Too bad he didn’t change Joey’s mind. But you have to know something. Ed and Joey know you can’t change their minds because they know people are brainwashed, we’re not carnivores/omnivores and animals are friendly helpless plant eating animals. Chickens are birds. There are wild birds that fly around. Why aren’t people taking their man-made guns and shooting birds that fly around above our heads? Why aren’t people killing seagulls? Or hummingbirds? They’re birds, too.

@@blab3481 It is because the dairy and egg industries inflict immense suffering upon cows/chickens as well. Cows are raped, kidnapped, enslaved and then sent to the slaughterhouse when they can no longer produce milk. Drinking an demanding an output of all that ugly suffering is not very different to eating meat. If you live in a country like India the dairy industry might be a little more merciful, but ultimately cows are still being exploited and commodified. I've been vegetarian since I was born due to my Indian cultural background - but just turned vegan last week after learning about how the Australian dairy industry treats cows. I was ignorant all this time about where my milk comes from - absolutely detached from the process.

@Metrix Cube We simply equate registering animal cruelty on a mass scale as "seeing the light" because turning a blind eye to it is truly living in the dark ages. Empathy is a powerful thing. Fairly recently we used to think of women as property as well and in some parts of the world that's still true. Much of that is fuelled by religious belief, blind faith. "Vegans" have looked at standard animal agricultural practices and said "f**k that!".
@KatHood
@KatHood 5 жыл бұрын
@Metrix Cube You make a good point about using products that exploit humans. I can think of clothing as a massive one, technology also. The sex trade. There are many trades that exploit people. One could argue that the whole 9 to 5 structure of working a full time job is also based on exploitation of human beings. There just is exploitation everywhere we turn, but if we aren't aware of it, that doesn't mean it's not happening. Once we become aware of something we have the opportunity to make a different choice. It takes time to unpick the reality we've all been brought up on and discover other alternatives. Animal agriculture is a hard one to avoid, but not impossible and so many people do what they can, when they can to make those changes. The same goes for any other industry. We are still in the thick of discovering the backend and exploitation level of many industries we've all taken for granted and new alternatives (good and bad) are showing up daily. It's a process for us all. Labelling people who are just trying to make a different choice, based on the information they have access to as "You Vegans" negates the humanity in all those doing their best. The Industrial Revolution was based on the exploitation of people, animals, land and sea to begin with. We are dealing with the consequences of that daily.

The fact is, meat helps you obtain all essential and conditionally essential amino acids as well as a host of co-riding nutrients. And the broader the range of meats, fish and poultry you eat, the wider the range of nutrients you'll get. That goes for cuts and parts as well. Skin and marrow offer glycine. Organ meats offer bigger hauls of certain vitamins and minerals. The key to meat consumption? Go slow, bold and balanced. Not all protein is created equally. Protein is composed of up to 20 different amino acids. Every protein source contains some or all of those amino acids in different proportions, so each source of protein really is different. When we digest protein, what our bodies actually absorb and utilize are those amino acids. Each one plays a different role in the body, from building and repairing various tissues to performing vital metabolic processes, from acting as progenitor for essential compounds to regulating gene expression. We need amino acids to live. Animal-based protein contains adequate concentrations of all the essential amino acids.

Because grass fed meat is waaaaay less sustainable and more land consuming than factory farmed meat, you'd basically have to turn entire cities into farmlands in order to even try feeding all the hungry people grass fed meat. By the way, even though we use all of this land and have all these factories producing animal products there are approximately 800 million people who still suffer from chronic hunger. With all the crops we feed to the animals, we could easily feed more than 10 billion humans sustainably.

I don't understand what you are saying. One line you say factory farms are needed to feed the population. Then in the next you say going vegan can feed everyone. I don't know about the rest of the planet, just like everyone else. But I do know that the open range grass fed beef is 100 % symbiotic with the environment. The perennial grass lands within the forest are in need of grazing and cattle keep the seeds fertilized and healthy. NOT everyone eats factory farm meat. Death is apart of life. You can't have one without the other. Vegans are Hippocrates. You cannot live in this society without being a cancer to this planet!

@@surfdawg7326 I'm saying that grass fed meat can only feed a small number of humans. So with your logic we should stop factory farmed meat and only let a select few eat meat while other humans eat other stuff. You get what I'm saying? It is mathematically impossible to feed the entire population grass fed meat without wiping out forests and cities in the process. So basically the only way to feed the entire population animal products is to produce factory farmed meat, and even if we do that like we do right now we still have around 800 million people starving to death. I didn't even mention that meat and animal products cause heart disease, cancer and a bunch of other killers of humans all over the western world. So it would be very self destructive to mass produce animal products and spend a very large amount of our resources, just to eat the animals and fuck up our health. Meanwhile if we use the crops we feed to the animals we could easily feed everyone without the adverse health effects of animal products. Animals eat a lot more than humans and in order to feed these animals we have to destroy rainforests and natural habitats to turn them into farmlands. It's just a very stupid dynamic and we should start working in a more efficient way or else the planet will not take much more of this.

