When we found $280 flights to Helsinki, Finland from Dallas, we decided we’d jump on the deal and make it an incredible Christmas journey over the Thanksgiving weekend. Our holiday adventure goes from the Arctic circle and Santa Claus’ village in Santa’s hometown of Rovaniemi, Finland to Christmas parades and markets in the Finnish capital of Helsinki. From there, we took a Megastar ferry to Tallinn, Estonia to explore old towne and experience their beautiful Christmas markets. Our first stop is Rovaniemi, Finland to visit Santa’s Christmas Village.

it is kind of sad that tourists only visit Rovaniemi. This place is far from the right Lapland. I myself live in southern Finland and make trips to Lapland twice a year. i can wander in the wilderness for 15 days without meeting any people. Thank you for never falling under Russian rule. Good to see Santa live and kicking, despite the unusual times :) It's rare to see the Santa's Village so empty this close to Christmas, normally it would be full of British kids and other visitors, Rovaniemi is known for the Christmas charter flights bringing tourists just for a day typically, can get a bit noisy there sometimes :P

This visit did seem quiet to us. We only had to wait around 30 min to see Santa which seemed quick but since this was our first time we didn’t have anything to relate it too. Thank you for that information on Santa Clause Village and Rovaniemi! 🎄🇫🇮

Just a little info there: Santa's village yes BUT according to the legend Santa lives in remote Korvatunturi in the Eastern Lapland, not Rovaniemi but for sure Rovaniemi is a lot better place thinking of tourism ;)

@@AndrewandKait For sure that's one hell of an experience for you to visit there but I want to give the genuine facts of my beautiful country. It's also very nice that you came to visit us! OH btw a question: once you came from US, did you get Covid passes that are accepted in our restaurants etc?

No unfortunately you needed a EU residents to apply for the QR code to use at restaurants, but we had a copy of our vaccine cards and that worked to enter anywhere requesting vaccination verification.

Good to know! I'm waiting my friend to arrive right after Christmas and we're gonna go to a Nightwish concert in Tampere and Levi (2h ride North from Rovaniemi) after. We have been trying to figure out this thing awhile but all we've got is the EU covid pass should be the only valid one which is just stupid that you enter country without a problem but you wouldn't be able to visit anywhere. There's a huge hole in the system :/ It should be enough just to show a prove of your vaccines and/or earlier infection/illness.

Yes we did come across that at one restaurant we were turned away for not having the covid pass even though we had our vaccine cards but most of the time the card is enough. I’m sure everything will be fine with the vaccine cards but you might have to talk to a supervisor to get it through!

So nice to see your video and experience from the tourist point of view!😊 I, myself, work as a waitress in Santa Claus Village this season, and since mid November our restaurant has offered dinner starting at 5pm every day, so if you'd have come a bit later you would have been able to eat there! But it's true, unfortunately before that there was basically no place to eat dinner😅

Really enjoyed this video. Me and the hubby were supposed to go to Lapland in 2020 but for obvious reasons we had to cancel. But I’m really starting to think about 2022 because it’s been the dream to visit Lapland at Christmas time. You can tell it’s freezing cold, how did you prepare for the cold, packing clothing etc?

We packed a ton of heavy clothes with many layers. We debated snow pants but we are so glad we brought those with us. It was truly beautiful we highly suggest visiting when you can!

Just under 2,000 for the travel, hotels (mostly covered with credit card points) , and food. So not cheap but overall a fairly reasonable price for the trip.

Rovaniemi is not actually the lapland. U shouldmgo 200km north to reach real lapland for my opinion.

@@AndrewandKait It is but me as a downhill skier come more often winters. Like 2 to 8 weeks or so every year. Sking in alps is better but hole package is better in Lapland. U have your own cottage, fireplace, kitchen and Sauna. And a lot of space. In alps u are always between mountains. You should go Yllas, Levi, pyhatunturi or pallas. Summer Ruka or well in summer it does not matter so much.

Santa Clause Village is free 👍 Flights to Rovaniemi where around 100€ each from Helsinki. Reindeer experience was 20€ for the shortest ride. Food was about 10€ for soup. Hope that helps you in planning your trip!

So you flew halfway around the world only to do the most touristic/commercial things there are (and btw overpaying the heck out of yourselves), hardly leaving the most touristic place in the whole northern Europe (Santa Claus village). I'd understand a bit more if you had kids with you, but doing this as adults just outlines the classic American to me. How much did you actually learn about Finland during your trip? Doing what you did had little to none to do with anything other than your childhood Disney dreams, and very little with Finnish culture
