I’ve been focused on relaxing and letting go lately. This was a shockingly illuminating practice. Very good. I wish KZbin would leave the ads out of the middle of this one, but you knocked this one out. Subbed.

Hey Hal, thanks for the comment - I'm glad you found this helpful. There is a whole playlist on my channel related to dealing with anxiety. Also you might like the longer videos in the "Biological Fitness" playlist. I agree that it's annoying that KZbin puts ads in the videos. This channel isn't monetized and I'm not aware of a way to prevent that from my end. However, as a viewer, I subscribed to KZbin Premium which eliminates all ads. It's a bit annoying to pay for that too, but it isn't a lot (I forget how much) and it's definitely made my overall experience on KZbin better. You might consider that.

@@movewithseth I'm going to try out this technique when practicing feldenkrais to discover in what kind of positions I tend to tense my muscles. So far I found out that it happens when I side bend to the right or when I'm doing a hip hinge movement like the deadlift.

@@lexroet1215 cool. Now you have something very specific to work with. Another thing you can do is investigate the side bending move to both sides and try to zero in on what feels different on the left versus the right. Go back-and-forth without trying to correct anything but get really present to all the different places where the pattern feels different and you might make more discoveries there as well…

I know it has smth to do with my anxiety 🫠 but i hold my breath almost everytime and got tensions everywhere, in my stomach, throat, hands, knees, ankles, even in my eyes sometimes. Is it normal that i'm suffering even when i'm not anxious?
@movewithseth

Yes, breath holding is a somatic sign of anxiety. It shows up differently for each person so the purpose of this practice is to notice how it shows up for you. To your question, I guess it depends what you mean by 'suffering.' Perhaps for you these bodily tensions are so familiar that you treat them as 'normal' because your experience is "this is just how it is." While that has its validity, an important question would be: "How would life feel if these tensions did not live in my body?" This practice will not likely lead to totally eliminating the tensions you experience, but if you were to work with it over time, it could lead to a significant reduction of tensions - and perhaps a reduction of 'suffering' too! The basic idea is that if you notice yourself tensing part of your body at the moment of holding your breath and can learn to lessen that contraction even a little, you will be creating more ease in your system. Do this regularly and it can make a big difference over time. One last suggestion: check out the free training on the 5 Foundations of Presence in the caption of this video. You can also find a how playlist of videos on this channel related to confronting anxiety. There are several more besides this one.

This was great as it made me fall asleep whilst doing it and I have sleep problems. The only thing is are we breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth or all through the nose? How is it best? Many thanks
@movewithseth
@movewithseth Жыл бұрын
Hi Taj, I'm so glad to hear that this process helped you sleep! As for how you breathe, I'd say that it's preferable to breathe through the nose, but that's not always possible, for example if you have congestion. Also, while nose breathing is generally preferable to mouth breathing, that's not true for all situations. What's especially useful is to develop awareness of your breathing habits and an adaptability with your breath that allows you to breath fast or slow, deep or shallow, through the nose or mouth, etc. If you'd like to understand your own habits with mouth and nose a bit better, I suggest you try this video next: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWHKn3-Zf9lkmtE Feel free to contact me with any other questions you have about breathing.

Thank you so much for replying. I really appreciate it. I have had a blocked nose, for a couple of weeks and have been trying different ways to clear this up. I have been reading a lot about nose breathing. So trying to do that as much as possible.. but also it’s hard with anxiety because sometimes breathing through the mouth really helps. It seems now I can fall asleep, but not stay asleep 😬

Actually, there is not a demonstration in this video. That is on purpose. You can just listen to it like a radio broadcast. The positive change that can occur is a result of you listening to your own body rather than copying what someone else does.