He is your average and typical pompous contradictory hypocritical flesh eater. They will not and can not accept that killing/murdering of animals to make biscuits cakes sweets ice cream ect is just wrong. When we talk about flesh eaters using the correct language is important. To look at one self and admit you are an animal abuser is hard and most people just don’t want to do that. Because then they would have to change.

I don’t think there’s necessarily a magic solution, I think persistence is a good thing, he himself said if he had to witness the animal abuse footage every time before he was about to eat meat, he wouldn’t eat it. I think calm discussion, getting people to open up and challenge their belief system is the best way. Also on persistence, Anthony Magnabosco who has the channel Street Epistemology (where he asks people questions to get them to try to rationalise their own beliefs) likes to have three discussions with people on separate days, it gives people a chance to step away and think about what they’ve heard (he also keeps discussions relatively short). I think it also has to be considered that people are different and are convinced by different things. Even though I think most people would be convinced by the morality argument eventually, it may be faster and more efficient to use different arguments such as the environment, pandemics, health, and just generally showing people that vegan food can taste good, even though the core of veganism rests in animal rights. Of course some people witness footage of slaughterhouses etc and go vegan straight away so this is important but with others there are cognitive barriers that enable us to continue buying animal products
@christianvetter2906

He had some valid arguments. I grew up in a village and got involved in animal butchering when I was 6 or even younger. Slaughterhouse images did not impress me back then. I had seen those things many many times at home. They were normal. And animals were commodities, not more. I would have been him, 5-10 years ago. It needed environmental arguments to slowly bring me down towards flexitarianism before I even started to honestly listen to ethical arguments. After that, a single talk by Gary Yourofsky was enough to flick the switch in my brain.

We have a similar history, i also wanted to go vegan because of environmental arguments but I discovered insects as an alternative food source and they are even more environmentally friendly than growing nuts/avocados for example and they contain the whole vitamin profile even vitamin C also no need to supplement vitamin D, B12... already 100g of insects covers everything an adult needs but they are a bit expensive atm because of the indoctrination of the western society.

It's different for everybody! Not everyone works in a slaughterhouse neither sees animal abuse pics regularly.. I turned vegan because of animal abuse and videos! @@punson2220, you are right. Everybody is different. And that is why, in my opinion, we have to diversify our approaches to convince people to become vegan. 75% of all vegans are women. And I think this has to do with emotions that come up when seeing what is actually going on in a slaughterhouse. A lot of men (me included before I became vegan) can look at those pictures and don't feel a thing. With my friends, who are mostly scientists, ethical discussions hardly work. They understand the arguments but they are not altruistic enough to take action. Global warming, deforestation, and spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, however, can be measured and affects them (and their children) as well. By telling them: "Look, those are the facts and this must be done.", it is way easier to reach them. I often add: "If you calculated your setup needs a 100mm lens, you use a 100mm lens." followed by "We have calculated the per-person meat consumption must go down below that of India. So why do you eat more?". That typically triggers something :-). Once people are down to one piece of meat a week, they become way more open to giving it up completely. Because they learn that they don't need it at all. Moreover, by telling them that they don't have to give it up right away, they are more likely to give it a try in the first place.

What is so unhealthy about meat and dairy exactly? Is it omega-fatty acids, which are crucial substances for the devolpment of the brain, and which are only found in animal products? Are we talking B12 and other B-vitamins, or perhaps Vitamin D, or Vitamin A, who are also non-existent in any plant-based food? Even for the Vitamins that are present in plant food, such as E and K, these are only possible for the body to consume if they are soluable in fat, which isn't a gurantee for nearly all plant products. You also have to take into account other nutrients, such as minerals for example, who are found to be in much bigger quantities in meat than in vegetables or fruit (sometimes you can't even absorb the minerals found in these plants, due to toxic substances like Oxalic acid, Phytic acid and Tannins, who are effectively mineral-magnets). Im sorry, but the body needs meat, regardless how horrible you think the killing of animals is (I do not support the raising of animals in the manner done by the meat industry, I support local farming)

We all agree that unnecessary animal suffering that occurs on on animal farms is a bad thing, however it cannot be said that preying and killing of animals in general is an unnatural process. Yes, in Nature, there is actually this thing called exploitation; you have birds eating worms, wolfs hunting deer, fish eating insects, hell, even plants make use of eachother. It is a NATURAL process, which ensures balance and stability for all species. So are you implying that we should stop all of these animals from eating meat altogether? If humans should stop consuming animal products, why stop with them, why not all carnivorious creatures?
