Mercury is a toxic non metal (I think it's non metal) that was used in the Victorian era in the hat industry. Because of exposure to mercury, hatters suffered from mercury poisonings and a side effect of this was 'going mad' and so the creation of 'mad as a hatter' and the mad hatter were born. Edit: holy crap you guys are smart

Don’t forget it being used in thermometers! Being the only metal that is liquid at room temperature is pretty useful for chemistry and whatnot. Don’t worry, it’s illegal now. Suuuuuuuuuuuper illegal. We use a different compound now.
@Exquailibur Жыл бұрын
Part of what makes mercury dangerous is bioaccumulation, basically mercury tends to stay inside any living creature it ends up in so it naturally accumulates in predatory animals like sharks, tuna, and sea eagles. This is also why mercury poisoning is hard to cure since it stubbornly refuses to leave the body, most mercury compounds work slowly like that but some like methylmercury can kill very quickly with only skin contact. I also have the good fortune of sharing a name with this stuff, its pretty great honestly.

Update: This was actually Sarin gas and not Anthrax! My bad. Fun fact: There was also an Anthrax attack on a Tokyo subway by a religious cult group. A member of the group went onto the train with a stack of news paper which contained two plastic baggies of Anthrax. He poked a hole through one of the bags, missing the other, with his umbrella before exiting the train. Soon people began violently coughing and walking around the train, kicking around and spreading the fluid from the bag. Now the Tokyo trains were intensely clean so news quickly reached management about the litter and people were sent to clean it up, only to find people gasping and coughing for air. Many many people died that day and the group was caught for these actions and discovered to have a secret lab for creating a lot of anthrax.

Some HCs for your poison characters cause they're really interesting: - Cyanide and 210 both work for the same hitman industry. Cyanide is jealous of 210 for being used in more official cases and for being so effective in low doses (cyanide is naturally occuring in apple seeds and almonds, 210 is synthesised). 210, meanwhile, really doesn't care for Cyanide - while she aknowledges Cyanide's usefulness, she's quick to dismiss it as a poor man's way out (as 210 is usually used for very official cases) - Arsenic used to work for the hitman industry but has since retired. He still gets pulled onto some cases though, and is always willing to take more - Anthrax also works at the industry, mostly just as a messenger. They tend to be quite reserved. Neither Cyanide, 210 or Arsenic know what their deal is. So far, Anthrax hasn't been promoted further due to their lack of mass-scale hits, but they're quitely waiting for that day to come. Maybe. Hard to tell with them - TTX and Botulinum are friendly with each other (both make the sufferer aware and are less humanoid) but don't talk often as TTX usually is reserved and keeps to themself - Sometimes Botulinum and Arsenic talk make-up and beauty standards. Neither are quite sure why they are/were used but are very happy about the potential death they may cause - Foxglove is a little bit ghostly, she can make herself invisible and can hover for a short period of time. She's also very afraid of the other poisons, considering how deadly they are compared to herself - Main exception is Cyanide, which Cyanide despises (once again, naturally occuring in almonds and apple seeds). Somehow Foxglove managed to rope Cyanide into baking - Cyanide can actually bake really well - She's considering applying it to her hitman job - Watch out
@ToasterSloth2 жыл бұрын
I imagined that the foxglove was very rich and paid the other poisons to do things for her. I also imagined her to be ghostly though, and thatshe could hover. But I also imagined her to make deals with people, gain their trust, then make her hitmen take care of them (because Foxglove looks harmless).

@ambitionandtea11662 жыл бұрын
you might have already done this poison, but thallium is one of my favorites. i learned about it when watching the movie based off of agatha christie's the pale horse. it's colorless, tasteless, odorless and slow-acting. before the antidote was discovered, it was known as the poisoner's poison and the symptoms can often be mistaken for other ailments. some of the main symptoms or tell-tale signs of the poison are hair loss and peripheral nerve damage. recommend looking into it :)

An important thing to note is that this well known cyanide is hydrogen cyanide (HCN). Not all cyanides are poisonous the same way. A cyanide refers to a compound, a salt that contains the atom group (CN)^- that comes from the acid hydrogen cyanide. (I'm still a beginner so I might be wrong :v) Edit (2 months later): The most known cyanide poison is potassium cyanide KCN. HCN is also very toxic like lots of cyanides. KCN is a salt of HCN. I love your videos like always! :]

This is amazing! The characters are expertly creepy as they should be, and you did a lot of research for these different poisons. If you are planning on making a third part, you should look up Ricin, it's a poison that comes from the castor bean (a really common decorative plant in the United States), and is super accessible to the public due to how easy it is to produce.
@El1sL1n2 жыл бұрын
Its not entirely a poison, but if you do a part 3 could you do Sarin? Its not as popular and its more of a poisonous gas than an actual poison, but I really want to see your design of it! It's tasteless and odorless and can cause tremors, seizers, and hypothermia. Its super deadly and can cause death in mere minutes. I think it could be interesting to see the character you make for it!

Hi LavenderTown. I love your character designs. I also love how much research went into each of your designs. If you are going to do more deadliest poison characters, here are some of my recommendations.: Cinnabar - contains deadly amounts of mercury. The mercury is released in a gas form when heated. It was used in ancient cosmetics and antique oriental jewelry because of it's rich red color. Kohl - contains lead. Kohl, also known as Kajal, used in the middle east in traditional eye-liner products. Ancient Egyptians believed it warded off eye diseases. Belladonna - aka deadly nightshade. The plant gets it's toxicity from a substance called Tropane Alkaloids. There are many types of plants related to the Belladonna, such as the Atropa, Henbane, and the Mandragora. The Belladonna has been used in herbal medicines, cosmetics, as well as murders. This plant has been found in north Africa and Europe. Hemlock - The poison that the Greek philosopher Socrates drank when he died. Arconite - Known as "The Mother in Law's poison" in ancient Greece and Rome. Tubocurarine - Historically used to poison the tips of arrows and darts for hunting by South American Native tribes. It is made from a mixture of toxic plants. In the mid-1900's, it was used as an anesthetic during surgery to relax the muscles. Cardenolide - A plant based steroid. It is toxic because it inhibits the body functions that are responsible for maintaining sodium and potassium ions. This poison is known to be fast acting and cause cardiac arrest. As a medicine, plants with cardenolide has also been used to treat cardiac functions. In far east Asia, sap from plants that contain this poison was also used on the tips of arrowheads.

Hey, Lavendertowne! :D Your last video inspired me I tried to make a character based on Pink Oleander (Rose Laurel or Nerium). It's a shrub native through much of Europe, Asia, Africa (Hardiness level 8), and every part of the plant is highly toxic. It secretes a milky latex that can cause convulsions, rash, nausea/and gradually shuts down the nervous system in high enough quantities. The thing is- Oleander is used most commonly as a decorative plant. Apparently in small enough doses it's been used through traditional medicine to treat ulcers, heart and breathing problems, and stomach problems: but there's actually very little evidence to suggest it actually helped with anything. I think at one point, she may have been a Pretty Milk Maid living in someplace like the Queen's Hamlet at the Palace of Versailles, but... That's just the way I took it! I'm curious if you're going to continue doing this series, and can't wait until the next installment if you chose to continue!
