I think for new people to the gym they find it hard to get that mindset and quit to quickly under weight but after training consistantley for a long time you would naturally learn to get in that mindset without thinking about it

With the 1000's of Burpees and push-ups you've done you're worried about the first 5 reps of a 10 rep set putting undue wear on the joints? I don't understand your point? The first 5 reps in a set of 10 is going to be easier than the last 5 reps. It has to be by definition. That doesn't mean it's wasted. And if we're talking about a beginner you want higher rep easier sets to begin w/. It gives a greater margin for error. The trainee is just starting out. They're just building their base, learning form, trying to put it all together. They're not ready for the advanced training that an experienced trainee, like yourself, is able to do.
