I couldn't drive my e46 properly and I couldn't figure out why, my friends even started to make fun of me. Mind you I have a Subaru Sti with all the sporty bits and upgraded clutch and I drive that car flawlessly. One day I've decided to see, how it feels with the armrest in upwards position and OMG, that was the problem, now I don't drive my car like a novice. Arm rest is great, but it's for automatics only IMO

Doesn't look like you fixed it securely. The two screws under the ashtray at the back fix to the big plastic bracket that also holds the armrest itself. The non-armrest version has a small metal bracket in its place for those two bolts to fix to. Best grab that bracket if you're doing the conversion. Don't think the US market got them but these consoles seem to come standard on all the ti / compact models so heaps of them available elsewhere. Must have for any manual.

It looks that way because it’s not actually fit securely in this video. lol. I accidentally left that metal bracket at my parents house, but it was too late to pick it up that night. The center console is just sitting in the car in the video, but you are right! You need to make sure when you pick one of these out of a junkyard, you grab that little Y shaped bracket That sits under the ashtray. A must have for sure!
