The thing about Bart is he isn't a "crusher" - despite the name Crush Live Poker. He knows what he's good at, and knows how to exploit weakness at low to mid stakes, and knows how to make a lot of money doing what he does. He's not gonna go toe to toe in the nose bleeds, cause (at least from what it seems) he knows his game, and knows how to beat it over and over again. So I respect his game and respect how well he knows how to exploit 2-5 through 5-10-25 and even higher. But yea, you're not gonna find him in Bobbys Room or anything.

Dan's never been my favorite player, but because his life/poker experience is so different from my own, I'm subscribing. Dan, if you're giving it a shot to share what you know, I'm listening. I was a part-time to full-time New England pro from 2005-2020. Like Bart, I liked playing a level or two below where my EV would have peaked. Partly for his reason of avoiding much bigger swings, therefore reducing my bankroll requirements. But maybe a bit more for the fact that I'd rather be completely relaxed and joking around with fun recreational players, plus be significantly better than any other semi-pro or pro players at the table, usually. I enjoyed playing a level or two up with the toughest pros at Foxwoods, and still won at those levels. I eventually stopped being targeted by them, after gaining respect by taking their money when they'd try blowing me off hands. Once confident playing the toughest game in the room, I was happy to drop back down most of the time, and only play with them when their games got fish-laden. When a bunch of fish were in their game (usually restaurant owners) then I'd join them in taking my slice of that pie. But the rest of the time, I'd just have fun knowing I'm grinding out easy money in a more comfortable game. One big difference is that as Bart says, the higher game might be barely breakeven for me much of the week, when it's just the best pros grinding against each other paying rake, and have a great win rate maybe 20 hours per week. While at "my" game, I could play any hour of any day, as many hours as I wanted, and not have a single hour of it be breakeven or losing EV. Though I don't believe in tapping on the fish tank or giving free lessons, there were also cases where I knew that some aspiring players viewed me as a role model both technically and behaviorally. In a few cases, I actively advised/mentored them, though obviously not while at the table with them. Helping someone to become a smart player, a pleasant player to be at the table with, and not someone driving future new players away from the game, is a pretty good feeling.

I agree, if a poker player has the ability to make 75K live, they have the intelligence and can most likely find a job that pays more with benefits, health insurance, vacation days, annual increases. For 99% of individuals, it would be a terrible choice to give up a career and play poker full time .

My only argument against playing poker for a living at a young age is that you lose the opportunity to move up in the workplace. Even if you’re going to work for a new company, you’re still getting paid more as the years go by because of your prior work history and experience. Not sure “professional gambler” helps much on most applications

It's fun seeing comments from people who have probably never left their state, much less their country, berating the observations of guys talking about places where they've not only traveled dozens of times, but have spent time earning a living. People living in their own little bubble, think their favorite TV station tells them everything they need to know about the world. OTOH, Dan being out of touch with the rake and drop in normal-stakes games, is also hilarious. Just another case of someone living in their own bubble. At least it sounds like Dan is going to check it out, and get back in touch with the system the produces the players, a few of whom will become the blood donors in the games he plays in himself.
