Erik Lee it’s rated for 8200 lbs actually. The tongue weight limit is a uk thing and is less detrimental than that limit would imply. I towed a 6k lb airstream with my LR3 with way above the tongue limit although somewhat mitigated with a weight distribution hitch w/ no issues. On this trip I also had several hundred pounds of housing stuff in the cabin as I’m moving to Atlanta from Seattle. I have had 4 Land Rovers And this is by far the best . No contest . And no break downs. Minor infotainment issues. I give them pure hell and they take very good care of me. Just my opinion but I prefer the combination of on road and off road performance. I drive many miles to get to my destinations and the comfort of the Defender is just amazing. Then I get to my off road destination and it changes personally completely. If I was primarily an off roader I’d get the Jeep as it is much more customizable . BUT ... the cost of entry is high, there is no real lease option, and apparently the services run over $1000. That’s a stiff number. Additionally, reliability is a huge concern for me.I’ve watched many videos, talked to owners and folks in the know. It has scared me off LR. The Jeep on the other hand has me interested. This is not aimed at the Defender, rather a lot of new "technology based" off road vehicles. The reason I have owned a Wrangler for so many years and will continue to own one is because of their old school systems. I go off road for the fun to it, not to have a technology based system help me creep over an obstacle.
@dadventuretv25383 жыл бұрын
I get your point. And Im not being a douche here but asking because I love talking about this stuff. So in a Rubi you manually put it into four wheel drive, either high or low. And that helps you get over stuff. Then you manually lock the rear or front diff and that helps you get over stuff. In my LR4 I have a locking center diff, low range and a locking rear diff. Difference is the center diff locks electronically and automatically instead of manually, and rear diff locks electronically and automatically instead of manually and instead of a locking front diff it has brake control. Low range is still a manual select. Is pushing a button yourself instead of the veh locking the diff or putting it into four wheel drive automatically really that different? I mean we’re all using technology to get us over obstacles or through muck? Anyway, main thing is we’re all out in the mud having fun, no matter how we do it. See you on the trails. 🤙

Much better suspension and unlike the defender the wrangler actually has suspension travel. Difference us if the electronics fail, and they will, at the worst time, that defender won't do squat offroad. The wrangler on the other hand, would be just fine, especially a Rubicon with the swaybar disconnect and lockers. LR has done a great job making it capable offroad but it took tons of electronics to do it because lets face it, in offroad height it has virtually zero suspension travel. Bounces like a car resting on its bump stops and lifts wheels on the smallest obstacles. It took alot of electronics and programming to compensate for the suspension design. Im a Land Rover guy but im disappointed thay the defender is such a departure from the original. If they'd have at least given it a solid rear axle then it could have been a decent replacement. As good as it is, its not a real replacement for the original. Much like the current Cherokee could never be a replacement for the XJ.

I will use it for long road trips and some medium off roading to get to nice camping spots. Something I could never do in a wrangler. When I see someone ina wrangler that I know is a long way from home and must have driven many hours on the higway, all I can think of is the stamina of that driver. I own an LR4 modified. Which is basically what the new Defender is. Compare spec sheets and you’ll see what I mean. I have driven many Wranglers, both on and offroad. The Defender will be a better allrounder. Towing, hauling, carrying, comfort snd convenience will all be better than a Wrangler. My LR4 goes anywhere Offroad I would care to take my daily, which is to say all the same places my Jeep buddies go, because their Jeeps are also their dailies. None of us are looking to do massive damage to our rigs. Sometimes it outperforms some of the Wranglers- usually the Sports in low traction situations. But the Wrangler Rubicon is better at the more hardcore offroading and has articulation that can’t be touched by any other vehicle currently on the market and is definitely easier to mod. And they have improved the on road day to say stuff over the years,, so it is definitely usable as a daily, just not as refined as a LR. So it just depends on what you want to do with your rig and where you want the emphasis to be. My LR4 listed at $65K in 2016. I spec a Defender with the rear locker and towing package and all the good offroad stuff but nothing that O didn’t need (like stickers or special wheels) and it came in at $70K on the nose. If you get the 4 cylinder it will come in about $67K. so not too bad for 5 years later.

Johnson Rods has a 1.5 in suspension lift kit for the Defender. i think I would couple the J Austin Fab body lift with the 1.5 in Johnson Rods. Would give a total of 3 extra inches ground clearance. Would be rolling at offroad height all the time. This is basically the height I drive my LR4 and love it- don’t have to use the air sus offroad as much as it clears most things at that height.

