Such poignant rendition! Apparently Iggy still ached for the girl after all those years.

Considering the "China Girl" being discussed in the song is a cocktail of heroin and cocaine, I'd say he is aching for it in 1986. But by the looks of things, it seems like She's on stage with him.

They met in the 70's, at the Michel Magne's Hérouville castle, during the recording of The Idiot album, realized with David Bowie.

This is pretty close to the original version. It's more raw and really didn't get the same critical acclaim it deserves as the Bowie version 6 years later. Personally i think its better.

She was a French Vietnamese model engaged to a French singer songwriter. Iggy really fell for her. But I bet that he didn't seem to be a reliable enough sort of guy to her...

Bowie's iconic version of "China Girl" was only possible because of Nile Rodgers.
@mikefiftynine Жыл бұрын
Funny, I think Iggy's is the iconic one, and Bowie's pales compared. Oh well.
@mts7274 Жыл бұрын
@@mikefiftynine Wow... Iggy's version was an amateurish mess with a sound that can only be described as 'garage quality'. Bowie's version is a masterpiece with his solid spooky vocals, a bass and drum line almost everybody recognizes immediately, and just incredible guitar work from Stevie Ray Vaughn.
@secretsfullofsaucers8 ай бұрын
@@mts7274 Funny you say that because Bowie composed the music, contributing piano, synthesizer, alto saxophone, rhythm guitar, toy piano, and backing vocals to the version released by Iggy. Bowie only released the other version so Iggy could get some much needed cash. Iggy's is definitely the more heartfelt and musically interesting, while I like the other version, is a bit radio friendly/sanitised and lacks the feeling of the original.
@mts72748 ай бұрын
@@secretsfullofsaucers Iggy's version of the song is absolute trash, and sounds like a college band demo tape. You know was trash? Try listening to the demos Van Halen recorded of all their songs before Ted Templeman straightened that band out.
