Had a dispute from a guy about a comment I made about joe rogan being a nice guy for choosing hunting over eating from factory farms. The guy told me that I'm a hypocrite because of all the animals that die by plant farming with machinery. He said he also loves animals and has dogs but because of annoying vegetarians he is now a hunter. Ya, where did I start to address all of that repetitive nonsense? The last thing I told him was you cannot love animals and want to do harm to them at the same time.
@WeAreCameron4 жыл бұрын
@@marcusserrao Yes-- maybe the two most annoying and unproductive things in these debates: People who say "animals die from vegetable farms" and then you have to spend all this time breaking down the math to someone who deep down already knows it. And two, people who say "well I'm going to go against veganism because I don't like the way vegans make me feel." It's the same thing as when a closeted homosexual acts homophobic because they haven't confronted their own feelings. I would argue that those two archetypes are upholding a lot of the animal industry.
@marcusserrao4 жыл бұрын
@@WeAreCameron wow, never saw it that way but I can see the similarities. It's like people are ashamed at admitting that it would be great to be vegan and to eat and live a cruelty free life. I myself for the last few months was avoiding calling myself that for fear of what others would think of me, so I said, I'm eating mostly plant based food these days. Now it's different. Now, after a lot of support from Challenge 22 groups and amazing advocates like James Aspey and Earthling Ed, I'm proud to say I'm vegan and explain what it means in its simplest goal: do no harm. Thanks for your opinion! 💚

Cognitive dissonance is simply competing beliefs or conflicting beliefs - this may or may not cause psychological harm. Defense mechanisms is what causes the excuse finding. @A for Carrot Many vegetarians believe it's better or good enough to be vegetarian. In reality, it's mostly a pointless position to have unless you're using vegetarianism as a means of transitioning to veganism. The dairly industry for all intents and purposes, is no different than the meat industry. Animals still get killed, raped and abused. I don't think vegetarians are morally better than a meat eater who says they don't eat that much meat. I think that's why they get hate, it makes them feel better, whilst not really making much of a difference. I don't think they deserve that hate, but I think meat eaters and vegetarians need to understand why they're getting that hate.

@@someguy2819 Vegans aren’t morally better than a Vegetarian or a meat eater, morality is a subjective matter based off of the discretion of the person. Some vegans are vegan for the animals, some are vegan for health benefits or because they can’t process dairy and or meat well. Some people that are Vegan definitely have an ego and believe they’re better than people that have a different diet. Some meat eaters are only eating meat out of ignorance, not because they are consciously supporting the dairy or meat industries. Some people don’t have a choice, be it age or where they live. The whole point is you’re not a better or worse person depending on your diet, all it does it boost your own ego. And when I say you I’m not specifically talking about you, I’m just generalising.

In most households you don’t get to decide what is on the table. You eat whatever is put in front of you and don’t leave the table until your plate is cleared. It sounds like you have no experience with poor families and parents just barely scrapping by. These families do not have Money or time to source meat eating and vegan diets separately. This would only work if the entire family was vegan.

Joey you turned me vegan and I owe you a huge thank you. I am in my late 30's and only wish I'd changed sooner. I'll try to describe how it feels to be me right now: I've spent many, many hours over a few decades arguing and debating with all kinds of people, but not about veganism. Mostly it was stuff like religion, or conspiracy theories or flat Earthers and many other topics. I'm good at spotting bad arguments, and I enjoy a healthy debate. I also like to learn and change my mind given good enough reason to do so. I've always strived to believe as many true things as possible and as few false things as possible. As it turns out I had an enourmous gaping black hole in my world view. It was a gap that, whilst I was aware of the ethical problems of animal products, I simply chose to ignore. Strangely, and sort of paradoxically, I'd greatly reduced my meat-intake over the past decade or so; partly because it's healthier, partly because my wife is a vegetarian so it's just easier to cook at home, and partly because a part of me did feel uncomfortable about eating meat. I said paradoxically mainly because of that last point; I knew what I was doing didn't sit right for me, but the human brain is amazingly resourceful when it comes to contradicting itself, and so I'd still eat meat when at restaurants, and when buying take-aways, anything from the reduced shelf at the supermarket like ready-meals. I can't explain why all this was fine with me because it was barely a conscious decision. On top of this I'd generally avoid other kinds of animal products such as leather, and have always considered myself an animal-lover. One day I watched a random video on Facebook of you just talking to some guy in the street. This video just popped up in my feed, I didn't know who Joey Carbstrong was, and didn't follow any vegan or vegetarian pages or anything like that, but it caught my attention. I don't remember much about it now, but it was quite a short clip and the guy must have come out with a lot of the usual arguments because by the end of the video I had very little doubt in my mind that I needed to become a vegan. Even though the transition in my diet wasn't as quick as it could have been, the transition in my head was instant. I more or less became vegetarian over night, and after watching a few more videos of yours I realised that the rosy picture painted of the dairy industry is just completely wrong, so veganism was the only answer left. So anyway, now I'm just sitting here and I finally know what all those people who leave a religion feel like. It honestly feels like I've walked away from a cult. Thanks again! p.s. Anyone who says your style puts people off, or incorrectly accuses you of being aggresive (since when was talking straight aggressive?) is comitting the tone-policing fallacy which is a type of ad hominem fallacy. It is also, as you point out regualrly, completly untrue that your style doesn't work. The only reason that video worked for me was because you were direct, straight to the point, and presented logically consistent arguments. If someone stands there and says "be vegan or not, it's your choice, I won't judge you for it, I just want to be liked", well everyone who speaks to them will simply carry on as normal because the vegan just told them it's fine!