I'm all in this Wrangler. I'll never be able to afford one, but I actually do think it's kind of a good value. Considering this is a loaded up Rubicon, which would probably be 50-55K for even the base V6, considering this has a Hemi swap and some other things make it actually seem like a good value. And they probably won't sell a ton of these, so resale value is going to be ridiculously good as well. Also, I think the price is basically a non-issue. Yeah, I'm sure there's some people that are going to stretch themselves out to make a monthly payment on this, but I would think that most people looking to buy something like this are pretty well-off and will purchase this just as a toy, or as some sort of tax write-off for their business or KZbin channel.
@josiaevans3 жыл бұрын
@Tommy , when you disconnected the sway bars on the wrangler I think you also allowed the chassis to sit lower to the obstacle as an unintended result. If you kept them connected, you would have seen the non-grounded tires lift up sooner, but the chassis would have cleared the obstacle too 🤔 That being said... am I the only one who thinks it's kind of awesome to be able to disconnect sway bars with a button so you don't have to get out on a snowy day and deal with tools etc just to clear an obstacle?

The Rangler needs to be lifted to be more capable, because if it gets high center it will be stuck, the Defender is more capable as is

Have watched u guys for years. Continued little digs on LR is beneath u. Feels like u do it for more clicks. I get the defender story but it’s a little disingenuous to keep saying you’re on your third defender when the dealership, a human, wrecked the second one. Let it go and move forward. It’s tiring. And you guys have a really good channel. You don’t need that.

I only see the guys being honest at TFL, yes their Defenders werent perfect but they persisted with the brand and everyone told them exactly what would happen and it did. All new model vehicles have issues and normaly its sorted with the 2nd gen derivatives so I hope LR up their game because they rely heavily on tech to compete in the market. Look at how well the guys reviewed their second hand buys and did a lot of content on their Discos they bought, I dont see any biased people here. Im just happy they have a popular channel and their car was swapped by LR, not sure how the normal customer would be treated?

@@henkstols9326 - thank you for your comment. I agree with many of your points. Very well stated. You. That was the deal breaker for me too. Need to tow 6000 lb boat from time to time. The Ineos Grenadier is supposed to have a similar tow rating to the Defender so if looking for something more old school but with high tow rating may want to wait to see about it. I know I am. Yep it is, it does all of that with a center Diff lock, yet the 392 sure got front, center & the rear. Wheel articulation here is simply is to gain traction, yet the Defender eliminates that due to it's traction control system which simply proves a better program in this, but like always TFL, absolute zero regard.

Interesting as always. I bet we don’t get the V8 in the UK. Different perspective, the Wrangler Rubicon is £51,985 to £59,120 ($83,359) here (127 PS engine). The ‘normal’ Defender 110 D250 SE (250 PS) is £58,335 ($ 82.250), (starting at £49,665). Very few dry Rocky off roading, plenty of mud and rain! Fuel £5.70 Gallon ($8.00). Smaller roads and very small parking spaces. Both are classed as unreliable here. Jeep has one of the lowest safety scores. Most of us spend more time on road than off. Which one would you have? Roll on Grenadier!

Can't say I've ever actually heard anybody question whether the new Defender is an off-roader. Whether or not it's a reliable, rugged, durable off-roader, on the other hand, IS a question that has merit.

@@briankenny6822 Exactly. Let's face it, any manufacturer that is willing to sink millions into developing an off-roader IS going to end up with something that can drive off-road. I really love the Jeep's and especially the wrangler! I really love to see what you guys are doing and I really love you’re reviews ;) I've sold Ram Trucks in my Country (Austria) and you've always showed me to look at the cars/trucks and also, you've told me how to think about American vehicles. Some engines and transmissions are told to be reliable here but aren't in the US, so I'm about to find out why. Here, the Wrangler is equipped with the 2.8 CRD engine and the Gladiator with the 3.0 CRD as standard (90.000 euro). so, there must be some difference between our and your usage of the vehicle :) I'm not talking about tax or so :) love your videos :)

At that price point, I don’t see how you don’t get the Defender. The Wrangler simply doesn’t make for anywhere near as good or comfortable daily driver. Less space, fewer amenities, less towing capacity by a lot, less cargo space, rougher ride. If it’s only a toy, the Wrangler has a case, but at over $70k, I’m going for the extremely capable off road, plus high end comfortable Defender.

It's like when you are talking about "now the Defender has a 3rd row of seats", as though this is a new thing. Older 110's could seat 12 people in them! Being able to only seat 7 in the new one is a huge step backwards really, not something new & revolutionary.
