I wonder if he'd look at his Quran the same way and by those same standards? I guarantee you that if you showed him 4:82, then asked where those discrepancies reach a point where the text becomes unreliable, you'd find excuses, reinterpretations, dismissals, and red herrings til Ramadan ends. Why is Muhammad called the first Muslim in 6:14 and 6:163 when at the same time; Moses is called the first Muslim (7:143), Egyptians were noted to be the first Muslims (26:51), Abraham was the first Muslim (2:127-133, 3:67) and Adam was also the first Muslim? (2:37) These statements are either true or false and it's only one example. Allah forbids Muslims to marry idolatrous women in 2:221, calls Christians idolators and unbelievers in 9:28-31, and tells Muslim men they can marry Christian women. (5:5) The Quran claims creation was complete in six days in 7:54, 10:3, 11:7, and 25:59. Then also says in 41:9-12 that it took eight. The Quran claims the Earth was created before the Heavens (2:29) and also says Heaven was created before the Earth. (79:27-30) When compared to the contradictions leveled by Atheists and Muslims in the Bible, you'll either find the issue cleared up the next verse, a general statement made out to be absolute, they assume that because an event is recorded that God approved of it, or just a lack of understanding of cultural phrases. Where as in the Quran, absolute statements are put side by side and force us to make a choice. Either one or both is false. When will he apply his own standards to himself?

A very important point about those that were there and saw was that they believed it to the point of being put to death. They saw it first hand, not from someone else, so they knew it was no lie and proved that by their own deaths. No one would die for a lie. Not someone sane anyway. But these were many many people put to death with first hand experiance to the truth of what they saw. If they knew it was not true they would have not died, not as a first hand witness. Today in all religions people die for their faith, but not on a mass scale as first hand witnesses as it was for the first century church. They saw the truth, even to gladly give their lives for it, and they did. It is the truth.

[citation needed] This is a commonly repeated claim by Christians, but there is no good evidence to back it up. Paul and Peter were ostensibly killed in Rome after the Great Fire under Nero. There is no good evidence that they were given a chance to recant their beliefs in order to avoid death. The Christians were just convenient scapegoats for Nero. James was killed by Ananus according to Josephus, but he doesn't give a reason why. Just that he was falsely accused of breaking the law, and that Ananus was insolent and had a temper.

what about contradictions against the trinity or the crucifixion of Jesus (A.S)?
@BringMeTheProof7 ай бұрын
Only groups to doubt the crucifixion of Jesus were early heretical gnostics and Muslims currently. 4:157 of Quran comes from the gnostic Gospel of Basilides written 5 centuries prior to Quran, in which the idea of a substitute on the cross was introduced. The crucifixion of a man named Jesus in 1st century Judea ordered by Pontius Pilate the governor under the rule of Tiberius is firmly established as historical fact in all academic circles. The trinity can be found throughout the entire Bible. If you're looking for the specific word "trinity" you won't find it, but the concept is well established by anyone who has studied the Bible. Opinions to the contrary are either misinformed or totally dishonest.

