If I'm recalling it correctly the reason the effort to clone and revive Horus failed is that they basically revived a PRE-FALL version of Horus with the understanding that he could just be corrupted again. He did not take that well and they had to kill him. I might be wrong on that though.

Fabius stole Horus’ corpse, which earned the ire of his legion so they attacked Biles base. I don’t quite know why Bile cloned Horus but the clone attacked the Black Legionaries and was killed by abaddon(can’t remember how to spell it) after recognizing Abby as his son and lowering his weapon. You might be thinking of Ferrus Manus. Fulgrim had Bile clone Ferrus multiple times in order to corrupt him to chaos, presumably out of either wounded pride for his failure to turn him before Isstvan orshame for his brothers death. But all the clones turned out loyal and attacked Fulgrim when he tried to recruit them.

To answer the Primarch vs Custodes bit, it can be summarised as 10 guardsman=1 space marine, 5 marines = 1 grey knight, 3-5 grey knights = 1 custodes and 3-5 custodes = a primarch. Of course it differs for individual like for Logan Grimnar and Valdor who has been confirmed to beat Horus in a sparring match

In terms of the Custodes vs Primarch, let's not forget Malcador. A standard human psyker, I mean as far technicalities, since he's not a tube baby. Malcador was the one to put the Primarchs in there place when they got too rowdy when the Emperor wasn't looking. I know he is a VERY special case, but the Custodes are also very special cases themselves. So could a Custodes be a match for a Primarch? Depends on who is who. If it takes a day to say the Custodes' name, I think he could take on any of them.

Personal theory: It's nuts because this Proteus Protocol could actually have worked, maybe even regardless of Emps distrust of it. Karamazov is the Emperor in spirit and thus would act as a foundation to transfer the emperor's engramatic knowledge memories and experience with negligible, reduced or even nullified corruption due to the target body already having a suitable spiritual framework. But Just as everything hits the climax and all our good guys are down to set up a second wind, GW pulls the plug..

But - the next ep makes him even better, though to FULLY understand it, you should watch the fantasy roleplay game episode, it shows the fate of Custodisi after his banishment by the Emperor. It's not entirely necessary, but it does explain a change in his model.

Well there are minor differences. the Emperor destroyed Horus's soul completely. its gone. so even if you revive him. he won't really be Horus anymore. What they are talking about here is more like a soul transfer. but yes this apparently will mess you up good either way.
