2bi) Here is a mathematical way: 10.8 = ((10 x Y) + (11 x (100-y))) / 100. Solve for Y, but make sure you get all the brackets correctly.

You're right that the calculation can be done mathematically. But the question asked us to deduce rather than calculate, So we opt for mental shortcuts. Your approach is valid too, But when the question asks for mathematical calculation or when there are marks on the steps.