I’ll show you some errors.Anatomy of insects[edit] Leviticus 11:20-23 (NIV): All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be detestable to you. There are, however, some winged creatures that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground. Of these you may eat any kind of locust, katydid, cricket or grasshopper. But all other winged creatures that have four legs you are to detest. While some would see this as a scientific error, J.P. Holding has an "explanation":[3] Is this an error -- since insects have six legs, not four, and since "fowl" have two legs, not four? The reference to "fowl" is thought by some skeptics to refer to birds, but the word used here is 'owph, which merely means a creature with wings -- it is the same word used in verse 21 (flying). The reference in both cases is to insects. But there is an even better - and more correct - answer. Quite simply, the big back legs on the locust, etc. were not counted as "legs" in the same sense as the other legs. Let's use an illustration from our popular literature, George Orwell's Animal Farm. In this story, Snowball the pig invented the slogan, "Four legs good, two legs bad" so as to exclude humans from Animal Farm society. The geese and other fowl objected, because they had only two legs. Snowball explained (more clearly in the book than in the movie) that in animal terms, the birds' wings counted as legs because they were limbs of propulsion, not manipulation, as a human's arms and hands were. Now note the differentiation in Leviticus above -- referring to "legs above the feet" for leaping. The "feet" are being differentiated from the "legs above the feet" because of their difference in function. They are legs, but in a different sense than the "four" legs which are just called "feet." We are being told of two types of legs: The "on all four" legs (which are nowhere called legs; they are only called "feet" [v. 23]), and the "leaping legs." It is clear that the Hebrews regarded the two large, hopping hind limbs of the locust and the other insects of the same type, which are the only types of insects mentioned here (we now translate "beetle" as "cricket"), as something different than the other four limbs - perhaps because they were used primarily for vertical propulsion, whereas the other limbs were for scurrying around. (Shifts of terminology like this happen even today; check this proposal to redefine "planet".) What the above explanation so clearly misses is the fact that when the Bible mentions that “All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be detestable to you” [Group A] this group does not include those with leaping legs as shown by the fact that the very next passage states “There are, however, some winged creatures that walk on all fours that you may eat: those that have jointed legs for hopping on the ground.” [Group B] Now if the passages lacked the first half discussing Group A, evangelical apologists such as J.P. Holding may have some ground. But as the biblical text clearly differentiates Group A (those with no jointed legs) as separate to Group B (those with said jointed legs) and yet both groups are defined as having four legs, this argument can be of no defense. Even if J.P Holding were correct on the still unsubstantiated basis that the ancient Hebrews defined crickets and similar insects of Group B as having four typical legs and two "jointed legs" for leaping,that still would not explain the missing legs of the beetles and other non-leaping insects from Group A which are discussed separately.

Yes thats quite right but there are 3 possible sources of making a mistake when spotting an error. 1 A poor translation can create the appearance of an error that is not in the original language. I know of a few. 2. Historical "errors" that are later corrected when historians discover more about history. There was one "error" that lasted more than 2000 years before modern historians discovered that the Bible was right after all. Its about Babylon. 3. It looks like a error / contradiction to me, but turns out to be becasue I dont fully understand it yet. These reasons are why the speaker went to the ressurection of Jesus. He could also have mentioned that 11 of the 12 Apsotles were executed because they insisted Jesus was risen from the dead. If they were lying about the resurrection why not own up and live? Dr. Turek is being a bit obtuse when he says that just because you find "an error" in the Bible it doesn't mean you reject the truth in it. You shouldn't reject the truth in any book even if 90% of the book is full of errors. Assuming you know what the 90% errors are, and what the truth it. The point of saying there are errors in the Bible is that you can't independently verify truth, and if there are errors in the Bible you can't use the Bible to claim that things are true unless you independently verify them.

'If there are errors in the Bible, is Christianity false?' - What do you mean 'if'? The book is riddled with errors, contradictions, myth portrayed as history, immorality, as well as many parts being fabrications. In the NT great doubt is expressed by scholars as to the true authorship of Jude, James, 1 and 2 Timothy, 1 and 2 Peter, Colossians and Acts. The gospels are written long after the events described by non eye-witnesses. Only Mark is original as the others rely heavily on Mark. Mark has an ending added later and probably has been significantly altered over time as we have 2nd and 3rd century Christian writers quoting from Mark but using text that matches nothing in the Mark we have today. The gospel of Mark is written in fictional story format and includes events which are apocryphal and metaphorical (eg the withering of the fig tree). There is zero contemporary evidence Jesus even existed as a historical character. the Old testament started to be put together by the creation of the Pentateuch during the Babylonian exile. Previous to this the Hebrews were polytheistic and emerged from the Canaanite population of southern Judea (this fact honestly reported by Israeli archaeologists tasked with validating their countries claims, they resisted the great temptation to give their paymasters what they wanted and reported accurately what they found). The history put together in the Pentateuch (Abraham, Moses & the Exodus, Solomon etc) was a fictional new history (as shown by archaeology ) of the Hebrews created to support the new monotheistic Judaism emerging under the influence of Zoroastrianism. Later books of the Old testament were added ad hoc and some can actually be dated very accurately as fabricated, the classic example being Daniel (due to its 'predictions' going wrong halfway through). The creation story, cosmology, biology and other 'facts' given in the Bible are wholly wrong and entirely in keeping with the lack of knowledge of the primitive people who wrote the books. Moving to Islam, the Quran shows obvious signs of fabrication from Judaic and Ebionite scriptures, originally in Syriac and transcribed into proto Arabic. The book includes many references to the same invented Mosaic history. The origin of Islam is also clouded in mystery as there is no historic mention of Mohammed or Islam until well after the supposed date of the prophet's death (632 ad) and well after the rise of the first Arabic control of the Middle east after the decline of Christian (based in Constantiople) and Persian influence (references from the time describe the Arabs as believing either a form of Christianity (Ebionite) or Judaism). The four oldest known Qurans have some 2000 textual differences and the earliest quranic inscriptions in the first mosques (esp Dome of the rock) differ from anything in any modern Quran. I would welcome anyone interested to research this topic by reading the appropriate historical, archeological and linguistic research. I can provide copious references if asked (politely). Rude comments, threats of hell and damnation and preaching will either be ignored or ridiculed. Also if you wish to argue against anything I have said here be prepared to back it up with evidence, assertions without evidence are worthless and will also be ignored (Hitchen's razor applies)

