On the JCB, not sure what the first 5 stands for, the 35 meant 3.5 ton weight limit and the 140 means 14 metre reach. It's construction spec. Most agri don't go higher than 7metre reach as far as I'm aware, though I could be wrong
@retrorevolution6534
@retrorevolution6534 Жыл бұрын
Aye I think you're right there, I thought the 140 was maybe horsepower but apparantly it's 108hp (had to google out of curiosity tbh!). I've used a few telehandlers over the years myself, mainly loadalls but manitous and various different loaders on farms and I also worked for a skip hire company as a machine driver. They had a 535 on hire once for a week or so and I'm sure it was a 140 as it had the legs on the front, tripple extending boom with the ram on the top and massive back end and tbh, compared to the CAT TH62s that we used at the time it was as numb as!! Visibility was terrible and it was a gutless thing for shifting material about (soil and rubble mainly), Don't get me wrong though, it was just not the right machine for the job, god knows why they even hired it in the first place, it should have been pottering about on a building site lifting materials up to the second or third floor of a new build which is what they're made for and bloody good at too. A JCB 531 70 on the other hand, Which I spent a lot of time on, lovely machine, would give the old CATs a run for their money (though I would probably rather have a TH62 in all honesty) just loads more visability, way more nimble and manouverable and enough power to do the job. It would be way more suited to farm work for someone like Adrian compared to a 535. Another thing to add, the 531 I used to drive was a two lever instead of a joystick, never used to like them, hated it at first but once I got the hang of it, loved it, I probably like using them more than the loadalls with a joystick now! I would be interested to hear other people's opinions on that! The 5? I think is Telehandler/ type of machine, 4 are loading shovels I guess, 436, 435, 414 etc. Not sure about the rest.
@liammcelhone5572
@liammcelhone5572 Жыл бұрын
@retrorevolution6534 drove a 531-70 and 526S at my last job. Good machines but wouldn't recommend to anyone. Not that there was anything wrong with them but these days if a shovel isn't hydrostatic, long term your just asking for transmission trouble. We had to strip the whole machine down and put a new transmission into the 531-70 at the last spot and she only had 5.5/6k hours on it. New spot im at has a 741 Class scorpion. Hydrostatic transmission takes a bit of getting used to but when you are they are just as easy worked. The construction spec shovels never have as much horse. No need for it. The 531-70 at my last spot was an agri super at 145 hp. Not sure what the 741 im working with now is but id say around the same. Easiest way to tell the difference between construction and agri spec is that agri never have more than 1 boom

Hi Adrian! Could you explain what a slurry ban is? I understand what slurry is for… by why would there be a ban on it at times? I use a form of slurry on quite a bit smaller scale on my lawn. (Rabbit turds steeped in 40 gallons of water like a tea). Let is steep for a week or so in an old pillow case, and you have a potent “Bunny Brew” to fertilize your lawn with. I spread it with the garbage barrel sitting in my tractor cart with a “T” pipe drilled with holes. I’ve never heard of a slurry ban on farms in the U.S.A., but I could be wrong. Love your channel!!! Thank you, and Stay Safe!!!

I watch several farmers, Pemberton and Funky Farmer, and they all speak of the slurry ban after a certain date. Why is that? What is the purpose of only permitting slurry spreading at certain times?
@MuddyPigg
@MuddyPigg Жыл бұрын
I think it's to protect the water supply from contamination from the slurry. Farmers have to be careful about how much they spread and where. Not within 10m of waterways or 50m for wells. Maybe October is traditionally a wet time in Ireland and it will give the ground time to soak it up before the rain hits?
@chucklesx

The main reason is to not spread nitrogen during the winter months when the plants are not growing so it doesn't get used and can leach in waterways
