Excellent recap as usual. Why I enjoy your channel over all others is because after a player resigns, you don't stop there. With the remaining pieces, you show the checkmate sequence. I was so wanting to know how Magnus could win the game with only his king and 2 pawns. To my knowledge you are the only one who does this.

Indeed rumor has that Magnus training in endgame is the stuff of legend. The rumor is that as soon as his father established that Magnus not only had uncommon aptitude for the game but his son was indeed serious about sacrificing towards the holy grail of chess, he packed the car and took his son to Gamvik, leaving his mother crying alone at the kitchen table (for she knew she might never see her son again) Once there, Magnus underwent endgame training by having to memorize appropriately presented endgame puzzles and solving them. This was done by showing him the position for 2 seconds and then dropping him tied upside down from the pier of Gamvik village into the cold water. Magnus then had to hold his breath and solve the puzzle. Once he had solved it, he tugged a rope, to get back up. If he was wrong, his father dropped him back in until he stopped moving and then pulled him up and revived him using a defibrillator. Then one day a strange thing happened. The fish in the water started helping Magnus out. It is not clear how this was done or how his father figured it out, but when he did he changed the venue by tying Magnus to a tree and releasing an angered reindeer straight at him. However Magnus made friends with the reindeer as well, and so then his father had to take drastic measures to ensure his son would be able to win without any help whatsoever, so he just defibrilated him to death anyway and revived him. If coming back to life did not help Magnus solve the puzzle, he was defibrillated to death and revived again until he did. It was not torture. Magnus could have said I quit anytime, and it all would be over. Another unconfirmed rumor, is that following the Magnus Nieman controversy, Hans was told part of this story. He hasn't swam in water since and is right terrified of bathtubs too.

I really love how some position would be agreed to be a draw by other grandmasters but if you put magnus as one of the players, he would still find some winning chances even if it's a dead draw. he's so confident to push for the win because he knows he isn't gonna be the first one to make a mistake. Magnus really squeezed every drop of water on stone here.

The irony of giving up a pawn when you didn't have to - Pragg gave up the pawn because he didn't want to spend time thinking other lines. But giving up a pawn unnecessarily means entering an inferior endgame where you have to spend more time finding ONLY MOVES to save the game.

I think Pragg learned a lot from that endgame.

There's a lack in quality as the quote and the elo are wrong(credits to others in the comments). We prefer quality over quantity. Take your time, Antonio ❤

end game with a very short time, maybe Magnus and Hikaru are kings, but Pragg is still 18 years old, someday he can be in top 3

I agree that Nxf7 is the best move, but the only winning move?? I chose Nb5 and the computer thinks that it's mate in 25 (versus mate in 23 for Nxf7). Somebody please correct me if my computer reference is wrong or inaccurate.

5:24 I don't understand why black can't just take the rook here and then the knight. White can't capture the queen because black captures the other rook and it's checkmate. And even if it weren't, the black queen is defended.