Just because someone is caught in a lie, doesn't mean everything they say is a lie. If that was the case, we'd ALL be lying ALL the time. The Holy Spirit doesn't need a "book" to teach someone. A person can be in a tribe in a remote jungle in the world and still hear the "Holy Spirit". This is why many missionaries have come across isolated tribes that were engaging in moral codes; such as covering their genitals and practicing marriage, etc. HOW did they know to do that? Jesus' Holy Spirit is infinite. He doesn't need to rely on mans "writings" to teach us. Christians can't seem to understand this, and atheists are even worse at understanding it.

@@DixieDee Why are you bringing up science? That isn't what this discussion is about. "The Holy Spirit doesn't need a "book" to teach someone." Assuming this holy spirit exists, if what you say is true the Bible is not needed, and Christians don't need to work to spread the gospel. "A person can be in a tribe in a remote jungle in the world and still hear the "Holy Spirit". " Oh? Can you present evidence to support this claim? How exactly are you defining the term "holy spirit"? "This is why many missionaries have come across isolated tribes that were engaging in moral codes; such as covering their genitals and practicing marriage, etc. HOW did they know to do that? " They knew to do that because they are living in a society and when you are part of a society things go better when you follow certain customs. And they had those moral codes without the single god of the Bible, they had a pantheon off gods and goddesses. So you are telling us that they behaved morally without the need for the god of the Bible or the story of Jesus. "Jesus' Holy Spirit is infinite" Can you present anything to support that claim? "He doesn't need to rely on mans "writings" to teach us. Christians can't seem to understand this, and atheists are even worse at understanding it." The difference is science changes when and because new or better data is collected and tested. Religion, when confronted with errors relies on the 'taking it on faith" argument. The first thing that must be addressed is when one says mistakes or error you must mention what is false. See the Bible is a road Map to a treasure steps to take and people to follow it also has in it traps as any good map would only the worthy make it to the end read Daniel 12:10 so what you may think is an error is there for a reason. Who are you really is the question God is asking you? Jesus said this but in Romans it says something slightly different; Close but different. God said he would use Paul as a vessel to do his will. Acts 9:15 He has a will for the righteous and for the Unrighteousness. This Paul took to the Gentiles. Jesus and Moses said this, but I Paul say that, which will you choose? No error it’s a choice. Now read it again and you will see.

Mr. Sucho says: *"Science adjusts its views based on what's observed. Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved." - Tim Minchin.* Faith is NOT the denial of observation because science itself proves the bible is true when you view the evidence from the correct and proper perspective. Take evolution for example... The bible states that God created every creature according to its kind. So, now look at the evidence of evolution from the perspective of that. What does such a thing mean? It means that evolution is contained within an animal's kind. An example of this would be that all human species descended from Adam and Eve because they were the firsts of human kind that God created. Just keep things in their correct and proper perspective when you view the evidence and it proves the bible to be true.

