We should all be so lucky to have 16 years with someone we love. The story reminds me of my parents and watching them care for each other, and knowing/ hoping that my husband and I will one day take care of each other as we get older. It is heartbreaking but also such a blessing

I appreciate you putting it that way. My husband (Frank to my bill) died on our 15th anniversary and I struggled with anger and feeling as if I’d been robbed of our growing old(er) together. It took me a long while to realize just how incredibly lucky I was to have had those 15 years with him, the happiest I’d ever been.

They did the transition from the mass grave to Bill's house after Joel said that FEDRA swept the outer towns about a week after the outbreak. That's why the houses were still in such good shape. Bill's house was his family house. He most likely lived in it his entire life. In the beginning you can see it was probably decorated by Bill's mother and he never changed anything. Later, after Frank's arrival, you can notice new, more vibrant colors and Frank's paintings on the walls.

We were confused by the flawless antiques in the sprawling house. Didn’t fit with the weird basement prepper vibes. Once Bill said the classical piano music was his mother’s the house made a lot more sense.

This was the episode that that broke me and finally got me to cry. Two middle aged men growing old, finding purpose again in a world so divided and ill-advised on tearing itself apart and actually being able to die in peace as everything crumbles around them. A tsunami of tears left me by then.

How is Bill still alive after four years by himself? It's a superpower of introverts! We spend our entire lives shutting ourselves off from the world. Four years alone with all my various projects? Don't threaten me with a good time lol

You two really are my favorite reactors. It's the little things for me, like (trying to say this without spoilers) I think you two are the first of 20+ reactors I've seen who didn't seem confused at THAT SCENE where the camera is pulled back real far from the front porch and then cuts closer in for the reveal. You got it right away. I respect that.

A bit late here, but regarding the "unlimited" wine supply, then he did not only have his own large wine collection in the basement, but the town also had a wine store, and being it's only "customer", the wine from this store and it's storage should last for many years.

Nice reaction! But Jessa don't be so hard on it picking it apart! Bill had all that wine because it showed him raiding the wine store, and as for "power washing" the house, they made a point of Frank using paint to keep the place looking nice because it was important to him.

Bill came out of his house pretty much the day his town was quarantined, which was within the week after the infection began, so his town had no reason to be completely overrun.

The music person for this ep committed a war crime using Max Richter's "On The Nature of Daylight" for that scene. Like, yes, it fits perfectly, thematically, but goddamnit it's distinctly illegal to bring up my Arrival emotions and give me an ol' one-two like this. Would love to see an Arrival reaction, that movie deserves more love on KZbin.

Great reaction as always! Such a wonderful episode. :) Also, tiny detail: when we first see Bill coming out of his basement, I think it's only been a few days since the initial outbreak - that's why his house and lawn still look so well-maintained.

I believe the date showed it was the monday after the infection began, so there had literally only been the weekend, and his town probably hadn't even been hit by the infection yet given that people were calmly standing around being shuffled onto the death buses.

I love Frank's line about "older means we're still here", especially when you consider that these are two gay men who would have come of age right at the start of the AIDS pandemic. Also, _Shrek_ came out in 2001, so they definitely could have seen it; they just wouldn't have seen any of the sequels (meaning no Puss In Boots)

Sad moment when you realize the world "ended" RIGHT before Massachusetts even legalized gay marriage. So in Bill's world, there was never all this gay progress we've made the last 20 years. He really thought "this was it", and marriage while gay was so foreign to them that they didn't even truly consider until their last day.

Wait what? As a gay middle aged man, I felt no "snark" towards an episode that was great representation for us... They just joke or laugh as a defense mechanism, and that's fine, everyone reacts to emotional moments differently. If anything they wont me over as a sub!
@nari5025

@@Quotenwagnerianer It's a fair criticism that someone might have and not all around here share. They tried to apologize at one point for their snark, and i thought, "well, but that's what I'm here for, please don't stop" They will hopefully not change, but I think it's absolutely fair to state to reactors what you don't like about them. In a fairly polite way of course.
