Very interesting the final Florio's business analysis. However, sad to see that the empire collapsed and there was no possibility to develop it in a better way. Marsala Florio is still existing and tuna fish is in general an important business in the food industry.

Thank you for your comment. Definitely the end of the business was not final as you outlined correctly. Sometimes external circumstances can mark the end of great stories. In our pandemic age, we might understand this well, as many businesses were forced to close or downsize due to the events. Grazie and I'm glad you liked the episode

I thought that was really informative and insightful. The idea that entrepreneurship is about more than creating wealth, but also about creating a story, which can outlast the original business. Is this a particularly Italian approach to business? I think it is.

Thank you very much for your comment and I am glad you enjoyed the episode. Definitely there is an Italian (or rather humanistic) element in this approach to business. If you think about it the word busy-ness expresses not just a trade but also an individual condition of being busy. To create value is to create wealth but also to create meaning. So there you go, business & humanities, which is also the core of the Italian Innovators project. Buon anno!

@@ItalianInnovators Thanks for your reply. But I still wonder. How much is this a uniquely Italian phenomenon do you think? It seems a contrast to a more Anglo Saxon approach to the rationale for business.

@@stephennorris This model is more prominent in Italy because of the relevance of heritage and humanistic tradition in the education system (vis-a-vis the STEM approach in the US). The models are not opposed to each other, but the American focus is more on the pioneering/charting a new frontier whereas the Italian one is about dig deep (De Cecco exemplifies the model of innovation as return to the origin). Hope this helps