We should base our walk with God on the guidance of His Holy Spirit and His Word, not the title of a denomination. I know many people from various denominations that follow what the Word of God says. I also know people from these same denominations who do not. I personally am a member of a Church of God. But I don't base my Christian walk on that title. Unfortunately there are differences in doctrines that are taught and that leads to divisions which I believe is a work of Satan to keep us divided. We should always line up what is being taught in church with what scripture says and let the Holy Spirit guide us in our understanding of His Word. Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1 Corinthians 1:10

Ow come on Kim, we've discussed plenty of time. The evidence is not there. And you know it. It doesn't matter what we "prefer", you believe something because the presented evidence is convincing. And religious teachings have not convinced me that they are true. So it requires evidence to back it up and the evidence is not there. I feel you are misrepresenting atleast the things I've discussed with you.
@evangelistkimpatrik5 жыл бұрын
Williams World View We have plenty of historical evidence, which is rejected by atheists. This is due to the fact that atheists are unaware of the evidence, or flat out reject it. And they never say what would convince them. I have come to the conclusion that no evidence is enough for an atheist.
@WilliamsWorldView5 жыл бұрын
@@evangelistkimpatrik Then you have reached the wrong conclusion, I would say. That which you call evidence doesn't directly lead to the conclusions you make. Jesus might have been a real person [edit: and evidence might support that], but that doesn't mean that the things contributed to him are actually true. Those are the things that need to be proven to even make the story plausible. Did Jesus feed 5000 people with 2 loafs of bread and 5 fish? I would like to see that done again. If it can't be done, then why should I believe Jesus did it? But Jesus isn't the reason why I don't believe in God. Genesis 1 has elements in there of which we know it isn't possible. Reading through Genesis 3, it clearly shows not Adam&Eve nore the Snake being the culprit, but God as the one who is responsible for the original sin. This goes against the character of God as it is taught So, starting at the beginning, nothing is as it is claimed to be. Which puts a huge dent in the credibility of religious teachings. Looking at what we know, looking at what we can test and research, none of what relgion teaches seems to be true. So why should I believe any of it?
@evangelistkimpatrik5 жыл бұрын
Williams World View God is responsible for creating beings with free will, angels and mankind. So I guess you could say he is responsible for sin, but that is stretching it. If God can create a universe then he is certainly capable of creating food. We are not gods that can do that. I really don’t know how you could test religion. We have to rely on historical information. If history does not qualify as evidence then we have to accept that nothing will convince you. Perhaps if you have a dream of Jesus would do it? Or a vision...
@WilliamsWorldView5 жыл бұрын
@@evangelistkimpatrik Not all historical evidence is the same. The historical evidence you talk about (eye-witness reports) can not be verified. As far as I know, none of the eyewitnesses were interviewed, it was stories of stories of people who claimed to be there. Unless you have 500 verified statements of people of whom it can be verified they were there when Jesus showed himself after the resurrection, then that evidence is circumstancial and could just as well be hearsay. So, then you would require other evidence. Tangible evidence to support the eye-witness reports. And that evidence does not exist. The human brain responds to chemical imbalance. Haluciogenics can do that. A dream of Jesus is not evidence, it can be influenced by chemical imbalance. I once halucinated due to flu (I had a 104 temp) so I was seeing things that were not there. The point I was making with God being responsible for the fall of man, I meant a direct deliberate action to cause the fall of man. Basically God set up Adam and Eve to fail. If God is allknowing and all powerfull, then that is the only conclusion possible. God mad the tree of knowledge and its fruit available, he made the snake able to deceive them and prior to the snake doing so, God knew it was going to happen and he did nothing to stop it from happening (And he could have without infringing free will of Adam, Eve and the Snake) Also, I think we've discussed this before. If God exists and he is allknowing, then there can not be free will. That is impossible. God always controls everything including someones will, through manipulation. Example: Looking at a woman in lust. This is a form of mindcontrol. You are told you can not have lustfull toughts and if you do, you are a sinner who will be punished. With the threat of punishment, you refrain from lustfull thoughts and thus you are manipulated from having these thoughts. This leaves your free will compromised.

