Dude, most of us allow our kids to grow up, and watching things like this is part of it. "Protecting" your kids can do more harm than good. The good Doctor has shown the wilder, wider world of the imagination to generations of British children.

Doctor Who isn't classed as a kids show. It is considered a family show, something kids and adults can watch. The Sarah Jane Adventures is a kids show and Torchwood is an adult show

Torchwood was an children's show written for adults. I enjoyed it but it was very weird. The writing was like a kids show but it had blood and a sex scene in every episode so we all knew it was for adults.

I'm 55 and remember Dr Who right back to Jon Pertwee. I can tell you it's always been "scary," Like many people my age, I used to watch episodes with the Daleks etc from behind the sofa/a cushion.

Hello Alan. British kids were encouraged to expand their minds early and be tough. Think of the "Are you my mummy?" episode. Actually it is nice to know there are kids out there who are able to just be kids. I remember having to know to look for a bomb under the car and where not to go to stay away from any potential terrorist threats back in 1970s, from being small. Such as Dr Who and The Outer Limits were a brilliant escape from reality.

Doctor Who has been scaring children since the second story, back in 1963, but it's a lot harder to traumatize children than you might think, if they are old enough to even remember an episode by their bed-time, they know it's not real. Parents wrote lots of letters to the BBC complaining about scaring thier children, but the children had fun talking about the most recent episode or, imitating the most recent monster on the way to, during breaks at, and on the way home from school (I know I did as a 10/11 year old, at least I think I did, it's so long ago now).

You want to check out 'Sapphire & Steel' - 'kids' programme, it was aired early evening, 7ish. I was 10/11 when it started & tried to watch it again a couple of years ago, too bloody scary. There is an upcoming episode, in series 3, that took me right back to kid me & classic Dr Who hiding behind a cushion (our sofa was up against the wall so you couldn't hide behind that😄)

It’s very gratifying to see that you already understand the rhythm and grandeur of the scripts. And about the program being children's, I confess that I started the series discouraged knowing this. But when I saw that first episode where they subtly show that man dying with a bullet in the face in front of his own family, I couldn't believe it. I realized that they really go to the limit of what can be shown. And even without ever showing blood, we feel the lurking death and all the fatality of it and all the other difficult themes. I look forward to the next episodes, peace!

I was literally born in the 60s and even back then there were episodes of Dr Who that scared people of all ages silly. My earliest memories of DW are of the second generation of the Dr(Patrick Troughton) although my older sister tells me that I watched the programme from the very beginning and the earliest monsters that used to scare me into hiding behind the furniture were the YETIS or Abominable Snowmen, because to my infant mind aliens or creatures from other planets or robots, were all just invented for the story and cavemen or Aztec warriors were a part of history, but Yetis had been a part of folklore that some people claimed to have seen but there was no proof of existence and to me that made it possible that they did exist and could appear on the television in a show or maybe even on the news.

totally agree with @taniaPBear, When the original series released it was for kids, but the reboot was far more encompassing, the story lines are fascinating, it amazes me how they continue to come up with them and very rarely ever cover the same ground again. Cant wait for you to get to "Dont Blink" but thats quite a bit in your future.

My daughter was encouraged to watch anything and everything. She always self censored. America, the land of the free, believe in censorship, the land where people wander around with guns, sometimes shooting children. I really don't want British kids growing up with these American sensibilities. Thank god for British TV, where often conflicts and drama aren't solved by the gun. Imagine, a whole series, where the hero is anti guns and violence. Doctor Who PERFECT FOR children.

Absolutely everything is possible in DW - there's not really anything you can compare this show to - it is in the "box" sci-fi and it kind of is and is not as well somehow. It is futuristic and historical and actual, philosophical and emotional, sad and funny, heartbreaking and ridiculous, and completely crazy sometimes and if you think about it, it is absolutely bonkers to mix all this together because how could something so completely chaotic work... but... man does it work!

Ah, Fear Her... this episode wasn't originally intended to be used in Series 2. The originally planned episode, written by Stephen Fry, would have been too expensive to make. But an interesting fact is that the episode writer, Matthew Graham, also co-created Life on Mars for the BBC whose protagonist, Sam Tyler, was named after Rose.
@frufruJ
@frufruJ 11 ай бұрын
And Sam Tyler is played by... an actor who appears in Season 3 of DW. There were more coincidences regarding the timelines of the two shows, but I don't remember them any more. I've read a fanfic in which Sam Tyler was unknowingly that character from Doctor Who, even insinuated that he might be related to Rose because the years kinda match. It was fun. Life on Mars is great.

I might just have to reevaluate this episode. I really enjoyed watching you enjoy this. Next couple of episodes are, to coin a phrase, mad as a box of frogs. Though things get borderline epically daft in the second episode once the *e*e*i* a** is activated. The first episode has a killer cliffhanger that surprisingly was spoilered by the press back in 2006.

I'm not sure why fans don't like this one , it's an interesting concept with a mystery to be solved , maybe a bit cheesy in places and it was made well before the Olympics so a lot of details are wrong . Your reactions are always interesting , the new Dr Who was in the traditional Saturday evening slot , about 6pm before the entertainment shows and has always been family viewing . Realising some episodes weren't suitable for very young kids the Sarah Jane Adventures began on the Children's BBC channel ( shame we lost School Reunion ) . I don't think Fear her is one of the best but it's ok. You might like to check out some of the 80/ 90s Public information film compilations some of which were aimed at children .

It absolutely is fine for kids, everyone really needs to stop being so precious about their children, we're creating a generation of weak willed little spoilt brats, the world is a harsh place and shielding them from every little thing is beyond unhealthy. Personally I was never scared of Dr Who as a kid but I was watching stuff like Evil Dead and Alien as a little kid, not saying that's for everyone but it did me no harm afaik.

Possibly the vety shitiest post 2005 relaunch episode of DW. I try rewatching it on DVD every 2 or 3 years and can never finish it. Actually series 2 is probably the weakest of all "New Who" series until Jodie's first season which my entire family stopped watching about half way through the "ain't racism bad, eh evil white people?" episode Rosa. With a couple of exceptions we haven't watched a new episode since.
