Sounds like my American college (NOT prep school)experience in a nutshell. International students esp have that problem. It's hard to tell whether an American is really interested in you or just polite. I think the Korean language approach is actually good in this sense. It has a high power-distance style with honorifics and suffixes relating to age, position, and also closeness so you know how close you and the other person are based on your language so you won't misunderstand someone polite and friendly as really wanting to get close to you.

I agree with the statement. My ex-Godbrother had the audacity to ghost me. He wasn't just a friend. He was my Godbrother. He was the only one for me when I had depression and suicide ideation. I had a failed attempt in his home with his knife. He was still in touch with me 2 years after I moved back to my home country but then ghosted me. My mum said he's probably having a hard time himself but I checked his Fb and he did have fun. I was still very mentally ill but surprisingly managed to not get upset about it, told myself he's not worth it and moved on. He could at least tell me he could no longer deal with my depression and then cut off contact. I guess he'd rather ghost me than be upfront, so much for a 40 year-old Ivy League graduate. I deleted him from my Fb friendlist without blocking and he never added me back.

Usually this is a line used by people who can’t give or willing to give to anyone, they don’t want people to have any expectations from them. Its like they use it as an excuse to justify their ignorance. Sure if you do something for someone, you care for them, you do right to them but eventually same person starts to ignore your or even insults you because they don’t want you anymore. Then there is a problem, truth is that nobody wants to be disrespected by the person that you cared for. Sure don’t give them anything in return but atleast don’t make their efforts look worthless. When it comes to me, i always tell people they can expect me to be there for them in their good and bad, and when some one give me one, i thank them by giving them 10. I’ve bee ghosted recently and it’s killing me, tbh. The longer it goes on, the more confused I feel. I had several really good dates with somebody. Then one day of no contact turns into almost a month and I have no idea why. I didn’t do anything wrong, there was no hint, clue or suggestion this would happen...and it absolutely sucks. You want to keep asking questions and to try and get a response but at the same time you know you should probably leave it and let this bird fly away. It’s difficult as I only had really good times with this person....I know they had a good time too. It hurts your pride, self esteem and confidence. I don’t even hate this person or have negative feelings towards them...I just wish I knew why they felt like I could be dropped like I didn’t matter and with no consideration for how it might feel. If I was an arsehole or rude to them, or we argued or didn’t get on then maybe I could begin to accept and understand being ghosted...but it was the complete opposite.

It was more of a summer fling thing not a relationship but still we had hung out a lot and I thought we were both having a good time then I just get left on read randomly. With texting you'll always be wondering if she just hasn't checked her phone yet, or if her phone died, or she left it in her car and hasn't noticed yet, or if she took some time to think of how to respond and then fell asleep, OR if she doesn't want to talk to you. You always think there's a chance that there's an explanation why they haven't texted you back other than they just don't like you, and it sucks being strung along like that and sitting around waiting for a text that's never gonna come. (Don't do that btw)

@@slabua This is why I don't text people I have a crush on anymore. I just call them and if they don't answer, leave a message telling them what you wanted to say and to call you back. If they don't call you back, MOVE ON. If she's not interested in you, you'll never convince her to be interested in you. Trying to get someone that doesn't like you is a waste of time, and it makes you miss opportunities with other girls that maybe WILL like you cos you're so focused on a girl that doesn't even like you.
