SoR2 is still a contender for one of the best beat-'em-ups of all time. Incredible graphics and sound, with combat and control that was the right combination of depth and accessibility. All SoR4 had to do (and looks like it has done) is bring that style and polish to the modern era and give the players a few new things to give the game its own identity. It looks to me like the game was successful in this. So, yeah, this looks to be living up to be the sequel we've been waiting for since 1994.

This comment gets an 11/10. Pure, unadulterated truth. Also, I love this game. Worth my money and my time. Streets of Rage 4, for me, is a 9/10. It delivered the kind of experience an older gamer like myself can really appreciate. I'm probably not in IGN's core demographic, and kids might hate this game, so I get why they gave it this score, but come on. This game is an absolute masterpiece. I can't imagine a better sequel to the original Streets of Rage trilogy.

@@SynphamyMusic You're 100% correct. The game is frustratingly bad and too easy at the same time, happens when a game isn't tested long enough. The game relies on cheap attacks, counters, armor, and limited character movement for any sense of 'difficulty.' SoR4 is many steps back from 3, and honestly should cost half of what it does.

@@XSAGA87 me too. i grew up on streets of rage. 2 was probably my favorite game as a kid. i've bought streets of rage 2 on multiple consoles even buying the trilogy collection on xbox one. this is everything i want. i want the familiar style and familiar play. like when he complained about the previous level bosses showing up in later levels...that's been there in literally every streets of rage game. why are you complaining about a staple of the series? hearing that it's just like the old games with some updates to combat was all i needed to buy this game.

For all my Sega fans and SoR fans, this one is for us and by far our favorite game this year! I broke a tear when I played this with friends I use play to SoR1, 2, and 3 back when we were kids and to play this with my own kids. They should made a new 2D Final Fight,with thecombat mechanics of Fight'N'Rage.(combo system,branching story-paths) With new updated designs for Hagger,Guy,Cody maybe some new characters and also have characters from all 3 16-bit era FF games as unlockables,1:1 fighting mode,time attack,survival mode and other cool extras.

I'm getting this, and would love to see Double Dragon get the same treatment. I think the art style is leaps and bounds better than that Battletoad remake. Can't wait to play this with my son, who's stoked and never played a Streets of Rage game, and I'll also play with my wife, who is already rolling her eyes.

If you didn't play the originals when they were relevant then you won't understand what people are looking for from this. That doesn't mean that you can't criticize the game or decide that it's not for you, just that it wasn't aimed at you (people in general, this isn't aimed at anyone except perhaps the reviewer).

In the end it doesn't matter, this is a day one purchase for me. I thought I was going to get a "this is repetitive" comment from the reviewer, which would most likely mean that person never lived through the 90's and played a beat-em-up, so at least there's that. I'm hype for this game regardless of what anyone says. Most modern gamers will never know what it was like to rent the original games from a video store and have their minds blown after playing it with their brother at home on a random Saturday. If even a fraction of that magic is there then I'm in.

SOR4 exceeded my expectations in every way possible! The soundtrack is amazing. Listening to it in the car all the time. Little replayability? I bought the game twice!!! Unlocked everything on the Switch and then I bought it for PS4 because I wanted to do it all again with the Dual Shock controller :D

My only complaint is that Cherry is the only new/updated character that can actually run in the game. Adam can dash but Floyd, Blaze and Axel can't run at all. In SOR 3, all characters could run and also "roll" up and down the screen. That definitely needs to be addressed and fixed. Other than that, it's a great game and the art and graphics are beautiful.

I can only speak for myself but I played the very first streets of rage one and two when I was just a little kid in the 90s on my sega genesis and it was really fun fast forward 20 years. As an adult I feel this game is truly a treasure. In times of uncertainty especially during this pandemic this game has once again restored that feeling that everything’s gonna be OK

It's a Beat em up game. It's supposed to have unforgiving parts in it to learn new strategies and for it to be rewarding at the end. 10/10 for this game and yes I would love to see dlc crossover between Final Fight with Cody as Mayor and other characters including new stages.

If you liked Streets of Rage 2, you're going to love this game.... Simple. The art style. The gameplay. The music, boss levels, atmosphere, items, weapons, and destructibles. There's pretty much no way out of it; it's a really great compliment to the Streets of Rage series from the MegaDrive era.

This feels like I stepped into a time machine and went back to my childhood. The feel of the game, the music, the style and the mechanics are all there and are untainted. It is such a relief that this game has been made, a video game that feels like an actual video game. It is a rare thing these days to see a game get released that makes you immediately know that you are going to play it and you already know that you are going to enjoy it. And it's just icing on the cake when that game goes above and beyond your expectations and delivers a game that truly brings back the joy and the wonder that only the best games had to offer. 10/10, I can't wait to replay this game over and over and over again!

Jchibz _ unfortunately, the characters are so true to their respective games that they tend to be at a disadvantage. What I meant was that, in Streets of Rage Remake for example, you could use versions of characters from SoR1 and they’d have a fully fleshed out move set. Blitz attacks, special attacks etc. In this game, if you were to pick SoR1 axel, you have no blitz attack and no special moves. You’re limited to calling the police car, just like in the first game

Chaos Animator yeah I get that but just the mere fact they have different move sets means it’s not the original versions of them. It’s just a skin to look like the original. You are looking past the fact they made all versions of streets of rage fit into a modern game. The moves are exactly the same but can potentially juggle now. The only reason why the remake have them all having new moves set are because they technically wouldn’t work with that battle engine in the same way. They already showed they could even upgrade the police car with Astel. People who never play the original can actually use those characters in their true form. If they play the remake and then go back to trying the original, it would be disappointing cause it’s not really the same. The fact that all mechanics are intact makes it insanely genius. You can actually play this with every streets of rage battle mechanics. For example, if you felt streets of rage 2 was the best battle system you can just use those characters here. Everything you loved about them are intact with now mechanics left out. The remake then are old skins with movesets from the originals. Yes they may be upgraded and smoother but it’s not true to the game. This upgraded the originals while keeping them sacred. I get your sentiment but the amount of characters that would take, I would rather them just bring a whole bunch of new characters if they will have movesets similar to part 4. This wasn’t a remake, they actually expanded the universe while keeping the original feel inside it. And they are also not at a disadvantage, the older characters have more defense and strength. Also they were never meant to be better, it was to preserve the history of streets of rage. Yes the remake is great but that’s not what Sega created. If we rewrite how they play then future generations may never see what the real streets of rage was.

I love this game, having just completed it using 5 characters so far. Awesome visuals, great new music tunes (Yuzo Koshiro involved in some), and very fun beat 'em up gameplay in the classic style. Can't wait to unlock all the characters. Shiva, Max and more. 5/5
