I know this sounds really weird, but at 11:40 he has this little back and forth with the audience about what the percentage for a "D" grade is. And the crowd responds "Yeah." It's not that they just respond with an affirmative, it's that they all respond "Yeah" and they all respond with the same tone and note if you were to play that "Yeah" on a piano. Craig really tapped into something in people, and when folks were in the studio they were locked in. It was really great to see and be a part of. I got to see him live doing stand up a few weeks ago here in Iowa, and he was just as sharp. Thank you for putting this up, Jayleno Fly!

Oh my god, there just isn't anyone on Late Night this naturally talented. You can tell even though Craig has a team of people behind him, that he truly was just a genius. Like it just pours out of the guy. He's not reading off of anything. He looks at everyone in the crowd as if they're sitting across the table. He talks to us like we're friends hanging out way too late even though everyone has to go to work in the morning. I never felt like he just had some canned bs or an agenda beyond making as many adults in this country have a reason to smile before bed. There is no doubt in my mind there have been millions who have literally spent their entire day without one until seeing him on the screen. He shared his soul so that we have the strength to share our own, every day. I honestly love this man. I don't mean I like him. I've long fallen for this man, for giving so much of his light to so many who he'll never even meet. Thank you so much Craig. ~L 💜

I love Craig. Funny, intelligent, so quick, and a great patriot. However, while I vote every cycle, I disagree that if you don't vote you are a moron. I also don't believe it is our duty. We have the right to vote. A right and a duty are not the same things. I personally take a lot of time to listen, read, watch the debates, basically be invested in the elections. It is hard work and it is usually impossible to know what platforms the politicians stand for. All we hear is sound bites and criticisms. They make it sound like all Republicans are racist and all Democrats are Communist. For those people who don't have as much time available as I, it is even harder to decipher what the politicians stand for. We end up with a population that watches one channel or the other for 15 minutes, or listens to their best friend who watches one channel or the other. My opinion: If you want to vote, or feel it's your duty to vote, then go vote. It's your right. Those people who don't feel knowledgeable or just prefer not to vote should not feel ashamed by that decision. That is their right.

Craig Ferguson, born scottish, naturalized an american.The man choose a country and since from that moment, he determined to be a responsible patriot, not taking any party but to stick to his ideals and the values of the foundation of the young nation. His perspective is out of the two party political system and it reaches to everyone with his humor, reminding us by comedy, it's better to unite and not divide. A great nation has a strong sense of humor during dark times. Great sense of vision and such a love for humanity Craig has!

I agree with Craig; im from Spain and since i was able to vote... i did it every election (here you don't have to register, you show your ID, pick the ballot you want on the voting school, put it on a envelope and then put it on the poll), the party/candidates of my choce never won an election; but i did my part, it's not my fault that they didn't won, because i did my part. I wish we could vote more, for every issue on the country we, as citizens should vote for what we think is right; and to not let others decide for us if we can aboid it.

Thanks for posting this, JLF. I love watching any of your videos with Craig and I think I have watched almost all of them. =D With the topic of this video, I think Craig would be mad at me because I can honestly say, I have never voted in any election. I have never seen a candidate I can trust and if they ever had an election ad or a debate where they talked about themselves, instead of bad mouthing their opponent, then I might trust them. Although, to go along with what I said, you will never hear me complain about politics because I feel I do not have the right to do so, since I don't vote. Thanks, again, for posting hits, JLF. It's not surprising that a lot of naturalized citizens here are often more interested in voting than those of us who were born here. They know the differences between our freedoms, liberty, and our right...no, our DUTY to vote...and that of many other countries. Sure, we have our problems, such as the Popular Vote vs the Electoral Vote, but it's still the best system in the world, yet so many don't participate. I didn't get why it was that way when I was in high school, and I still don't get it now at age 64. I guess a lot of those "woke" people are still asleep.

What’s needed is to vote in every election, especially local and state government elections. It’s called “grassroots voting” and it’s far more important than simply voting once every four years for the president. It’s how your vote affects how and where politicians are positioned in the government to get what you wish done. The thing is, you can’t just sit around and hope for a good outcome, you have to at least learn the platforms of the politicians and officials within your voting arena, then vote for your best choices. But you probably don’t need me to explain this, I’ve heard they still teach it in school.

