I had that pink cell phone. Oh I loved it. My phone broke because it fell out of my pocket while I was on stage and fell into the orchestra pit. My parents let my baby sister (6 yr old) pick it out cause she said it was a Barbie phone and I like girl things.

I actually agree with Lorelai that she can't play the mom card at this point, because Rory is too grown for that and she has tthe right to figure things out and make her own mistakes. Even if her mom doesn't think dating is for her, she find out herself once she tried it. I do also agree with you though that Lorelai IS her mom, and she should have BEEN a mom and not a friend when Rory was younger.

I don't understand why does Lorelai say that Rory's on her own? She's not even 21 yet, she doesn't have a job, so l assume Lorelai gives her money to buy food, clothes etc. She doesn't have her own place to live either, so she has to come home to Lorelai when she's not in college. (I know that she eventually moves in with her grandparents, I'm just talking about this specific moment in the story.)

Lorelei would never use the power of Rory’s financial needs over to try to control her. Lorelei had her own parents do that too much. So even though there is still some dependence from Rory on Lorelei that’s not the kind of mom card Lorelei would want to use for good or for ill. Especially, especially around Rory’s dating life.

@@naomil7830I’m not saying Lorelai should try to control Rory with these things, I’m just curious why Lorelai’s saying Rory’s on her own. It doesn’t seem like it to me. (But it’s not really important, it’s just something I noticed during my latest rewatch.)

@ ah gotcha :-) maybe it’s a comment that shows how much Lorelei is missing Rory and feels more distant from her since Rory moved away to college.
