Very cool that you learned at 11😊. I learned while I was in junior high school/middle school by watching my older sister 🤓. I remember my first project was an all white blanket (big enough to cover myself) with a black edging. Wonder what ever happened to it 🤔. I'm now 58.

I've made A LOT of no turn Granny Squares because that's how my gram taught me, when I was 18. Fast forward 50+ years, I always added stitches between the sets of 3. I also used 3 chains on the corners. Love how these look tight & neat so you have taught this old dog some new tricks. I also bury my thread as I go so it's not overwhelming to do them all later.

I always get so excited after I watch one of your videos. Then I grab my yarn and off I go!!! But for some reason, my crocheting just doesn't go as smoothly as yours does. I have no idea why. You always make it look so simple. I can crochet, but I think I have 8 thumbs and 2 fingers, so it just takes me longer. Hahaha. Thank you again, Robin. I just love your tutorials and, as usual, your gorgeous yarn.

I have looked closely at several other channels and believe yours is the best for granny squares. the chunky yarn makes the video easy to follow, and your voice is clear and instructions easy to follow. I also like it that you start with the magic ring, and start additional rounds with a standing crochet, which I prefer to a chain. Thankyou so much from a beginner (with a pile of previous lumpy granny squares) for posting such a helpful video.

What makes hers so perfect, is the standing stich. She dose a little hack where she yarns over to join, as a pose to under. Also note that she joins in the middle of a cluster as a pose to in a chain. Joining in a chain can add a tiny bit of yarn an make it lean. She also doesnt add a chain inbetween clusters. When you add the chain between it also makes the total square looser and lean. All the little hacks that she dose straightens things right up. I bet it took her a very long time an many many many granny squares to prefect it. I applaud her for sharing.

I have been crocheting since December 2023, so am really a beginner. I am teaching myself to crochet by watching videos and reading through all the comments on the various crochet groups. What I love about your videos is that you always give the instructions very clearly, and always give a reason for why you're doing something. That makes a huge difference to someone who's learning. Hello Robin, I've made a few of your blankets over the past few years, and loved making every one of them. Some, even more rhan once. I just recently learned about the "standing single crochet," and loved it. Thank you for now teaching me the "standing double and half double" crochet stitches. And your granny square is the nicest one I've seen yet. I have struggled making granny squares for years. For whatever reason, I quickly learned to dislike them, and have avoided using them for that reason. But yours is so nicely done, so neat and square. I just might give them another go-round. I also struggle with weaving in ends, but never thought to treat them as you have done. I always leave long ends so I can weave them up, down, whichever. I am so loath to having something I've made and given away, come apart. But it's not always easy finding the best, and neatest way to do that. Maybe you could do a video on various ways and methods for hiding them neatly? I might learn an easier yet better way from you?😊 Thank you for your tutorials. Always extremely well done, and well thought through to cover every detail.

@elspethmcgarey7 ай бұрын
Finding an alternative to the chain three is necessary as there is less yarn in the chains than in a double crochet stitch, and that contributes to bias. I found that when I use the standing double crochet there is very little, if any, bias, even if I always start in the same corner.

This is a lovely and helpful video. I am just learning to crochet. But what do you mean about this being a “no turn” granny square? Because you are turning as you go? Thanks!
@HookedbyRobin6 ай бұрын
There is a technique which involves flipping your square (turning) each row which keeps everything lovely and even - the only downside to that is that one round will be the front of your stitches and the next will show the back side of your stitches. A lot of people don't like the look of that and prefer to have one set front side and one set back 🙂 Turning (the flipping back and forth) works brilliantly if you want a very large granny square type blanket - I really should do a tutorial for that at some point 😅

How long are your tails for weaving in please. They seem short yet you can weave a long way. Slowed it down on green round and much less weaving than blue round

I absolutely loved making this blanket. Would you consider doing a wedding crochet along. My granddaughter is getting married in the spring. Would love to make something beautiful and unique. Or maybe a valentine crochet along that would be cool. Anyway, love your channel. Carol C.