But the relevance of such effects varies a lot for people which changes how important voting is to those people. For context, I am a white, male, 20-year-old college student in California born into (technically) an upper-middle-class family from Connecticut. All of that info is kind of necessary to get an idea of why I don't feel politics has much of an effect on me, or even why I won't have much of an effect on politics. Though I think the prevalence of institutionalized white/male privilege across America is somewhat exaggerated, it does still exist. So it is hard for me to have any complaints in my current situation and thus hard to have a great need to vote for any change. And though I was born into an upper-middle-class family, wealth is dependent on location in America. Connecticut is not the cheapest place to live so people in our tax bracket truly only afforded relatively average homes, amenities, etc. Now I've moved to California to attend a state school (as an out-of-state student) which is not inexpensive - I expect to have a great amount of student debt. With that said, to me, the most intriguing aspect of the previous Presidential election was Bernie Sanders who of course, in the end, had very little chance of winning the vote. But even if he had become President, his proposed radical changes to America's tertiary education would have taken years if not decades to be implemented. While checks and balances are essential, they make for a very slow and redundant governing body. So even if everything went smoothly during 4 or even 8 years under a Sanders Administration, the pendulum would simply swing the other way and much of the progress for one side would be removed; just look at how much effort Trump put into dismantling the work of Obama. So again, since this was pretty much the only political issue I had any investment in for the last Presidential election, it was hard for me to find a reason to vote in 2020. This notion is further enhanced when you take a simple look at the Electoral College and the results where both California and Connecticut are always Blue. Moving back to local elections, working solely as a student in California, I personally don't even know which local elections I am eligible to partake in. But either way, my investment in whichever place I am living is low enough to have no real effect on me and I personally might even morally question myself if I affect a place I don't spend the majority of my time actually living in. Overall, I think the vast majority of people have varying degrees of involvement in politics over the course of their whole life; though I don't know your life. Has your involvement varied over the years? Were there possible variables your involvement depended on, ex. occupation, location, etc.? For example, I was very interested in joining the military, ROTC or the US Naval Academy were options for me two years ago, and would have greatly cared who my boss was going to be. I was very eager to watch this video because I highly respect Ferguson and admire how introspective he is (especially as an autodidact) but he didn't quite go into as much depth on the subject as I would have hoped. This is expected when his main job really is to just entertain an audience but I fear his message could have done more harm than good. As you mentioned above, "you have to at least learn the platforms of the politicians..." but this video and many others like it witnessed in the 2020 election simply said to "go out and vote". I'm afraid a 100% voter turnout including the greatly uninformed or even misinformed is much more dangerous than a mostly informed 60% voter turnout. When people begin to vote off who has the most on-screen "charisma" and who made the best roast in the last debate, you end up inaugurating, I'll just say, non-impressive figures. Sorry for the long response, hope the discussion can continue.

I, myself, am white, 65, and grew up in South Florida which I left in 1975 at age 19 after enlisting in the Air Force, where I spent the next 20 years. I began a tattooing apprenticeship at the 10-year point and worked both careers full time until I finished my AF career and continued tattooing full time for an additional 5 years. After goofing around for a few more years as a network engineer for a small, local company on the MS Gulf Coast I taught myself goldsmithing and how to cut and polish gemstones as a hobby, but that turned into a profession after I decided to pursue my Graduate Gemologist degree to better my knowledge of gemstones. That leads me to around the turn of the Millennium when I moved back here to SoFlo to help look after my mom, who passed away last January at the amazing age of 93. I consider myself to be supremely fortunate to have been able to again live in my childhood home and return the love and care my mother provided me as a baby, child, and yes, even into manhood, as she reached the twilight of her life. I have heard many, many people say “I wish I’d spent more time with my parents before they passed away. I feel fortunate beyond measure that I’ll never suffer that feeling. I wrote about all of this (there’s a lot more, but I’ll spare you 😂) so that it might be easier to understand why I voted absentee by mail in Florida my entire life, and still vote by mail today, so this long-winded reply to your question is: no, my involvement hasn’t varied much, if at all, these past 47 years of eligibility. I kept up with local politics in the old days by keeping current subscriptions to my hometown newspaper and the Miami Herald, and never missed even one ballot, including during my tours in Germany, South Korea, and Desert Storm. Keeping current finally became much easier once the World Wide Web became accessible. I most definitely agree that a 100% voter turnout would very likely be a disaster now, and probably at any point in our country’s history, but that’s very much in line with what I meant to convey with my original comment, which may not have been stated clearly enough with the written word. Unfortunately, the inability to impart tone, inflection, humor, irony, etc., with a mere keyboard is often frustrating. However, I mentioned that it is up to the individual to become aware of the pertinent issues of the day and the platforms upon which our governmental representatives stand, then vote as they see fit. But what I would like to hope is understood is that we all do so while using our intelligence and knowledge to the utmost. Our country’s political reach and involvement is *FAR* more complex than it was in 1974, when I was 18, but whereas most of where I had to glean information from was a very different set of media, mostly periodicals like newspapers and magazines, along with a *MUCH* less slanted group of broadcast media, today I have virtually every unclassified piece of information that mankind has ever known...right here in my hand. And *that* is why my involvement remains as involved as it ever has, and will continue to do so as long as I am able to hold off the dementia of advanced age. I’m not one to scold anyone about anything so, if any of the following seems as though it is, it’s purely unintentional. Many of my formative years growing up were in the ‘60s, and as a guy who first started playing guitar in 1964, (yes, I still play - there are a few phone camera videos of my most recent cover band in my channel list, somewhere,) I was fairly influenced by those rock stars who literally begged their fans to vote, much like musicians do today, only back then it was only very rarely laced with their own personal political views, unlike today. Back then it was simply, “You can’t make any change unless you go out and vote.” Yes, I realize that, as ultimately true as that statement is, it’s also strongly hampered by many things which are far beyond my control, and the control of the average voter. I’m not going to get into it because it can drive me a little nuts, but the whole Electoral College setup kills me sometimes. 😂 Most states are set up to cast ALL electoral votes to the popular vote majority, even if it’s only in the majority by a fraction of one percent. And not all states are required to do so. The thing for me is, even with all of its flaws, imperfections, and what have you, I don’t know of any better system on earth. So when I say that I believe that people truly need to get online and learn the issues and platforms, I say it because thanks to the Internet, it’s easier than it’s ever been! I say it’s the best system on earth because I spent more than half of my life (at the end of my military career, that is,) defending the constitution of this country from all enemies, foreign and domestic, for the express purpose of keeping the privilege and DUTY to vote as free as it’s been since this Republic was founded. Anything less feels incredibly disrespectful to me, personally, and a complete waste of our citizens’ freedoms, and even more importantly, our liberties. Voting is truly the one true freedom we can honestly guarantee ourselves. To not vote because you don’t believe it makes any difference in the next four years only insured that it can’t make any difference in the four years that follow.