Well I am a Christian who reads the Bible, prays and goes to Church but there are some contradictions in the Bible I have noticed. The new testement of the Bible is just eye witnesses of Christ who wrote down what he said and did. In any situation with witnesses, you listen to each account and see what they have all said the same and criticize and conclude what they have said differently. So not every single word in the Bible is the word of God but the Bible has a core meaning, that is the word of God and which is found to have prevailed and is true. So there are contradictions in the Bible but the core meaning is still that there is a Holy Trinity, Jesus died for your sins and God loves you. Everything in the Bible should be taken with a pinch of salt and you need to remember that there is no Bible in it's original form but the meaning has kept the same.

I agree with the notion that just because there’s errors in the bible doesn’t make it not true. If u were expecting a book that was written at least 30 years after the fact, through word of mouth by people interviewing alleged eye witnesses, translated through multiple language barriers by illiterate, superstitious people living in a remote part of the Middle East not to have contradictions or errors- you’re crazy... It does make u reevaluate the accuracy of it and why a god would make the single most important event in history so obscure, but it doesn’t make it not true. Looking at the claim itself is how one should evaluate it. I’m much more inclined to believe a war took place with two contradicting figures of participants in it than a consensus on a claim such as someone rising from the dead... What people need to understand is that the simple word or bronze aged, superstitious savages writing with an intended bias in a remote part of the Middle East where they all believed in demons, magic and other supernatural nonsense- is NOT ENOUGH TO SUBSTANTIATE THE CLAIM THAT SOMEONE ROSE FROM THE DEAD. That requires more evidence than just the claim that a bunch of people saw it- non contemporary accounts I might add.

Again if you want to argue against the Bible from the Bible...use it correctly. Where does the Bible tell us we were made broken? Because literally ZERO Christians believes we we're originally made broken.

There are several major problems with his explanation. 1. We don't know that the church "exploded" out of Jerusalem. We don't know how fast it grew. 2. Converts outside of Jerusalem were obviously _not_ witnesses to the resurrection, nor did they have access to proof or disproof. 3. We don't know that there was an empty tomb that people could visit. Did Paul ever speak of an empty tomb that people could visit? And if there was, and people were convinced by this, then they were convinced for bad reasons. It is trivially easy for a tomb to become empty for mundane reasons, with or without intentional deception.

Oh a red herring, thrown out to see if we could get the old faith verses works debate going again. Paul the equivalent of 3 phds verses James the just, who would have all be Jews. Saved by faith not works that any should boast. Or Faith without works is dead. Am I under the law or is it grace. Can add to what Jesus did? Or is it the just shall live by faith. We all need to look at these arguments work them out because there is a point at which Paul and James are right or what do you do with Jesus's teachings. Obedience, trust, following him, etc. It isn't as simple as the dogmas that come from these arguments. Rightly diving the word of truth by our own mind sometimes takes more work then we want to do in this microwave culture we live in. We argue, no wonder the unbelievers scratch their heads while we do an in house debate. Their are seeming contradictions our atheist contributors just call contradiction. Get out of either or and try both and. It isnt the law, but works will come out of faith. A changed heart and a surrendered believer will be picking up his cross and following Jesus. What did he say? Love God with all your heart, strength, mind, and your neighbor as yourself. And with these two all the commandments are contained. Sorry if I paraphrase. I have to watch myself for cheap grace, not be a legalist looking at others, and continually do as Paul admonished, examine myself to see if I am in the faith. God bless you my brothers, love you, now continue your debate.

Frank, God bless you! That was exactly the right answer to this gentleman's question. Let's say you find some trivial error in the Bible. So frickin' what? That doesn't change the fundamental truth of Christianity. Fundamentalists and Atheists are effectively the same religion: they both agree that the Bible is either 100% True, or it's 100% Nonsense. As a former atheist, when I became a Christian I knew I wasn't just going to read my atheist books in a mirror and call it the Gospel. The only Word of God is Jesus (John 1:1). The Bible is without a doubt the best attested historical record of the 1st century, but that doesn't make it a miraculous Christian Qur'an.

The Word of God is Jesus (John 1:1). Nowhere does the New Testament call itself "the Word of God." Just look at any fly-by-night "Bible Church" and its statement of basic beliefs; I'll almost guarantee you that Point #1 is "We believe in the Bible" and Point #2 is "We believe in God." A "high view of Scripture" is idolatry and Bible worship. The Bible is sufficient; it is not an infallible Paper Pope or a miraculous Christian Qur'an.

