I remember I used to take this test called the FCAT. From 3rd through 10th grade, not once did I pass the FCAT Reading exam. I disliked it so much. Always taking Intensive Reading. I love my Intensive Reading teachers. It’s not their fault the exam system isn’t fair. Just because I fail the FCAT Reading, doesn’t mean I suck at reading. Everyone I knew in high school knew my struggles with the FCAT, and every year I would meet my Principals, Counselors, etc. and always having to move me forward, regardless if I failed the FCAT. But 11th grade, I told them, “I WILL PASS IT. You’ll see!! And I will celebrate all over the school when I do”. So in 11th grade, I knew it needed to end. I didn’t want to take it anymore times. I didn’t want to take that class one more time, and even my Intensive Reading Teacher from 9th - 11th grade was hoping I passed. So the day came where I had to take FCAT Reading once again. And halfway through I was hyperventilating, and losing blood-flow, simply put, I had an anxiety attack during the exam. My teacher who was there to monitor us on taking the exam, took notice, and I asked if it was ok for me to step out. My teacher said sure. Gave me a water bottle, and this amazing Nature Valley Oats & Honey Bar. Then he said just turn off the monitor, step out and go wash up. In the past, this was how I failed the other times before. Me either falling asleep or panicking to get it over with. I needed at least 10 minutes to myself without the exam. I looked at myself in the mirror, and I told myself, “NO MORE”. I washed my face, and then went back to that room, and continued the FACT Reading Exam. A week later, I said Hi to my Intensive Reading teacher, and he said with no celebratory fanfare, “Hey btw you passed”. The years of struggling, the years of frustration, the years of anxiety, the emotional baggage I kept on my shoulders, disappeared. For the first time since I was 7 years old, I felt beyond accomplished in something. I jumped up and down. Running around the school campus. I yelled that I passed to the sky. All my high school buddies cheered for me. And on my iPod played one of my favorite songs of all time “Sweet Victory” from SpongeBob. A friend saw it on my phone, and played on the speakers. Our principal and vice principal wanting to settle the place down, I told them I passed, and they too clapped for me. Never did I get people cheering for me. It felt like I saved the entire world and have defeated the system. My point of this is for NO ONE, I MEAN NO ONE, should give up!!! When you have one shot, one opportunity to pass an important exam that determines your future, TAKE IT AND PASS!!! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Bio student here-ignore the first tip about carbs Like, dont eat fast foods , i agree with that , but diff. Reasons Carbs and fats are important In Neurons(our brain cells) ,the myelin sheath is literally made of fats and is actually helpful in thinking faster(in neurons with myelin sheaths , the electric impulse travels faster that in non-myleinated neurons) But dont eat fast foods(there are different types of fats, some of which are unhealthy) But dont starve urself either, basically
@atomiumjaeАй бұрын
bro I take bio too, at least for me, it’s completely fine to not take carbs man, I tried it myself it works like a charm no shit our brain needs carbs, but if you study bio you’ll know all the molecules that are in starch, are also in proteins bread and stuff will just give us a sugar crash

This is the video I needed the most. You are so straight-forward, and that it’s only 5 minutes in total. You just changed my whole perspective. I’ve always eaten sweets before going to the exam hall, especially today. I was struggling, trying to even remember the answer for the first question even though I crammed so hard yesterday, spending hours until midnight. Other people that are doing study tips on KZbin would last longer, and that even though it’s more information, sometimes I don’t need those part because they are somewhat unrelated to the problems I’m dealing with. But this video, you saved me bro… I am having O levels this year and I could literally hear your words in my head despite me forgetting things easily. W bro

About the carb thing, make sury to try it out beforehand!! You do not want to just skip carbs for the first time ever when youre writing a huge exam. It might be awesome, but it also might absolutely wreck your energy and concentration. Try it on a low risk day, like a normal study day in the library. Consider how you feel and how productive you are. Think about your focus and how quick your brain is. If its working great then you can do it on test day. If its awful and you cant even focus, then dont feel guilty over having a healthy carby breakfast. Obviously dont go too heavy on it, but carbs arent evil. Glucose is one of the only substances our brain can use for energy (ketones are the other one, but those take days to start producing), so dont think that cutting out all carbs, and by extension all glucose, will help you. Glycogen stores only last so long.
@atomiumjaeАй бұрын
Yep, thanks for the addition, personally it has helped me and a lot others who have tried it, so yea. You notice all the atoms this make up glucose also exist in proteins

I really like your advice especially about note taking where you instead make mind maps, and beating procrastination by understanding your shadow self, and also putting clear and short term goals that one should attain in order to get the desired long term goal. I personally found this very helpful in trying to better myself academically and physically. One of the techniques that helped me learn and study more in a more consistent basis is the pomodoro technique, I would like your insight on why one shouldn't do it for studying since you didn't really explain it in the video. I think having blocks of time where you concentrate your focus and then resting helped me a lot with my short attention span. Secondly, carbohydrates are one of the most important macronutrients that a living organism needs. Considering how the brain takes in a lot of energy, people should be eating carbs to fuel their bodies and I'm not quite satisfied with your reasoning of not taking any carbs. It would be nice for you to explain it further since you can be misleading your audience by not taking a well balanced meal to perform well in an exam or in any activity in life. I hope this comment finds you well.

As a straight A student in med school I have to disagree on the carbs. I literally eat oatmeal and chocolate bars on the days of my exam because they give me energy and the chocolate helps me calm my anxiety. Everybody is a little different and it takes trial and error to find out ,which diet gives one energy, allows for fun and aligns with long term health goals. Cutting down on junk food is still a good idea tho and if no carb works for you that’s great :)
@atomiumjaeАй бұрын
Yea everyone is a little different, but the sugary bread is a common thing we shld cut out. Many people still get straight As with carbs, but for me cutting down on that on the exam days themselves have really helped my focus

No bro only the breakfast before the exam. Rice is fine, we’ve been eating it for centuries. Just try to cut out on the bread with processed sugar, and the sliced bread that lasts 15 days when normal bread lasts 3, and you should be more than fine.
