Oh Johnno, Johnno, if anyone ever needs an example of what an explorer vessel is, just look at this beauty. It shouts "Explorer". Not like the come day/go day fibre glass gin palaces pretending to be expedition yachts. For me, first impressions count and i look at this boat and think yup, it does what it say's on the tin. I think it maybe because i subconsciously like the fact that it looks quasi military and as you know their designs are all about function with very little form. With a few interior adjustments, (well you know me by now), i would happily buy this or have it as a blueprint for having one built. Great find Johnno, more please.

I very much thank you for posting this video... listening to your narrative I felt propelled into what it must be like, not to be a guest, but an actual seafaring owner couple exploring together or from time-to-time with friends various ports, this beautiful world has to offer. Then my mind went to those Spanish explorers heading across the Atlantic for the first time, no charts, only stars in the sky to guide their wooden, creaky, boats no less... I do not mean to say that modern explorer yacht's owners don't experience the same adventure, but one has to admit, sailing under wind power only, without charts, radar, weather radar, and weather radio updates, into the uncharted unknown, must have been (if they survived) the most incredible truly extreme sports "rush." ;)

I really like your content. You provide info that manufactures won’t. I very much enjoy explorer yachts and I like to do research on what my hypothetical future yacht would look like. In my opinion to fully explore by water, you should be able to explore below and above water. Meaning you should able to have access to a sub and helicopter. According to this video, it seems you can cross oceans safely with a helicopter on deck, not only in a hanger. So thank you for this great info and keep up you great work.

I'd run her at 10 knots. For me, getting there is half the fun, plus, think of the increased range.
@YachtBuoy2 жыл бұрын
I reckon that running her at ten knots would probably add another 750-850 nautical miles?

what's not to like- probably reasonably priced if she hit the market, absolute classic design, perfect size imho, 30 years old would scare some ppl off but not the ones who know what going on.

I would like to know why almost none of these Yachts use controllable pitch propellers. The benefits should far outweigh the costs. Naval ships have proven that for 50 plus years. What is your opinion? As a Royal Navy Vet you know what I am talking about.
@YachtBuoy2 жыл бұрын
That’s a good question! The only thing that I can think of, is that private vessels perhaps don’t need the benefits which CPP’s bring? The increased manoeuvrability, the better performance when shifting from Ahead to astern etc. This sort of boat handling would probably be too ‘harsh’ for superyacht owners etc.
@mrsportfish89872 жыл бұрын
The explorer yacht Dorothea III has one. Incredible yacht. It's the smallest vessel at 150' that has variable pitch set up. Capt. Crupi says its an incredible system.
@tonyciriello68722 жыл бұрын
@@mrsportfish8987 That's awesome. I will look for it. I remember in the early 90's there was a prop company that made variable pitch props for outboard motors. It worked by RPM and started at a low pitch and as RPM increased a spring and cam system would change to a higher pitch. Sounded like a good idea. Wonder what ever happened to that company. It just disappeared.
