actually hurts my tongue when the food first hits my mouth. Also one I was like wtf is asmr I looked it up and realized certain music makes me tingle on my skin and almost go into a trance if I focus to much. I was a ADHD kid in the 90s and they really didn't understand any of this back then. The school teachers just wanted us on drugs so we would be easier to control. I think food may have something to do with ADHD as well because I notice in my children when they eat certain things I can watch their little engines rev as the energy starts surging through them.

I’ve been wanting a show like this for years. It would be so funny. And grandmas and kids would occasionally guest star and be the only judges. And then cooks would win or lose because there’s no mac & cheese or french fries or because one of the kids doesn’t like anything orange on his plate

There was a show called "Cook Your A** Off" that basically did this. The idea was chefs would make a 'diet plan' for someone who lived unhealthy and present a meal to them. And inevitably the person who tried it was always like "Yeah I don't like these green things and why are there capers? I don't like capers. Mushrooms are dirty." But they always tried to make it fancy despite the person always being a rushed dude or someone with not enough time to cook.

My grandmother lived to be 93 and she never ate a steak in her life that wasn’t well done. If there was any blood, any pink at all it was called “raw” and wouldn’t eat it because the Bible said don’t eat blood. She also never ate asparagus as that was a northern vegetable. Cabbage, butter beans, snap beans, fried okra, potatoes, onions, carrots, shoe peg corn and collards and the occasional tomato and Mayo sandwich were the only vegetables she would eat. Everything else was too foreign. Trying to cook for her was a waste of time and effort. She wanted everything plain. She claimed hotdog chili was too spicy. Her ideal dinner was one crispy fried chicken wing, a handful of boiled canned green beans and a small baked potato with a little butter and a slice of bread

I remember the time I first decided to get brave and daring with my steak at a restaurant. It was the Bonanza in Danville, VA. I was probably around 12 and ordered it medium (I'm a medium rare person now). I cut into it, and it had that perfect thin strip of pink running through it. My aunt took one look at it; then she looked at me and asked, "Do you want me to have them take it back and cook it some more for you?" She was also the woman who taught me that adding butter to canned pork and beans elevated it to a gourmet dish. That woman cooked the best butter beans and pound cakes with thick caramel frosting.

I once went to a fancy steakhouse with coworkers for a holiday treat. One of my supervisors asked for some ketchup for his filet steak and you could see the waiter dying a little inside. Another coworker asked why there was a steak with her Surf & Turf. She didn't understand the concept of a Surf & Turf (gal was dumber than a box of rocks, I'll be honest) and when the menu said "filet" she thought that meant a fried fish fillet. She kept asking the waitstaff if they had any "nice fried fish" on the menu. I slipped them a generous tip for putting up with those two morons. I don't work with them anymore.

I always find it kind of hilarious how pro chefs go through all the trouble of making a dish as complex and fancy looking as possible even though it’s just going to get torn into. Also, normal people’s palates aren’t nearly so complicated as stuffy food snobs, so yeah, this is probably how it would go. Chefs would have to challenge themselves not to try so hard.

There is a value in a certain amount of presentation. Breakfast cereals don't need to be all kinds of bright colors either, but it looks better than a uniform corn flour color. Pancakes taste the same however you shape them, but it's still fun to conjoin them into a Micky Mouse shape and draw a face with toppings. As for fancy food, presentation and service are half the reason for eating out. No food is worth high end-prices by itself, especially in the portions fine dining tends to give.
@crystalh4502 жыл бұрын
@@diegoskitchenlab6824 that's true but to be fair a lot of those cooking shows have the chefs only cook steak medium rare and that isn't to everyone's taste. I can sympathize with that, but putting it in the microwave instead of on a grill was wrong. I am personally more of a medium well girl and to me the medium rare doesn't look appetizing. I realize I might be in the minority, but other than that, his food looked pretty good. I think it is funny because a lot of those cooking show judges don't often represent what regular people think or like a lot of times. I am not sure I would say it is fish sticks and crinkle fries, but sometimes they seem a bit over the top and not everyone likes things with truffle sauce and whatnot.
