Thank you, Nick. I’ve often heard or read you talking about this important distinction between automatic thoughts and continuing to entertain them on repeat. It’s incredibly helpful to me to know that I have some choice and responsibility in this. I’m glad you repeat it often, as I forget it often!

Great video Nick! I love that you say some thoughts are automatic and we can’t control them. That validates what is happening to so many of us when we have intrusive thoughts. But at the same time we don’t have to be stuck in those mental patterns. This video can help people build emotional resilience, which I think is lacking in so many of us. I also love what you said about the stories we tell ourselves and examining them carefully to see and feel more clearly. Love your content as always! (Love your haircut too :) It’s a great look on you.

CBT seems to go wrong when the content of thoughts are deemed inaccurate by those not in positions of making such judgements. This can quickly delegitamize the therapy for some, and seems unnecessary.

I agree. Although, I'd say a good CBT therapist would never judge the content of a client's thoughts-instead, they teach them to take a more skeptical/curious approach to evaluating their own thoughts. But even so, non-engagement with unproductive thoughts is often a more effective strategy than even the most balanced analysis of the thoughts themselves. In my experience, anyway :)