For the mere fact that they were written one after another and the later copied from the previous one . The best way to preserve a holy book is the example of Quran. Which relies on oral preservation through many many people memorizing the whole book. Just like hit songs how remain the same all the time and no one can come and change the lyrics of it, because people will notice. For example Staying Alive, Eye of the tiger, Un break my heart, Billie Jean, Smells like teen spirit or even the national anthem or the pledge of allegiance etc.

There's errors in the Bible because of translation. But we have more than just the Bible as a testimony of Christ. We also have the Book of Mormon. The crowning event of the Book of Mormon is when Jesus Christ visits the people in the Americas, and tells them they are the other sheep he had told his Apostles and disciples in Jerusalem (3 Nephi 16: 1-3). True there might be errors in the Bible, but now we have two nations bearing witness that Jesus Christ was crucified, and he was resurrected. Testifying to the world he is the Savior of the World.

@@jackcrawley7613 no there is many contradictions and many errors, but they are the errors of man. When God spoke to Adam, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and all of His holy prophets. They spake the true word of God as it was delivered to them from God Himself. And they were all commanded to teach all of God's children the Commandments of God. But they couldn't teach all of them at once so they were also commanded to write it down. Regretfully the technology and knowledge of man is so very limited and many things have been lost. And with so many errors in the Bible it could be very easy for someone to be confused. So how can we know for ourselves what God is talking about? Prayer. Ask God Himself. Honestly if you believe that God is infinitely righteous and holy and we are imperfect sinful people who do not deserve nor could earn Gods eternal and everlasting Kingdom that we would approach God by our own “self righteousness” and think that we could be good enough and that our evil thoughts/deeds/spoken words are not worthy of banishment from God for which we NEED the Savior who was/is perfect/sinless to pay the debt of sin once and for all so that Gods justice and love remain perfect and is demonstrated righteously which is where you will find Christ Jesus on the cross where both are demonstrated in perfection and that He rose from the dead thereby defeating death and sin for us so that we could be made righteous having no sin go unpunished and that all sin was punished and paid in full in Christ that we may enter into Gods eternal and everlasting Kingdom by Gods grace/love/mercy through faith in the Son Jesus Christ who paid the full debt for us! The crusades were a counter attack to Muslim invasion. Most people tend to fight back when they are being attacked. It was not a mission to spread the message of Jesus. And just because people say something doesn't mean it's true. If I call myself a king, does it automatically make me a king? if I call myself an engineer, do I automatically qualify? Same goes for Christians and followers of Jesus, just because you claim to be a christian, doesn't automatically make you one. It says in the bible: "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits." Judge Jesus by his works and his life, not by people who claim this or that. God bless you in the name of Yeshua the anointed one (Jesus the Christ).

Turek went way off the reservation in answering the question. The original 12 disciples were not Christians before the Pentecost in Acts, because they were very carnal in their thinking and often failed to understand and apply a lot of the spiritual principles Jesus tried to instill in them. It wasn't until they received the Spirit that they finally understood everything Jesus told them and became the first Christians. Paul plainly stated in Romans 8:9 that a Christian is someone who has, and is led by, the Spirit in them. It's also false that there were thousands of Christians during Jesus' ministry because they were mostly expecting Jesus to depose the Romans and become the prophesied ruler of Israel immediately . The Pentecost account in Acts makes it abundantly clear that Jesus only had 120 actual followers up to that point, and even then they were just as carnal in their thinking. God chooses who is to become a Christian in this age before they ever choose to follow Him, so it's not as simple as just acknowledging Jesus' existence. A person without the Spirit of God is not going to understand, accept, or apply the truths of God.
@sonofnun19175 жыл бұрын
Everything you said is true and biblical. But Frank wouldn't agree with it because he denies that regeneration precedes faith. You are correct in that the Holy Spirit is the one who gives life by removing the heart of stone and giving someone the heart of flesh. Frank turek, william lane craig, andy stanley, and the vast majority of mainstream christian apologists give lip service to God choosing who he will save and who he will not, but in reality they don't actually believe that God is completely sovereign because they leave it up to man as the ultimate deciding factor of whether a person has faith - instead of what the bible tells us, which is that "no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up on the last day."
