Love this video! So motivational. Did Spanish at school in the 1970s and started again in retirement. Am now 62 and, although I’m only on the foothills of Mount Fluency, I am making huge progress. Keep climbing!

I had Spanish in school and in University, about 5 years worth of classes, and I didn’t ever feel as though I could be conversant even though I could read and translate fairly well. I was also an avid reader in English, my native language so maybe it wasn’t surprising that I was more connected to reading in another language too. Decades go by and I don’t really use my Spanish and most of it fades away. But earlier this year (I’m 54), I started studying it again, autodidactically, and was surprised at how the vocabulary words, and the conjugations, and the sentence structures seemed to come more naturally to me than I remembered it being in my youth. I chalked it up to having read even more in English over the years and understanding even more how words and grammar work, but now that I’ve seen your video, I think it’s more than that. I think that it’s the crystallized intelligence at work, using my English reading as a scaffold to leapfrog understanding in Spanish. Some might say I’m just remembering learning from school that I didn’t know I had retained and that is certainly possible. But learning Spanish this time around doesn’t feel the same. This time, it feels like a lightning bolt, making connections in my brain. It feels good and it makes me crave my Spanish lessons. They aren’t a chore; they are a reward, which seems like an odd thing to say but true. 😊💃🏻

I have started learning Spanish after 45 but I was busy with lots of things however after 55 I took it more seriously and I improved a lot. Now Spanish is becoming my 3rd language. İf you are using language you never forget, you even keep progressing.🎉

Hi i am an Indian. I have started learning Spanish at the age of 43 to create new synapses in my brain. And I chose Spanish because I started learning Salsa and Bachata after turning 40 to keep myself physically active just like I started learning new language for my brain health. And I started making KZbin tutorials ( spanish) for people like me who wants to learn languages to save their brain. PS In my certificate level exam (Spanish) I was second topper in college and currently doing diploma(next level)in Spanish. All other students were in their early 20es.

Thanks for this video. I'm 65 and have been learning Spanish through a tutor for 4 years. Although I moved to a Spanish-speaking country I don't have much daily interaction with Spanish speakers, so my learning has been slow. Y olvido de mucho. Before I retired I constantly had to learn new complicated things like advanced math and computer modeling, but for me learning Spanish has been different, difficult and humbling. However I am committed and will keep learning!

It’s not about learning languages. It’s about learning. That’s what shields you from aging in part. Then eat healthy, exercise, maintain positive attitude, help others. Stay away from medications as much as possible. I’m 44, CEO, 3 kids, A2 in Spanish in 7 months and c2 in 3 other languages since young adulthood. That’s my recipe.

Learn your Spanish only from native born Spanish speakers, .they are Superior,, Teachers. You will only get a gringo accent. If you learn from English first language speakers like this guy here. He is not good. He should be teaching english.

Hola Iron Mike, it's important to keep in mind that students will develop a gringo accent even if they only ever listen to Spanish natives. In fact, this is very normal and common. The key is learning how to develop a more authentic Spanish accent and it starts with understanding how the sounds of your first language sounds will influence the sounds of your second language. If you watch my video on how to not sound like a gringo, I talk about some of these important techniques.
