I kinda thought the linked hands meant when people commit suicide together so they lock hands in hopes they end together or try to kill each other around the same time to end up seeing each other again or just tired of living. However, I guess suicide can sometimes lead to a chain linking to someone or something

The way I've always seen the song is less that kikuo is condoning/encouraging suicide, and more that kikuo is encouraging us to reflect on our own state of mind. It's probably a vent song written from his own dark place, and people listening can acknowledge the reasons why they might want to die and see through the creepy song that it's a twisted train of thought. There's a lot of media that covers dark topics and leaves you feeling worse out the other end purely because of the heaviness and regardless of quality, but I've always found kikuo's work cathartic rather than something to add to the weight. That's just my experience though
@abigailhoeniges67772 жыл бұрын
I agree, it seems like the song itself is a kind of representation of the darkest parts of your mind that contain very little rationality and are instead filled with raw and unspoken emotion

Exactly. Art is a form of expression. People who believe this song is encouraging suicide are... being really silly. *Of course* it's not encouraging suicide 🤦♀️ "If you write about this thing, you are this thing, encouraging this thing, glorifying it." Romanticization and encouragement is definitely an existing thing in media but I doubt that was the goal of this song. It's probably the personification of the creator's own thoughts and urges.

A quote that I've heard about Kikuo's music is that "Art should disturb the comfortable, and comfort the disturbed." Honestly Kikuo is my favourite artist because he's not necessarily trying to be edgy. His music is less meant to romanticize these topics, and more meant to represent the different ways that people cope through mental illness. My interpretation of Corpse Dance is that these are the intrusive thoughts of those who are suicidal. I find that so many people take his music at face value, which is the opposite of his goal. What I love about Kikuo's songs is that they make you think, and you can feel the message of the song even without understand japanese. :>

This is exactly how I feel about it. The “one step, one step” line especially brings to mind some of my own dark moments. It won’t even be a bad time for me, but my brain will suddenly remind me that I could just… go out the window, land on the stone patio, and not worry about the consequences. It felt more like someone who also feels like this commiserating about it than encouraging the end result.

My interpretation of the song is not that it encourages suicide, but it's but it's suicidal thoughts put to music. Especially the parts about "when keeping alive is too hard" and how being dead is "fun and joyful". And the joyful music could also be a part of it, other than Kikuo being Kikuo, as "Sudden cheerfulness after a bout of depression" is a warning sign that someone with suicidal thoughts might end their life. It's catchy and many people might only hear the cheerfulness, not realizing the worrying words, just like in real life. Love your videos !

As someone who's struggling with suicidal thoughts and self-harm i feel like this song is not really encouraging suicide it's more likely trying to put it into a creepy setting (for obvious reasons suicide is terrible even suicidal people know that) but i think a lot of suicidal people think it's an inviting thing.. when something is too hard and you know you can just make it stop it kind of feels like a relief. On the other hand the song as well as the animation is pointing out that running away from your problems by ending your own life doesn't help. The figures dancing around in circles? It means that if you commit it's forever. You can't go back from a decision like that. The Song itself being sung by Miku (obviously because it's Kikuo) is also very interesting tho, her voice is very calm even energetic and generally I'd consider Miku's voice to be pretty friendly which is even through the creepy lyrics evident, her voice is inviting singing about the afterlife that it's fun that they dance together and etc but that's exactly what i mentioned earlier that suicide is often people's last resort after they feel like they can't escape and the only way to stop the stress the pain the suffering whatever is to.. well...to end it. I love Corpse Dance with my whole heart it's gotten me through some hard times
@user-vt7ce1oq1e2 жыл бұрын
I noticed how this particular translation shooshiMooshi reacted to portrayed it more like a nice and good thing to do, successfully lifting your mood about it, making you feel like it's the right thing to do, making you find it normal, and actually encouraging you to do it with nice words. The original video's captions though, even with the same meaning but just phrased differently, make it seem as if not nice people are inviting you to die, to go enjoy the afterlife full of eternal joy, but demons trying to convince you to join them so they don't have to ""feel lonely". While a depressed person would take both as a green light, the original makes you feel somehow guiltier and even scared about it and would actually make some people reconsider. Just a reminder that you shouldn't do it!!
@hat7475 Жыл бұрын
thats really inchresting actually! the original phrasing does pull on the guilt strings. Especially if you are from a religious background (as i am) i just wish the phrasing's weren't changed or atleast should've been somewhat publicly noted before, so people wouldn't get s different idea or impression. Not to say that the other one is better 😶

