Also check your parking brake cable under the vehicle. Might be binding or seized.

Another issue I found was my backing plates were very old and worn down. There are little Nubs that are designed to keep the brake shoes pushed outward just a little bit so that they can move freely. But if this backing plate is worn down, your brake shoes can possibly get hung and drag and overheat. I discovered this after making the video you are watching here. I've just noticed on my 2004 Toyota Hilux the left rear is all wet around the rim and break drum, it might of got over filled by auto masters here in adelaide.

I'm having the issues of the right rear getting hot on a 06 tundra. So I would have to check the side that is getting hot or the side that is not?

Got this problem right now. Had the mechanic install new shoe/drums/etc. One side gets hot you can smell rubber. Took it back and we both checked it out. The wheel spins freely and everything is dry as a bone.....we are puzzled.

You have to test it while it's up on the lift. Put the truck in gear and let the wheels turn and then press the brake in and see what happens. Also, press the parking brake in and see what happens. One of the brakes is obviously adjusted a little too tight. And it doesn't take much.

Oh and I forgot to mention about mine, my backing plates were completely worn out, that's why my brake shoes were not retracting properly. So check the metal backing plate that is attached to the axle. Basically what all of your brake shoes and springs and whatnot are attached to. Check that plate. If it appears to be worn out, replace it. You won't be able to tell unless you remove your brake shoes though. I know it's a pain. But that's the only way I found out. Because there are little Nubs on it that keep the brake shoes pushed out just a little bit. But if the backing plates are original or are very old, the shoes won't be able to move about and retract like they need to. See my other video about that. See link below.
