I quote Jake and Amir to this day. The best episodes are the ones where the roles would reverse and Amir would be the voice of reason and Jake would be ridiculous. Like the chin strap beard or the piercings episode. Also the one where they try to get into a club (“Game, do-do-do you have it?”) And of course where Amir goes to TGI Fugly’s. A "thistle" is the name for a type of sailing boat. The term "Whistling Dixie" is used as basically saying they're caught up in daydreams/fantasy. The term itself refers to old Confederate soldiers still whistling the songs of the confederacy long after the civil war had ended. It's a pun that combines the two. The term "Dixie" is also a bit antiquated but that alone isn't the problem it's the flag that's actually the problematic bit.

I was also curious about that, so I did some googling! Here's what I learned: "Dixie" and "Dixieland" are old slang terms that originally referred to the Confederacy and the people who lived there. Dixie is also the name of a song that was popular among Confederate soldiers. Nowadays it still has an association with the deep south, and it's usually used to evoke "southern pride". "Thistling Dixie" is not really a common phrase. It's probably a reference to "whistling dixie", an expression that means being overly optimistic/fantasizing about something that won't happen. It comes from the song I mentioned above, and the vain hope that the Confederacy would win the war.