(Lil messy rant here/ brain vomit (?):) I've been suicidal since I was around ten until 6-9 months ago (I'm currently 15) In my case, most of what let me to this state was completely internal, I wasn't encouraged to do this or abused, which makes me quite a lucky one compared to many others. Did I ever get to make plans on self death? Yes. Did I ever get to write notes, detail the plan(s) and buy necessary props? Yes. Did I ever get to attempt? Yesn't. Did I ever want to actually do it? I, frankly, don't quite know. My decisions were never clearly (greatly) influenced by anyone as far as I'm concerned, so it indeed is hard for me to believe that someone would be pushed over the edge just because of this song. Does this mean that that can't happen? No. While no mentally healthy person would really ever consider going that far because of a song and certaintly even many of the already close to the edge people out there wouldn't either, that doesn't mean that there can't be exceptions. Let's be careful. Also, to anyone that is "close to the edge"... It's not worth it. Not one bit. Every time my plans would fail, like someone arriving home and having to hide everything, all I could think about after my head cooled down was "What did I just do?". That made me realize that I would have most likely regretted it and that I definitely wasn't capable of decent reasoning when I was a bout to do it. Then again, this realization didn't last long. I tried again and again, and then I was way too exhausted to try again. It's quite a terrifying thing to do, to try to take one's own life. I'm a big coward so I just decided to wait my life out. I started feeling like I was eventually going to die, and not from old age, not from an illness. I didn't quite know why but that just was what I felt. It makes no sense but that's the truth. People can't really reason well when in that kind of situation. You're probably thinking that then all you have to do is to do it well in one attempt and bye bye, right? Well, no. Like I said, people don't really reason well in that kind of situation, and you'll most likely regret it. You'll regret it because you don't want to die. You just want a different life. That's the truth. You maybe are too scared of wathever future you think awaits you, too scared of your present or too haunted by your past. You don't want to die, you just want to have lived a different life. If you're in an abusive relationship, then fuck them. If you think you're useless, then learn a skill. Any skill. Maybe start by picking up a shirt from the floor and work your way up day by day, until you learn something new. If you think that life is pointless, then make up a meaning for yours. If you think that by leaving a toxic relationship you're being selfish, a coward or useless, then be it if it'll get you the fuck outta there. But it's really easy for me to type this and tell you. You're thinking that it's not that simple, and you're right. Also, this comment will be pointless unless you don't let it be. No one will be able to help you unless you let them. No one can help you if you don't help yourself first. It's not that they don't want to, they just can't unless you do so first. I can't really help you very far, but still don't do it. If you're really too tired, in pain or terrifyed to try and change your situation, just try to wait it out. Maybe things can get better eventually. Maybe something unexpected will happen, but you'll never know if you kill yourself, so don't do it. At least wait. Wait until you get the strength to change things, or until they get better on their own. But just wait. Don't do it. Seriously, don't. If it's not for you, then wether you realize it or not, you doing that will get someone in lots of pain, so if it's not for you at least do it for them. But don't hurt yourself, just don't.

But he has a great catalog of songs, that I think they would be worth a watch.
@BabiOni11 ай бұрын
As someone who’s had thoughts like these in the past I believe the point of the song being so catchy and encouraging is to mimic what it feels like to think about ending it in times you have those feelings. It’s like in the idea of being free from your pain it’s almost a celebration worthy event (which of course it isn’t) but your brain lies to you and tries to convince you that you’ll feel so good, dancing with the other corpses so to speak rather than dealing with the pain of living. It honestly shows how talented kikuo is. I remember loving this song back then, not fully understanding the meaning but now that I don’t have those thoughts anymore it makes so much sense why I liked it so much. I felt understood in a way. He truly is a genius.
@salo89342 жыл бұрын
idk but the least thing kikuos songs are is romanticized. They make you feel exactly what they are supposed to - discomfort. I think they are more about going through some kind of tough experience, often from a pov of a child which makes you even more uncomfortable, again, as it is supposed to

When you see exactly what you are going to do, what you're going to be experiencing in morbid detail, it scares you. There was one time where I was feeling so bad that I wrote everything that I was feeling and thinking, and drawing my hallucinations, and when I went back to them when I was back from the ward, it was disturbing and now whenever I feel that bad, I look at those papers and it makes me not want to go through with it. And notice at the end there was no "cha cha ooh!" Probably meaning that the people who were commiting suicide regretted it at their last moments.

The lyrics, the violin and the feelings that each person who holds hands presents is simply perfection, that's why I love the song or is it that I'm just a masochist
@hat7475 Жыл бұрын
nah, the piano and the violin with the whole theme of a march??? ofc it was going to be catchy, from a musical sense, its a really good combination

I'm not quite sure if you've heard this one before, but it's a really sad song that doesn't get recognized enough as it should. It's called "Goodbye" by VocaCircus. I believe they are pretty big in the Vocaloid fandom as well.

I may or may not be a week late but glad that Kikuo continues to get the credit he deserves. My man's perfect at making the best kind of earworms.

Once again asking for a reaction to an Otetsu song! Carnival, Oppression Confusion Girl, Rubick’s Cube, Tightrope Walking, Candy and Chains, Noraneko, there’s plenty of disturbing/depressing options!

Bro I love otetsu. I just haven’t seen the lyrics for a lot of his songs. I’m just so happy tho that he was mentioned tho because in vocaloid fan spaces he never seems to get any love

@@peanutbutterex Saaaaaaaame, nobody talks about him outside of the three or so songs he has in Project Diva, which is a CRIME, considering that, in my humble opinion, only one of them is among his better works. Nobody talks about his better songs and it’s a shame.

I highly recommend Color & Electricity by Mushi-P, it’s a weird song but also super catchy And it gets dark real fast- Edit: I also just found this song called the “this is the happiness and peace of mind committee”, very happy song I definitely recommend it.

Good to hear you took a break and are feeling better! Kikuo is wonderful and I love their stuff so much. If you're looking for more upbeat vocaloid songs that makes you want to JAM, it'd be really cool to see you react to Ready Steady by Giga.

I think the main message of corpse dance is kikuo venting to us on how HE wanted to die because (i think) someone telling him to unalive himself. Knowing kikuo, he made a lot of heavy subject songs such as abuse, sexual abuse, unhealthy obsession and suicide. How do I know this? I listened to his songs fully aware of the meaning when i was 8. he was the first person who i actually related to a lot. (and still do) because of the heavy topics. and, please do not hate on me for this, it is just a theory and i did not research the actual meaning behind this because i do not have enough time to. but if you can pleas correct me if my theory is wrong (and possibly give me the actual meaning behind this song).
