Just bought a second hand Preston 11 mar margin pole which doesn’t have the side hole for the elastic, however this video is fantastic for people like me who have not done any pole fishing and now have a great appreciation of where to start and how to work the kit. Thank you.

Same. Was given an old 12.5 Maver Strong Arm with telescopic top kit. Have to use a pulla plug to bring elastic in on that.

Great video, something we don’t have down under in Aus is pole fishing like in the UK. Carp caught here are a menace to the local fish and water ways so they are caught and killed (what a loss!). Awesome video well explained for anyone using a pole for the first time, would be good to see a close up of the figure of 8 knot and how the rig attaches to the elastic. The only bit of the video we did not see close up.

Wish you had explained how long line needs to be from tip to float. If fishing margins where it’s only going to be a couple of feet deep is it easier to shorten line to required length before plumbing up? I usually have it about a foot.

Great video! It’s been about 15 years since I last went pole fishing! Nice to see how it’s progresses with the side slot for elastic, makes much better sense than a difficult to retrieve bung! Also the feeding cup seems new too as I always used a catapult but it was always hit or miss. Will defiantly be getting back into it now. Thanks!

It might be a bit confusing for a beginner that Adam holds his pole left handed but his top kit right handed! Most people just use one side or the other. It is nice to see a beginner level video where the "coach" isn't sitting on £250 to £600 worth of seat box!

This is much appreciated! As a Canadian who purchased a Browning Pit Bill kit last year with a few float rigs and plunnet, I am anxiously awaiting a chance to try pole fishing at a local pond before and after work. The carp and goldfish are just starting to get active. Thinking of getting a some more gear if it works out or shows promise.

A good video for me as I've just started pole fishing. Only question is what length of line should be between dacron connector and float
@ifishmatrix2 жыл бұрын
There's no hard and fast rules for this! It needs to be short enough so that you don't miss bites, but long enough that your float doesn't move if the wind blows your pole tip around. 12-18inches is a good starting point.

Love this video. Pure fishing without professional types of equipment and unnecessary things. Could I ask please how long was the pole on the film? Did you use a pole roller?
@ifishmatrix3 жыл бұрын
We used the 6m Torque Pole. No pole roller, just a bag behind to keep the pole off the ground. We would advise using a pole roller if using a pole longer than this though.

I've baught a diawa pole 4 top kits, purely for commercial fisheries, I'm 58 now, I fished commercials back in the mid 90s, back then you'd cut you're pole back till you could fur a 20 elastic 🤣 now I had a look online for elastic and!! Well don't times change, I have no idea what elastic I need, I simply thought two medium tops two heavy tops, given this what elastic would you buy?
@GrahamWalters2 жыл бұрын
Hope you read this, Elastics have moved on, you can still get the solid types, but they are really when compared with the new hollow silicones. You can use much thinner silicone than old elastics, it also has a lot more stretch, hence the puller system. It's also possible to adapt your old top 3's /2's, but it's a tricky job, a decent tackle shop will do it for you. Good luck ! and tight lines.

Can I just add a quick point, if you buy ready made rigs, and if you follow the likes of top anglers like Mr may and Mr heughs, and dot you're float down, in a nut shell for pleasure fishing its not necessary make sure you can see you're float without straining you're brain, it's called pleasure fishing for a reason 🤣 another tip, these ready made rigs are so sensitive and finely balanced, half way through you're day the float might start to sink to the very tip or submerge completely, don't worry, have some vasline and simply dip the tip of the float into it, this will keep it visible, that's how sensitive these rigs are.

Be aware this video assumes the top section has already been cut down to the right diameter for the given elastic, and has had stonfo fitted in the end, cutting up to a foot off your brand new pole is not for the faint hearted, a decent tackle shop will do this for you, don't be shy ask them to show you how to do it.

You don't need tons of gear for any fishing, match anglers especially the top guys, where there is massive money nowadays, they want every eventuality covering before the all in, hence the amount of gear they accumulate and set up on the bank, for a day's pleasure fishing, what you see on this vid is easily enough, somthing to sit on and a means of putting a bait in the water 😉
