Not a question. I just wanted to thank you so much for making these videos. I started watching your channel over the summer and hearing your advice definitely relieved a lot of stress regarding the application process. I did get accepted to Purdue for FYE, but I'm going somewhere else for financial reasons. Again, thank you for making these videos! :)

Hey! I got in for CS and Purdue is one of my top few choices. A lot of people say that it's can get kind of boring there as there's not much there to do... is this true? I'm a little worried since I'll be spending four years there.

Hello! Your video was pretty darn useful, and I've committed to Purdue! I've just got a few short questions: How many people bike? / is commuting between classes by bike a relatively good or bad idea? How busy in the silver loop? What're your thoughts on A/C-less dorms? What is the online work like? Anything we need to be prepared for? (I'm assuming we aren't gonna get fall classes but who knows) And lastly, what's your favorite movie?

1) I bike everywhere on campus. You'll rarely see me without out it haha. 2) It can get pretty crowded in the mornings, especially in the winter, but it's a pretty reliable way to get around. 3) Dorms w/o AC only suck for the first few weeks when it's hot, but for the rest of year they basically feel the same as the others. Plus, everyone keeps their doors open when it's hot so the dorms w/o AC tend to be more social! 4) I might make a video on this later. Stay tuned! 5) Ferris Bueller's Day off. Or any of the Harry Potter movies!

Hi, love your videos, they had helped a lot. I'm 99% sure about going to perdue, but 1% super worried about the transition to mayor. I'm only interested in Mechanical engineer, so I would be devastated if I didn't make it. How hard is it to get your chosen mayor and how many end up really getting what they wanted?

ME definitely one of the harder ones to get because it’s so popular. The cutoff GPA changes a little each year but I believe last year it was a 3.4. It’s definitely something to consider, but if you are confident in your ability to get good grades you’ll be fine!

Hi! I have been admitted to Purdue, and thinking of majoring in CS. I have also accepted my offer and will attend Purdue for the fall of 2020. What are some of the things that you wish you knew as a freshman and what should I prepare prior to moving on campus? Thanks a lot

This is a good question I might keep coming back to if I come up with more responses haha. Off the top of my head I'd say definitely say I wish I used office hours more haha. For me I almost had too much pride to seek help my freshman year or, on the flipside, whenever I didn't know enough about topics I would be too scared to go to office hours because I didn't want to be judged by the professor for my lack of knowledge. Even if you feel like you mostly know what you're doing, or have no idea at all what you're doing, I'd say still using office hours will help you get your work done faster and you have the opportunity to get to know your professor a little better! Also I'd say not to get caught up in the pre-professional stress culture. I felt at Purdue there was a huge pressure (especially in STEM majors) to get research opportunities, summer internships, co-ops ASAP and for me when I didn't get one last summer I was hard on myself. I'd say just don't get caught up in what everyone else is doing if it isn't for you. You don't NEED 3 internships to get a good job, you don't NEED to be the president of 3 clubs etc. Pursue what interests you and don't look back!

Hey! I'm 100% going to Purdue for engineering, but have a few questions about math classes. I'm not planning on testing out of the first semester of calc, and I'm not sure what the difference is between MA16100 vs. MA16500 besides the credit hours. Do you much about either? Also, I always hear Purdue math is ridiculously hard. I'm assuming students who think so don't have a deeper understanding of what's really happening in their math classes and just try to get away with memorizing how to do certain types of problems. Is this true? what has your experience been like?
@michaeljin5460
@michaeljin5460 4 жыл бұрын
Great question! MA161 is 5 credit hours, so you have three lectures and two recitations a week, 165 is 4 credit hours, so three lectures and 1 weekly recitation. I would say go for 165 since if I remember correctly they have group quizzes during recitation. Disclaimer, I never took 161 or 165, but I have many friends who have. Purdue math is definitely hard haha. If you've ever taken Calc AB, MA161/165 is a lot more demanding from what I've heard. If you put the work in, go to office hours, and study for the exams (definitely using the past exam archive) you can do well though!

Hey does the does the weather ever affect ur moral? And how’s the food culture there? What activities are there on a daily basis?

I would be lying if I said it doesn't, but the first few snowfalls at Purdue and the winter traditions are magical! The on-campus food honestly isn't to bad! It sometimes get's repetitive though. There's definitely a lot of restaurants off campus though. And literally any activity you can think of, there's probably a club for it or a place where you can do it!

How is the food? what are the options? Do you find college easier or harder than high school? How good is the krannert school of management?
@michaeljin5460

Food honestly isn't too bad. It gets repetitive after a while but compared to other schools I've been to it's actually pretty good. My experience, the college workload isn't necessarily more than high school but the content is more difficult. Also you're not taking as many classes at a time so it'll feel you'll be investing more time per class than HS. Definitely depends on major and individual classes you're taking tho. Krannert is sometimes the butt-end of jokes from a lot of STEM majors but IMO it's not deserved because it's still a solid school with good connections and classes. Hope this helps!

Definitely not as accessible if you're a guy. You'll probably have to talk to more people and "network" more. Most of your nights out will be likely be at house parties or ones through clubs but its still an active social scene!

I got accepted into Krannert school of management at Purdue although I applied for Industrial Engineering. I got into Penn state school of engineering for my first choice major. I just don't know whether I should risk going into Purdue and later attempting to change my major or just going into PSU. I need opinions asap

Hi! It's definitely possible to switch into IE at Purdue. It isn't the most competitive engineering major so it's definitely possible! If you're at all worried you can still get a great education at Penn State! There's info listed on this website about specific major change or "codo" requirements. www.purdue.edu/advisors/codo/requirements-201819/engineering.php#mech

@@mdrmusic4887 I don't know anyone personally. Keep in mind at Purdue you declare your engineering major your sophomore year. If you want to transfer as a freshman you might have to transfer into FYE after your first semester (I'm not 100% sure of this). Also worth noting that you can attempt to switch majors more than once!
